  1. so from here i have now got new tyres that are a bit bigger. got a 205 75 14 which was the biggest 14 i could get and just started clocking up some kms of to the mt to go to a mates party. went the long way so get some nice views. 1st night for @Mrs 64valiant and i in the kombi together. i put some stripes on the side to see if it was something i was after im not quite sold on them yet. also got a 2nd plate made from @Archetype after loosing my one. i dont even know how i done this. had a couple of peaces of paint that were cracked and water was just sitting in them so i just sanded it back to metal and put some primer on it & painted it white to just seal it and keep the water out of sitting in it. check out the layers of paint. no time for body filler i was just wanting it sealed. now i was about to do a trip to Fielding with old @Geophy i thought i better fix some water leaks. i found it was leaking through the wiper mechanism so pulled the wiper blades off. clean these wiper blades up and paint them black might not be much but man they look so much better been black. now the trip to fielding with young geophfey, wouldn't be a trip south of taupo with out snow right? both times i have driven this way in my vws it has snowed and both times with this guy. hold up. take a few steps back, we were making our way down the line. when my wheel bearing started to make a little noise, say an hour in. So an hour from anywhere with a dry location. A few phone calls later @Ned was home and was welcoming me to his dry garage and a few of his tools. a wheel bearing, fish & chups later and we were back on the road. thats right snow. we made it to the ding hotel were we proceded to get drank on cheap big bottles an i slept amazingly in the bus again. next day we done some swapping of the meat and went for a little drive. i got a brand new kombi that day pretty proud owner of a nice new kombi..... with that new kombi we went for a cruise on some back roads to which i heard my wheel bearing again...... but we made it home safe thanks to @Bistro skillful driving. got drank again and another lovely sleep in the bus. then it was time to head home, better re pack my bearing before we head on home....... then we hit the road again. which brings me close to where i am now. how to get a vw bus in and out of the shed we had. so no longer we are at that address and the bus is living out side which means i have been driving it a bit more daily... which is were i noticed a some what noisy wheel bearing...... new bearing races inserted new bearings and a wheel alignment tomorrow. and now i should go make my rx3 carpets before i have to drop them off tonight. we are off to raglan on Saturday and i see labour weekend everyone is going camping so we might go to that in the bus. laters dudes

  3. Ardunio nano on a small board with some hall effect sensors. installed in the end of an old can, some melted plastic in the holes, light passes through the plastic so i know where to drill it to put the bolts through.

  4. One side of the engine is finished, the other side has the odd genuine only bearings on order, polished the forks, took one apart, front brake plate needs a boss welded up for the cable stop as it’s broken, had to fix the side stand as it had been touching the chain and that had cut it in half up the middle for about 40mm, other than that it’s just cleaning huge amounts of old oil and dirt off, this must of been used on a farm as the amount of grass seas soaked in oil was about 30mm thick,

  5. They're breeding like rabbits! Plus another one on the bench as a "work in progress". Waste of money you say - can't argue with that...but some people gamble or smoke that amount in a month, so there's worse habits out there I guess?

  6. Front end back together after a year and a half. Now she's out in the sun all the body issues are painfully obvious! I've got some rust to fix over the R/R wheel and in the boot, and the clear is coming off in sheets, but it drives sooo nice. It's like night and day from the old 5M, and definitely glad I went manual. I've still got a long list of small stuff to tick off before cert, but I feel I'm on the home stretch now.

  7. Engine mounts trimmed and sitting in place. Will need that leg bent in to sit against the subframe and probably a brace going rearward too. Too easy!

  8. Sorry I should have said into the sump, not the inlet manifold. It allows the blow by a path to the head then out through the breathers and the oil can flow back through the drain holes with no back pressure Nice! The 25det neo head is the best. It's a solid lifter head, same ports as gtr but with vct. Some people are making silly power with stock unopened motors

  9. I think Andrew Hawkins runs (or ran) a standard pump, but yes, stay off the limiter or you'll end up with multi piece pump gears like I did. I ended up buying a second hand Tomei pump after destroying the N1.

