  2. Well got a bit more done today. Have been busy with a school production. Took off this air con unit which has been on the last twenty years going around and around doing nothing . (Ripped out air con radiator ages ago to fit inter cooler). Then I thought hmmmmm theres a space, I need to fill that. There's a couple of brackets in here somewhere. Bracket 1 Bracket 2 Now that should be better. More power for the stereo. 1 alternator at 50 amps for the car electrics and 2 alternators at 80 amps (160 amps total) for stereo.

  3. Passed a Wof not too long ago which required new King Pins . So replaced them and also fitted new rotors and pads while i was in there. Currently changing thermostat and flushing the coolant Next up is some rear tailgate door window seals then i can start the cabinet making for the inside wrap around seating and liquor cabinet. Once winter is gone ill be attacking the small amount of rust at the top of the A pillars then get the englisman to Silver metalflake the roof and then get onto some lake pipes and this is the van loaded up with 3 of my bikes heading out to QCR Dirtmasters

  5. Washing the accumulated storage grim off Felicity revealed her lovely condition. Oh she looks good and I must admit a few caresses were shared as she was tucked back into the garage... With inspiration flowing the W50 gearbox and Pinto bellhousing was trial fitted. Success! As it came together nicely. Then I left my rubber arm a bit too close to the guys and ended up accidentally buying something... Why chose this jellybean shape of '90's excess...? Because YB Turbo. Hmmmm a little distraction, again. Thank goodness I have an understanding wife as I dragged this home.

  7. Finally have some time off uni to give Maggie the love and attention she deserves. Took here to her first monthly meet which was a cool time, but now she's off the road again to get her engine overhauled. Haven't fully decided the extent to which we are going to refurb it but given it's mainly an educational exercise it won't be a biggy. At the moment the list is: - Main engine seal - New clutch - Valve seats hardened (anyone done this?) - New water pump - Fresh coat of paint (engine and bay) - New gaskets/seals/some hoses Got her into hover mode and started pulling it all out. Will hopefully borrow an engine crane and get it out in the next week. Chur for looking, more to come.

  8. Just recently purchased this beauty off trademe from Auckland Had 73crownwagon & 64 valiant check it out for us at BeachHop and it they said it was all good so we purchased it. Then Denham & Peter picked it up for us on the following wednesday and then went over the van to make sure it was up to the big drive back to Christchurch. Cant thank Denham enough for sorting it all out including picking me up from the airport on sunday . Hit the road about 2pm with my buddy Vety who just brought a 06 Feilder wagon and we started our journey home. Took a few hundred Ks to get used to the Left hook. arrived in Welington to catch the 2.30 am ferry at midnight then boarded and crashed out in the sleeper cabins and woke up 6am when we arrived in picton. Carried on thru to Blenheim to have breakfast with my folks then back on the road for christchurch. 1080km later and $360 in gas and we are super stoked. The Van is super tidy with only a couple small rust bubbles at top of windscreen and a couple on the bottom of the doors Interior has been re trimmed when it arrived in NZ in 2010 when the late Ewan Gilmour brought it in. heaps of paperwork with it which looks like we are the 4th owners of the van ,3rd kiwi owners. The paperwork says its a 351 V8, C6 Auto but the guy i brought it off seems to think its a 302. Will look into it when i get underneath. We have 70s styling in mind for the interior and some factory spec stripes on the outside and some lake pipes.

  10. Hey Oldschool! I'm Sam, I've been browsing the forums for awhile now and I've finally got around to starting a thread for my old boat. This is Leila, my '74 Camaro. She's running a small block 350, Hooker headers, Edelbrock intake manifold, Holley carby and Mallory electronic ignition. Idles like theres some sort of cam in there but I don't know for sure, the rest of the running gear is stock apart from the air shockies in the rear. I bought her off trademe 7/8 months ago, she'd been sitting in an old fellas shed as he didn't have the time to drive it. I drove Leila for a couple of months before the brakes packed up and she sat on my folks lawn for a couple of months while I mucked around with my VL and saved some cash for new brakes. Pictured is soon after I bought it home, since then I've changed the wheels as the Cheviots looked too much like modgies to me, and rebuilt all the brake system. She's now wof'd and reg'd and I've been putting a few miles on it. The mrs and I took it to Hanmer last weekend and its also a pretty sweet daily driver. Sure beats sitting in traffic my commodore! Plans for the next couple of months are replacing the suspension bushes, rebuilding the steering, widening or replacing the rear wheels and fabricating a new exhaust system. Please bear with me while I figure out how to create a discussion thread and figure the rest of this forum business out! 12. So alot has changed on this bike. This is what it looked like at QCR Dirtmasters 2014 Stretched frame with pullack bars I bent the main frame tube doing too many jumps and it sat in the corner for a good year Then once id set a date for Dirtmasters 2015 I set about transforming my bike again So i chopped the bent piece of tubing out and De raked the front forks bring them more upright. Then i welded another smaller diamer tube on the top bracing the neck back to the tank. Then cut rear guard off and moved top shock mount forward Fitted a XL175 21" front wheel with a old knobbly and then fitted a new 17" knobbly on the rear for grip Also fitted a solo seat and tried two different sets of bars out. with the later Chain curtain window bars being used at Dirtmasters Also fitted a 110 auto clutch 4 speed Chinese motor for more power donated by hogan. couldnt find anything i could use for a pipe so welded on a a TMC stainless steel 2 stroke Expansion pipe and it sounded wild! Overall so happy with the bike that im gonna make it a dedicated dirt bike now. So it will get a new front tire and fork rebuild and then some better rear shocks. pining

