  1. Just for KK. Struts should be done this week and then will play with heights. 1.5" lower up front = tyres in line with guard. back only needs about 1".

  4. So with the custom springs I got off a guy on Facebook put in, it sat firmly on the bump stops in the front. so I removed them, and chucked the 100 spokes on. Stupid low. (its on 205/50r15s) I cant even fit my superlow jack under it ( 80mm) So probably gonna pull them out and give them back , and get some not so slammed ones (aim for around 100mm) and Ive lost one of the 2in blocks that came in the ute and the ubolts that I thought were gonna be able to be used are bent. so they're all junk. so probs new 2in blocks next payday and play with the leaves and get it to sit nice with the fronts. Should hopefully be back to the panelbeaters in the next couple of weeks to get rust in wiper channels finished, screen put back in and roof hole filled it. Its sat in the shed for a month, so Im really over it

  8. This idea has been around since internal combustion engines have been around, it was the only alternative fuel to ever completely replace petrol during WW2, I am having a crack at making a system, I need to find an oldish car to fit it to, something with a 4 or 6 cylinder with a distributor and carb and a manual transition, the older the better. I have mostly finished the generator and cyclone filter, water trap/cooler, I have another big cylinder I am going to make a filter witch uses dry grass/ wood shavings for a partial filter This is how it would look fitted to a car I have to make a lot of air tight hatches for cleaning etc. the fitting on the right is the shaker, I can put a spanner on that and rock the ash grate.

  11. So, everything is out of my donor car except the diff, rear discs, rear hubs etc. Will have that squared away sometime next week. Motor and trans have been steam cleaned and wire wheeled and is now ready for a re gasket and paint. Will take the rear diff assembly and the K frame complete with power steering rack, front discs etc to work to get them steam cleaned. Will drop a few bits and bobs inc front and rear disc callipers into the Paragon bath.......then boom POR15 time. Have brought new low King springs, water pump and thermostat housing, Holley 350cfm carb, free flow manifold, trans service kit and engine mounts, so once all my shit is clean.......it will be swap time, cant wait!! Oh and I just picked these up today. Brought them from a funeral home. They had been on one of their hearses but they decided to "upgrade". It's pretty cool to know that people are dying to go for a ride on these rims.......Ba dom chhh! Once all this is on, it will be time to tweak the cosmetics. Will fit the rear fender and tail light extensions as well as the tacho from my donor car. Then i think i will stop there and see if I want to proceede any further. Will most likely leave it there....

  16. Photos don't do her justice, next fine day will try and take her outside and wash all the dust off. A big thanks to Jake for the panel repairs and all the lining up of boot, doors, guards etc, and a huge thanks to Todd for a sik as custom pearl paint job, and assisting in the finishing and detailing over a few jim beams, and reassembly of the beast, also a big thanks to Andy for your work on the brakes. Also to Jason for all your electrical help in getting all the electrical demons sorted. Brian for your help with tuning and general help. So as you can see I haven't done this build alone, and I'm not about to make out I have, you see I've received help from various people. People whom are passionate about old and rare cars and want to see it back on the road and in pristine condition. To those who have helped I'm grateful for your help and support in making this project what it is today, you guys are the real heroes in this build, some very minor detailing left but almost there! A huge thanks to all, Darryl

  21. continued... Fixing it bit by bit wasn't really working so i bit the bullet in May this year and stripped it down and sent it to a panel shop to be fixed. (6 1/2 hours drive to drop it off) New wheels 1st - to get the body massaged to make them fit Dropped off at BigA's dads shop to get all fixed up. Nice to have 2 Celica liftback's together (BigA's RA25 in the background) Some of the work done - very pleased

