When i rocked a goatee i had a very very close call with my lathe one night. Started tucking my earmuff band under my chin after that. Good tip. Maybe I should start wearing pants around the shop. Wouldn't be fun getting my pubes ripped out by my spinny tools. 2 4 Quote
sheepers Posted April 22 Author Posted April 22 Yea, truth be told its not actually mine. But the engine and gearbox that are currently in it do belong to me. 6 Quote
sheepers Posted April 24 Author Posted April 24 @xsspeed wrote in the wrong thread because hes a noob and cant read the rules, "did you use the same brand sealer or a different one?" i didn't use the same brand of bullshit doesn't work sealer, that would be asking for trouble. i used another one that i don't know the name of but it was made in Greece. 1 Quote

I mean, I get why it’s the rules and keeps the thread “pure”, but it’s weird’ cause it’s only on OS and only in one area….. and I’ve not got deletion rights so I can’t fix it when I forget/get carried away and screw up…. Grizzle over. I’ve always liked these 4WD Datsuns (even settle for some of the 2WD ones). ‘Cause they look nice and make great noises….. Tend to be ridiculous money and/or fall-apart rust here. Quote
HumberSS Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Think I recall someone posting about this in the paint thread, but you are having good success with epoxy inside panels /seams instead of copper weld through? And just exposing the steel at the plug weld? Quote
sheepers Posted May 14 Author Posted May 14 yea that's pretty much it. the epoxy burns back a small amount but so do the copper primers. tbh it was a pain in the arse doing this with the TIG but the MIG doesn't seem to give a fuck and just blazes through any paint that you haven't removed. i will, in my experimenting with MIG welding, try the weld thru primers again but the epoxy is a far superior paint and sticks like shit to a blanket. i wouldn't recommend huffing the fumes it gives off but you do you. 4 Quote

HumberSS Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Nice. Yeah mig is great for burning through rust and old paint remnants without too much fuss. Good to know re epoxy. 1 Quote
Tiger Tamer Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I have found with mig welding you need to up your wire speed quite a bit when overhead welding. If you have it at 8.5 and getting a shower of molten metal then go to 9.5-10. You always seem to get some but it should help. Never used a tig myself. 1 Quote
sheepers Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 Wire speed?? Fuck mate I'm still struggling to turn the thing on. 4 Quote

rusty360 Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Man you did well to tig weld everything. It would have certainly looked the part though! Quote

Most upsetting. Then years later you get a savage bollocking from the ENT consultant when you explain the true origins of the small (4mm) “ball bearing” he’s just found in your earwax…..😬 Fun times! 5 Quote