  10. We went for a drive today. Started with heading to caffeine and gasoline. Had a look around at a few cars. Then headed to pukekohe to visit a few mates while we were up that way. No one was home so we heading to port waikato and then continued our way down the coast. Clocked up just over 120miles. I visited this spot while on the vespa and pretty much done the same trip just in reverse. Such a stella day and kombi went really well. 10/10 nice roads and great scenery, much wow. Also done a oil change on Saturday. Will post those photos tomorrow.

  11. https://youtu.be/onQO9h5A83M Finally. Feels weird driving a car that used to have buzzing points. Now it only has this digital thing running the show. Torn between continuing the coil on plug thing or coding some decent ignition timing for it.

  12. I got Darth vapour in Henderson to blast and paint the frame, I got the wheels done as the chrome was bad, I might paint the spokes silver lol, they Are too good to cut out the spoke and scrap the rims. getting the frame painted with the bottom yoke and swing arm on turned out to be a not so good idea, I cant get ether off.

  14. Since this has been fitted with VE wheels the speedo has been out by miles..... like 14ks out at 100 ive come close to getting a ticket so decided to sort it. The dash has always flickered and rattled so i decided to do a level 1 to level 3 dash upgrade and buying a license to reflash the body modules. This was fun as you can add the Hsv startup GIF and a cystom off message currently the "Blue whale" after the nickname it got from getting airborne chasing my work colleague in his sports car thing. Apparently Breaching is what my car does over undulations. So now i can plug in just like my VW and change shit in the BCM and ECU

  15. Well ive tried to sell this after hitting rock at work and cracking the sump it sat on the lawn for 8 months getting nothing but a drink of oil and a short drive every now and then. I got sick of it been all forlorn full of water from been nose up on the drive and starting grow mould with no one biting on a low asking price. I got a offer for the 19" wheels i couldn't refuse so its now been put on 18s with new tyres and had some "more" money thrown at it so i can use it as my daily. ......... fuck it is quick. Ive got 2/3 of a 3" exhaust once i get warrant that can go under it for even more poke. A Sump a set of seal's and new cambelt kit are on the way from the USA to get it all nice again.

  16. Just buy a set of reimax gears for your stock 25 pump. The n1 pump pumps a LOT more oil and this extra volume means there is less metal in the gears. That's the best value upgrade. There are lots of copy n1 pumps about. Edit- I know a few limmy bashing drifters who have had no issues with the reimax gears. You have to disassemble your pump first to measure the gears to double check the diameter Also, the head drain that everybody does, is actually a sump vent. The oil drain holes from the head are not huge and at high revs oil pools in the head as the blow by is trying to get back up the same holes the oil wants to gravity drain down. Build a catch can and plumb it to the rocker covers and a tapping point on the inlet side above the oil level. Have you got a r32 or 34 25det? The 33 has an extra oil drain at the front due to the vct being a constant loss system when it's not engaged. The 34 vents much less oil into the head

  18. He got back to me just now. "Hi, Unfortunately there is no set answer. Any RB oil pump will supply enough FLOW for what you want to do. They are replaced/upgraded for strength. Strength is required to cope with limiter bashing, high rpm etc. I have used stock used oil pumps on several builds of 600-700hp without issue but I stay off the limiter etc. If you can afford to, go Nitto. If you can’t, get a good condition used, or new genuine Nissan oil pump (be careful of N1 Chinese knock offs) and stay off the limiter. Good luck , Rob." So I will just get a new N1 Pump, and set a rev limiter using the ECU. Just need to find an answer on the crank collar, will try do some more research myself if I can find the time today. Cheers for the advice from everyone so far.

  19. On a random side note, I did a mini spring clean of the shed today. I had accumulated a rather large pile of ever increasing junk taking up a bay for no good reason. Amongst this was a project I rarely look at...so I removed the covers to reveal it for a look... Fuck yeah...seriously...fuck yeah!!! Makes me wonder what the fuck I'm doing spending time on gopeds when I could be putting the finishing touches on this 99% finished harley? Someone kick me in the balls!!!