  14. Sorry to keep you waiting. I know this is a long overdue update so I'll keep it brief with lotsa photos Here's it's current state Removed the subframe and struts then water blasted the muck out and had a look for signs of serious rot - which there was none! Just some light surface rust. The boots almost ready to go. Just need to cut, fold up and weld in a support bracket that spans the lock assembly support (took ages to hammer that back into shape) to the end between the shock towers. Then it's ready for base coat (that's POR-15 painted there so far) I was lucky enough to get a pair of awesome mounting brackets form a chap in the states that was making a few for himself and his mates! This will make the m20 mount onto the standard subframe mounts! Another benefit is it will push the engine further back into the center of the car and means I don't need to hack the nose-panel up to make it fit! Woo! Here's the test fit on the subframe - lookin good! I'll need to drill new mounting holes in the drivers side subframe mount as it sits roughly 15-20mm out which is no biggy. I'll do that once the subframe is bolted back into the car and the engine is resting on there naturally. Don't want to drill now in-case it's not straight etc and don't want to put extra stress on the mounts. So vice grips will do for now. However, the passenger side is perfect! Will add a strengthening plate to the inside of that subframe mount as thats a classic spot for stress cracks. One issue is the steering box vs the headers. In short.. It fits! but... The guibo heat shield is touching the headers. Not by much, but those headers will cook the guibo and the steering box in no time. I'll have to make up some headers myself one day. I'll also need to look into an oil filter relocation kit as the steering box definitely interferes with the filter. All in all - I'm very happy that the engine fits and there's space for future headers to flow around the steering box! I was starting to stress if there was going to be enough space and would have to forego the M20. I always figured I'd need to make up some headers and think about relocating the oil filter anyway. So next up is bolting the subframe back into the car, dropping the engine back on and align it all, drill those holes and check the clearance on the firewall end (thinking of taking out the rain tray there) then get the engine tested to see if it's worth building back up. I'll also be prepping the engine bay ready for paint. EXCITING!

  17. so ive just spent the last couple of days flying to wellington getting a ride from Steelies to the train station getting the train to masterton picking up the C10 and driving home to Auckland stopping by Sparkles pad catching up with him and blizzo and then on to Testaments place in taupo and then finally home this morning. the trucks pretty sweet just needs a bit of TLC getting it back to a decent standard again since the last owner didnt really look after it all to well everything just a bit fucked like the brake boosters leaking the seat has a tear in it carpet needs replacing starter motor and flex plate are eaten out a bit so starts with alot of grinding. but motor seems to run at a nice temp and shifts gears nice motor idles good so its a good start shouldnt take too much work to make it a minter plans are fix all slightly fucked things also relplace the bonnet since someones done a shit rust job on it and it doesnt sit right so easier just replace it and paint it yellow rather then the white. and basically drive it around heaps

  18. Chipping away, nearly finished. Lots of little bits done. Mud flaps, half done tail lights, safety chain, decent pins for each end of the ram, most of the table top welded on, and a hydraulic tank that was a LPG cylinder. The tank was quite a bit of work, It has a removable top so I could get inside it and clean and paint it inside so no grit or welding splatter goes through the pump. It also mounts the return filter. If I did it again I'd do it a bit differently. So it goes. Everything's plumbed up, pump is mounted and it works! Well even. There's a couple of things to do yet, the Chinese ram has a pin hole in a weld and leaks oil, there's a couple of braces and guards to make, and wire up some tail lights. Then it's all go.

