Popular Post sheepers Posted September 10, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 10, 2024 I built a small table. Big woop. What I did think was interesting is this jig i bought about a million years ago. It cost a lot and I don't use it often but it makes life fucking easy when welding a corner. It takes no measurements to get things square and true. You just weld shit together. In the picture you can see the special combination of members about to be welded together. The name for this special combination is "that's the material I had on hand" 14 Quote

I got some last year. From an OS recommendation, possibly from you. Should have got a larger size. Found the drawstrings didn't like to stay tied and some fell off. 1 Quote

Popular Post cubastreet Posted September 19, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 19, 2024 I picked it up in great condition for a great price. It was dusty as fuck so I guess the 88 year old original owner hadn't used it for a while. A bit of a clean and she's looking quite nice. This is the facelift version of the 201. The original version was cast iron but post war they made this lighter version out of melted down spitfires. It went from about 15 to 12kg without base or motor, whereas the modern singer Heavy Duty 4452 model weighs 6.4kg all up. It's known for being a battleship but I've only owned industrial sewing machines before so it still feels pretty dinky to me. The machine itself is the smoothest and quietest I've ever owned, but the motor was noisy, hence the strip down. The commutator cleaned up nice and the bushings got a little oil bath. everythjng seemed to be a nice fit so I was starting to wonder why it was noisy when I saw the wire to one of the brushes had a dry solder joint. I soldered that up and slapped it back together and now it's running nice and quiet. The only trouble I had was that someone had been in before me and damaged one of the threads on a screw. They fixed it by loctiting it in, so when I tried to unscrew it the head popped off. This made disassembly a bit tricky but I got there. I gained a couple of Barry points by having a screw with the correct thread and length, but lost three points because its the wrong colour and the head is different. Still, plan B was going to be a retap for a metric cap head screw. 19 1 Quote

h4nd Posted September 20, 2024 Author Posted September 20, 2024 Yeah, it's super tiny. It was the wrong size 0.66 inch, so about the size of my thumbnail. Then I fitted the WIDE-SCREEN one. 0.96" so a little bigger than my thumbnail. It's playable if you've got OK close up vision (old man). There's a 1.36" (?) on e on AliEx, might work? 1 Quote
Popular Post ThePog Posted September 25, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 25, 2024 I had some spare solar panels so I thought I would mount them to absolutely smash the amps into the cabin. It works sweet for that, probably helped by the Victron charger upgrade. It now has two seperate charging circuits one for each panel group. The chargers were surprisingly cheap and seem to do a nice job... But I needed something to angle these depending on the season. So I printed these out of ASA; And did thus; The ratio is pretty much 1:1 but they stay put and are pretty easy to turn. I just need to print a dedicated spanner, obviously. 17 Quote
Hemi Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Fuck thats cool @ThePog . thats the kind of stuff that gets me excited about 3d printing. i mean model jet engines are cool . but being able to just make intricate little parts cheaply and mostly labour cost is so cool ( once initial capital is taken acre of ) Quote

I pretty much exclusively print stuff I have designed myself. Once you get into the mentality of not having to worry about undercuts or tooling access then so much useful shit can get done. And now I have a printer that can print proper materials so the sky is the limit.. 5 Quote
Stu Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Nice work on using Victron too - Ive been using their gear for a few years now and they are excellent! Quote
440bbm Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 pretty cool idea pog. now just needs to UV light sensor on top and bottom to read the sun differential to automatically adjust with a stepper motor to the correct angle in the day with seasons so its all done for you LOL Quote

440bbm Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 if this was the case everyone would just buy fish from the market.. im sure you could knock it up pretty cheap. wouldnt be difficult. problem with more panels is still more to be gained with moving with the light... Quote