  21. Back in the game! a literal bootload of 18rg parts just turned up at work. purchased from a mates mates father up north. highlights include; a mint block, that has been professionally honedand surfaced. nearly all rebuild parts. a couple of really clean heads and a partly complete dismantled but complete one. the early "230" head has port work. but ill most likley use the very clean and resurfaced "270" efi head as they had bigger ports anyway and are much stronger with a lower compression, they just had wimpy cams, so the 230 cams may find there way in there too. a slightly lighted flywheel, which will probably be ideal for a street car. once the crown is shipped off to panel in the next week or so, ill hook into building this engine. i need to do alot of measuring and thinking about what combo of parts to run though.

  22. So Al my work mate was good enough to give the intake manifold a bit of a tidy up with the die grinder while I was assembling the engine With getting the engine pretty much together I thought it was time to get onto a few of the bolt on items. I know from my mk1 cortina that I was wasting my time the orginal alternator. So I found a old Nissan alternator and fitted that. Redrilled the holes and it pretty much lined up. Changed the pulley over from the old Lucas alternator. Which just ment turning the hole out to suit the Nissan alternator. So it's pretty much together just have to sort the flywheel out next.

  24. Done a quicky on the painting, minimising the work to get it done, and by done, i mean water proof and ready to roll quick high build prime over the sanded back repaired areas then a blow over with the blue. i mixed a bit much paint and instead of waste it, I got a few sags instead Still, unmasking is just the best Front door bits swapsies. Its surprising how much lighter a car door is without all the trimmings! took bits off all three to make one 'good' one Again, this one fit straight in the hole a treat (after a shim here and a hinge shave there) and now opens and closes the best it ever has so ive decided i quite like the look of these doors and they can stay Tidied out the inside of various mostly empty boxes and various screws, trim and clips, that are now consolidated into one bin Put the grill and headlamp assemblies, nearly all the bulbs now mostly work after a wiggle or a tap. Still a bit of a list of things to do, - Exhaust has a leak, looks easily accessed - handbrake cable buzzes on exhaust - i messed something up when i assembled the rear door, the window snags on the door lock rod when its wound down - sand the runs, flies and dust out the of the paint once it hardens a bit more - polish - clean and install chrome trims I also put the interior of the doors in and gave the dash a wipe. . Looking forward to giving this thing a good blazz again soon! Its mobile and driveable now and only the exhaust really needs sorting for a WoF, and now its together it also means i can start sort a lot of stuff out of the shed and into storage etc

  25. Made this today, put together out of left over parts that have accumulated over the years doing other projects. It's been sitting in a pile of bits for almost a year on my work bench getting in the way everytime I try to do something... Pretty happy with it, making something out of nothing. Still needs a rear wheel, but I started it up and it sounds wicked!

  26. 2 months later i have all the bits to rebuild the bottom end. the heads are already finished and i have them back. parts, 9 to 1 CR Ross forged pistons (the cunts will not change the value of the parts on the shipping invoice so keep that in mind when deciding to use them or not) eagle H beam rods and ARP rod bolts ARP main cap studs and bolts new genuine Toyota oil pump theres heaps of other shit too but you get the picture. block will now be bored and honed to 88mm. rotating assembly will get balanced and ill get the short block back. then its reassembly time. good days. or maybe not good days. going in to hospital to get back surgery in about a month so that will fuck all progress for a while............... 2019-09-19_07-59-37 by sheepers, on Flickr 2019-09-19_07-59-22 by sheepers, on Flickr 2019-09-19_07-58-23 by sheepers, on Flickr

  27. Witchcraft! I just replaced the original fusebox with a new magical one from the future which isn't all hot and melty and gives me more than 9 volts at the headlights! Amaze. Represent. Another year of legality. And since all my thread images are poked, here's one so you and I don't forget what she looks like. <3