  19. I would second using epoxy paste and strips of alloy. Use something decent like devcon or my favourite- JB weld. Glad to see progress on this. Such cool little cars and very rare I ever see one around Nelson.I think only one here? Cant imagine there's many others about NZ? I say have a continue on doing your own repairs to body- you'll just get better and better and the grinder will always be your best friend at making things look neat. Just keep all repairs low enough you can finish off with a thin skim of filler. Oh and we aint in America... All this 'fender' talk... If its got a bonnet and boot its got wings. (can of worms now open)

  20. Pulled off the bumpers and grill today and sanded them back. Decided to try the paint out first on the grill and headlight surrounds. Turns out the paint shop gave me gloss instead of the satin/matte black I asked for. Doesn't look too bad in gloss, better than before. I'll probably grab some matte or satin black to paint the bumpers though, mightn't look right in gloss. Also got a boss kit and pulled the Nardi steering wheel off the racecar to go on this for now, since I am driving this more often. Some fender mirrors and a new front windscreen rubber also arrived. Will get more pics tomorrow.

  22. i took the screens out today. i was worried id find the same level of repair work around the screen channels as ive found elsewhere (the screens were held in with silicone and hope so i knew some cowboy had been in there previously) but to my surprise there is no rust and the original clip pins for the trim are all still there and in fantastic shape so im super happy about that! the door above has been repaired and Peter will soon start on the pasingers side door. in other news, when i told Peter that i was going to buy a fiberglass boot lid for the car because the ones i have are to far gone to repair he had a fit and told me in no uncertain terms that i was not putting glass panels on it as long as he lived so hes fixing a boot lid for me as well. result. i probably would have gotten more done on this if i hadn't been playing with superchargers......

  26. So finished off spring some areas today, hit any sign of rust with the wire wheel and gave everything a good metal prep. Here it is all masked up in the booth ready to go and here it is in a couple coats of primer After I got that done spend the last part of the afternoon striping the two doors, they are almost ready for a metal prep so hopefully might get them done on monday. Didn't get anywhere near as far as I hoped but glad to have a good chunk in primer before the weekend.

  29. Got the master on. its ali and the old one steel, so light weight bonus. Has some brakes now. May need bias valve in there, as it's locking the rears first, but still need to bed in the front brakes so may come right.. The back of the truck weighs piss all. so doesn't need much rear bias. I can dead lift it off the rear x member, wheel barrow spec. when the diff isn't in there, and im a skinny white guy.

  36. Waterblasted the whole car, removed all the moss, did the door shuts etc. Greased all the latches along with wd40 in the locks. Fuel pump is dead, so pulled that out - replacement on its way. Replaced distributor rotor and cap -but still no spark as of yet. Oil & Filter have also been replaced. Had it cranking, and have cleaned the plugs up. Nastiness.. If you look closely here, you can see someone had done a bodge repair - hadn't cut the rust out, rather just overlapped with tin (not even panel steel) - Which no doubt caused sweating and further rusting.. Made a big hole All done, its sitting in primer now. Fully welded, Seam sealed, Fish Oiled, Etch primered and have undersealed the underside. Didn't have a chance to photograph the primer whilst I was packing up - and the weather packing in! Need to let the paint dry, sand back the inside - Will get a can paint matched with the fuel flap and finish it this week - weather permitting Discuss; //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48778-chriss-1987-mkii-golf-eurocup-racer-car-with-added-moss/

  40. Bit of a small update, been having a problem with a leaking axle, ended up taking it in getting the bearing etc replaced a second time, still leaked and started making a noise from the bearings in the diff. Took it back and turns out part of the LSD is broken off the side. Looking at having one machined or buying a new one. Also changing the ratio from 3.9 to 3.5 while the diff is in pieces. Turns out its an old LSD from the 70's still has plenty of life in it yet. Ordered my outer shells for the three piece wheels finally. 8" on the back and 7" on the front

  41. In keeping with tradition of not doing what I said I'd do next from my previous post.. This'll make it heeeeeeaps easier to mount the M20 and jazz it up A popular fix for fitting the M20 into these engine bays is to hack the top of the nose so a larger radiator can be installed and be brought forward. However, I've read that people have opted for not cutting up the nose by using a wasted spark setup and an electric water pump for the M20 as these can be remotely mounted. Doing this can save a fair bit of space at the front of the engine. So I might look into that! Been having a tough time deciding whether to restore the bottom of the nose back to original and roll as is, or buy a fiberglass airdam and stick it on. The airdam option will be by far the easiest, but I'm liking the original bumperless look more and more. Restoring the nose to original is beyond my amature tom-foolery, so I'll have to way up the two options financially and do some pros and cons. Hmm. Next up: get the engine in there and make up some mounts. Might be hard to do it properly without gearbox/clutch/bellhousing
