RXFORD Posted May 17, 2025 Posted May 17, 2025 Hell yeh, thats cool. Now every time you hit the spacebar a few little rust flakes will fall out. 3 Quote
Early jap nuter Posted May 17, 2025 Posted May 17, 2025 It gives the full Datsun experience, just sits in a shed and slowly falls a part 2 1 1 Quote
Early jap nuter Posted May 17, 2025 Posted May 17, 2025 @hood cheers, next mission is to cut a S cargo up so it lays frame and stick it up on a pole as a sigh 2 1 Quote
Popular Post tortron Posted May 30, 2025 Popular Post Posted May 30, 2025 Old Tanner drill press hasnt had a propper on off switch the 6 years i have owned it. Where it is in the new shed is puts the unguarded belts exactly where the wall switch is. swept up some rubbish and picked out the good bits dunno what that bit of shaft was, but theres also an old 8mm socket and what i think is a broken myford handle/shaft 8mm because its a cast iron rotary type on off switch (But if you open it theres just a normal throw bakelite on off, which is funny) little ridge where the hex and body of the switch is, so made the handle fit over that, socket screw goes through the 8mm socket and holds onto one of the flats nice 23 Quote
Popular Post 63Ragtop Posted June 12, 2025 Popular Post Posted June 12, 2025 Built this little switch box this week at work, nice little project. Customer supplied the old on on the left, needed a new battery, it just opens a electric ball valve for testing. We needed another so I got some parts from jaycar. Who ever built the old one didn't include a power switch so you would have to unhook the battery every time you were finished and the wiring was a mess, half through the lid and half through the box, no heat shrink etc. also made a nice label on the laser, very satisfying. 17 1 Quote
Popular Post nzstato Posted June 15, 2025 Popular Post Posted June 15, 2025 Kinda 3d print thread, but also here. I have decided that I do need a little bit of dust collection on my thickensser as have a project upcoming where I'll be using it alot. I made up a simple 2 piece collector housing to go on the thickesser and printed it out in PETG, found a cheap vortex separator on Temu (though in hindsight I could have printed that too), then a bunnings bucket + hose completed the ensumble. Isnt 100% (but I dont need it to be) and a quick test run has it working fine as long as you're not expecting it too much of it. Beware of the 'dust collection barry' rabbithole which exists on the internet. Continuing the wood tool theme.... I very much like the concept of a track saw (and will be handy to process some beams I have here) but refuse to pay the $$ that is demanded by festool + others considering. Found some alloy extrusions from Temu for ~$40 which come close to the Festool profile and the printed a 'sled' which matches the groove profile + my skilsaw base. Doest have the depth of cut as a retail plunge saw but worth it for the $ I have into the whole affair. 20 2 Quote
Popular Post h4nd Posted June 17, 2025 Author Popular Post Posted June 17, 2025 Once upon a time, baby-engineer H4nd was at polytech, and we were making PCBs for flashing LED circuits (Tape and Donuts!). I said, errr: I've been playing with some Audio circuits, Can I make that instead: Add a few scraps from 200A soft starters, and presto: still in service. I refreshed the caps with new cheap low ESR, and it's bumped the bass response a bit, didn't expect that! 10 Quote
h4nd Posted June 18, 2025 Author Posted June 18, 2025 Oh, and i farted out an (crude) animation system for that LED. if only I could figure out how to make a 2.5MB video work in this page Indic3x3 test1 crop(1).mp4 3 Quote
Popular Post SOHC Posted July 2, 2025 Popular Post Posted July 2, 2025 Heavy duty meat cleaver I forged, its not cut from plate, it will cut virtually anything and hold an edge, I spent the afternoon splitting fire wood with it and cut an old tire off a rim with it. 28 Quote
Popular Post SOHC Posted July 5, 2025 Popular Post Posted July 5, 2025 Someone wanted me to make that knife but then never got back to me, still needs hardening and grinding, also made a few spoons 10 Quote
SOHC Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 I made this one for a friend, made another 2 but I burnt one by not paying attention and the other cracked as it also got too hot. 8 Quote
Popular Post NickJ Posted July 17, 2025 Popular Post Posted July 17, 2025 Wanted a tipping die on the bead roller and while digging out some steel had an idea for a modular version to cover all bases rather than turning multiple dies 3 pieces, the two collars can stack either side of the die to place it where needed, had planned to drill a roll pin between the lot as there is no drive feature on the die, but so far it works a treat. Next up, some nice radii and Datsun related profiles 15 Quote
h4nd Posted July 17, 2025 Author Posted July 17, 2025 TO THE BODGE THREAD WITH YOU! Jks: looks sweet, and I'm all about reconfigurable tools/storage these days. Are you making a Datsun from scratch? 1 Quote

63Ragtop Posted July 18, 2025 Posted July 18, 2025 I didn't build shit for this one. Got given a old record No3 awhile back, was completely seized with something in the jaws After a couple days in the electric bath it freed up easy and moves better than that shitty China long neck thing behind it ever has. 7 Quote
tortron Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 Plan on making a tip for one of my oilcans to match those little flush ballbearing types on english lathes that always make a mess and dont let any oil in Have a couple of little ones with torn/broken tips, so heres a trial for proof of concept i will make the final one more like a flying saucer shape, so it matches the little sort of dished bit around the ball bearing and a flatter angle on the taper, (although this one would be good if i cut the tip shorter, but this will probably go live with my vickers sewinc machine and just needs a fine tip) 6 Quote
Raizer Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 Ball oilers like a little slit in the end Tip presses the ball in, taper seals to the ID of the hole in the oiler, slit lets the oil flow. 8 Quote