  29. finally got around to cleaning some things for a measure up and a parts order. the engine is all stock sizing wise. however when i cleaned the oil from the bores i discovered they really wernt that flash. cyl 1 & 2 are pretty okay, some staining which would come out with a hone. but cyl 3 & 4 have some fairly deep corrosion when the pistons/rings sat, from when this engine was sitting in a field for years. Cyl 1 Seems i didnt photograph Cyl 2, looks much like 1 Cyl 3 (the worst) Cyl 4 quite gutted, always seems like nothing ever goes smoothly on this car, theres always something. perhaps this post should be in the depression thread cause not very much has gone well in the past wee while. i haven't got the gear at home to measure how deep the corrosion is. but can borrow it from work. its looking like my options now are to try and find a new second hand good block, or if its not too deep, bore it 1mm over and use the 89.5mm forged pistons that are available. this will add over $1500 to the bill and probably 6 months of saving up if not more. im surprised to find this since it ran awesome, and the compression was great, even when i suspected an issue and checked it very recently. please give educated opinions here. including options for perhaps yet another engine swap, although that will most likely cost more and i can personally think of any an engine id rather see in the car.

  30. My oldest was super excited, he's done quite a bit on it over the last 2 years. Stoked to finally get it moving! There is still quite a bit to do before it's on the road, but the motivation is very helpful!

  31. Something I've been looking forward to for a year, putting the front back together. Luckily my two boys didn't go and loose all my bolts, and lots of pictures makes it so easy. The paint turned out nice too which is a bonus. Now the front is all bolted up the fuse box & wiring can go in, then I'll figure out the ECU wiring. I've got new neighbors moving in soon, might be making a good/bad first impression depending on their tastes. Maybe I should hook up the exhaust first...

  32. I've gone front to back replacing all the old low pressure fuel hoses. I chopped the engine bay fuel lines a foot shorter to tidy it up, and I found a nice spot underneath for the filter. The fuel tank pickup hole is tiny at 45mm, but I've managed to fit the new electric pump to the pickup and squeeze it through. I've ordered a bulkhead terminal for power, then it's just pump wiring and the fuel system is sorted... Thanks for watching!

  33. Tonights effort. engine fully disassembled, except the head. everything looks good, its clearly had coolant in the oil. the bearings are fairly worn, but the surfaces look primo. im piking the wear on the bearings has been from the water. Nothing very obvious on the head gasket though other than being quite brittle and shitty. its had a rebuild before so that could be a contributor now onto cleaning and sourcing new parts.

  34. I've had to tweak the L/H manifold to get past the clutch slave, just rotated the flange by 90 degrees. I also made up the new clutch hard line. Engine mounts are done and bolted on for the last time. The new flywheel/clutch/bell housing combo had a weird issue where the thrust bearing would just about fall off the nose of the gearbox before the clutch was disengaged. I guess I could have spaced out the flywheel but I didn't like the reduced starter teeth engagement, so I ended up having the nose lengthened by 10mm by my local engineer. He made a nice job where the extension is pressed in another 10mm inside from the join, I feel much better about it now. I've just got to finish adjusting the pivot ball length & slave cylinder angle, then the whole lump should be ready to bolt in!

  35. Have put around 800k's on this so far, nothing has really gone wrong apart from the clam shell bracket breaking, the diff continuing to whine, and being caught out in the rain on 3 occasions. Looking to change to cycle guards- will have to figure a plan out for that. Also looking into changing the diff- might go for a helical LSD. Fitted some nice low profile side mirrors. Also need to sort a bonnet- which I will need to get fabricated. Currently it has a single side draft, but the manifold is on quite a rake, so there will need to be a hole in the bonnet so the carb can protrude. A solution would be to switch to a twin carb manifold which would keep the carbs horizontal, and run twin 40's so I get full bonnet clearance, but this is a further expense, further complexity and it's running great with the single 40. Anyway- photo from the last outing Cheers
