Kimjon
Brother gave me a crossbow for a birthday present...thanks bro! It's surprisingly accurate, easily get arrows (technically called "bolts") touching in a target set about 10m away. And smashing a pizza box at 60m. However I noticed the front sight was bending. On closer inspection I realised that the string actually comes forward and strikes the front sight post! Not great for string longevity or accuracy. Solution time: That should do it for now. I may loose the front sight altogether and replace it with a red dot sight mounted on the rear above the trigger mechanism. I'm just not that convinced that the shit metal front sight will be able to withstand any knocks it may get when out hunting...but for now it will do. Im now fired up to take a day off work and try hunt something with it to see how it goes. Should do the business...
Popular Post Kimjon
After all that, I just couldn't silence my inner voice. It kept saying don't fuck round with a bad idea that'll let you down after you've put in a heap of time, money and effort to get close enough to an animal only to fuck it up because of a shit taiwanese metal sight. So I dug through the gun cupboard and found an aimpoint that's no longer in use. Chucked it on with an abortion of adapters upon adapters to test it out for fit. Looks promising...so I'll machine up my own adapter to lower it all down tomorrow. Nothing like a $2000 sight on a $150 crossbow eh:) but fuck it...it's made me happy.
Kimjon
Had a very quick sight in at home before heading off for the day. Took 6 shots to zero...and then got repeatable results like this shooting offhand (standing up unsupported) at a range of 18m. Almost boring to shoot now with the red dot. Just keeps putting 2 arrows (bolts) side by side. Both bolts shoot to a slightly different point of impact...so I'll buy a few more and batch sort them into tighter groups. For the money (hehe...it was a gift so didn't cost me anything) it's hard to beat. Pretty cool when something exceeds expectations eh.

Popular Post Lord Gruntfuttock
Tidying up today I made a holder for stubby coolers out of old drainpipe. Just slot em in the top and pull out the bottom when you feel like grabbing a frosty one... It's inside the garage door as bbq kept under the carport out there now. Would have put this outside beside bbq but would be a haven for spidies...

Lord Gruntfuttock
Still tidying. Took a break from garden shit to knock up a bracket to hold my golf trundler. Couldn't find anything big enough so narrowed some old 10-speed bars... A lick of paint... And it now hangs in the cupboard out of the way... So that's another little bit of garage space feed up...
Popular Post dmulally
This 1912 Lister powers my off grid house in winter. I've since plumbed in a 10 meter exhaust to outside which means I only hear the rhythmic clanking of the valve train and flywheels. It runs a tractor/drag racing alternator then goes through a sterling 3 stage charge regulator to my house batteries. Runs on 850ml of fuel an hour and the longest I have had it run was 24 hours straight with zero dramas.

I thought about that but as the exhaust goes straight up to the roof it isnt feasible to have the venting reservoir up so high. But I'll come up with some crazy idea. 26 minutes ago, SOHC said: Shit that alternator must be spinning fast Only at 2200rpms. Which is why I used the tractor one as they are made for low rpms. The lister only runs at 350rpm.