  22. After keeping my eye out for a good one of these for a while this 1973 Mitsubishi Galant GTO popped up on here a couple of months ago and it now resides in my garage. Big thanks to forum member Runamuck who got me in touch with the owner Basil. Had a bit of a chat with Basil, liked what I heard so we agreed on a price and I posted a cheque down to Basil and Captain Transporter bought the GTO up to Auckland where I picked it up and drove it up to Whangarei. It drove perfectly and was a bit more powerful than I expected. The engine has been reconditioned relatively recently and doesn't use any oil or water which is a first for any Mitsubishi I have owned. The interior is pretty good . Could possibly do with some new carpets but not urgent. Has the original AM radio so listened to talkback all the way home. Was relatively enjoyable so I think the AM radio will probably stay. The paint is not too bad. It's definitely not perfect with quite a bit of brushed on other shades of yellow in areas where surface rust was obviously treated. The passenger door is a slightly different shade too. I wasn't that sold on the yellow when I saw the original pics and the plan was/is to respray back to original silver but the yellow has grown on me. A respray, if it happens, will be a few years down the track. It's had a few little nudges over the year, the original wheels have been painted silver, the front grill has a few cracks and there are various other little bits that need attending to but all in all it's a bloody honest little car and a real credit to the previous owners. Plans? This will be relatively slow. Need to find a couple of badges that are broken, I want to take the rear screen out and check a leak going into the boot (I think there may be some rust around the screen), then get the dents taken out of the bumpers/rechrome and basically tidy her up. The skinny rear wheels on her can be a bit frightening powering through corners so maybe a set of wider wheels but I don't really want to ruin the originality of the car. Maybe some Advan A3A's and a little bit lower might work. Feel free to comment or maybe even tell me where I can get an air filter for her. The paperwork included with the car seems to indicate the mechanic couldn't find one to replace the dirty one in there at the moment and I haven't got around to looking! 23. So .. I've been mega slack at putting up anything to do with my own cars... The current project that is in most pieces and getting serious work done is my rare 1977 Toyota Celica GTV LB (liftback) The story so far....... This was as purchased by my father many years ago. It was used as a service vehicle for my other 1977 Celica GT rally car. Dad always had issues with the engine timing and it never ran right. It was put in dry storage for many years until i decided i needed yet another project and brought it off him. First thing I did was found the engine was rather rooted and untuneable so over christmas i pulled the old 18RG and dropped an unknown spare we had purchased into the hole. Tidied it up while i was in there With a bit of messing about with carbs and tuning, it was running sweeter than ever. I have never liked tridents as mag wheels so swapped them out for a set of Bridgestone Zona -Spoke10 wheels i had around. I thought was a nice improvement. Also lowered it a little onto king superlow springs .. All was good for a year and a half until disaster struck On my way to visit sheepers one night, a van backed into the front of it and bending it Thankfully not a write-off and the it got fixed up reasonably straight. . . Looking at the condition of the car after the crash, being daily driven had taken its toll and it really needed some serious body work soon. Initially i was going to fix it bit by bit and try to keep it on the road, so the rear hatch and roof area had the worst rust and this was cut out a repaired.

  24. Hey! Im Aimee, I'm Shakotoms little sister. About 6 months back i went to a street culture meet with my brother to have a geeze, wandering around the meet i saw a KP Starlet and since then i fell in love. Saw this pop up and went to have a look at it, could see too much wrong with it so a couple of days later came home with it. And yes, this is Berjs' old Starlet. Meet Devon Discussion thread

  25. Caffeine and Classics is held on the last Sunday of every month. WHERE: Smales Farm, Auckland WHEN: 10am till 1pm. WHAT TO BRING: All cars are welcome. This has proved to be a popular event and there can often be over 300 cars in attendance. Everything from V8's to Rotaries. Hot Rods to Vintage. Euro to Japanese. Everything. What tends to happen now, is that most people show up by 9:30 if you want a spot in the front car park, as this is usually pretty full by 10:00am, although with an average of over 300 cars a month now, parking in the back car park is usually sweet, as this is often pretty full too. It also makes it easier for groups to park together.

  29. I am building the more completed Imbert system as it has a bit more control, you see alot of crappy down draft versions around as they are pretty simple to make but are hard to control. I am building a Swedish V heath system where the build up of ash protects the metal hearth from the oxygen, my plan was to install it on my old Volvo not for road use just for a bit of funn

  32. Today was a day to tidy up some loose ends, we fitted the radiator and cooler, oils lines on, water in radiator and oil in engine, fuel lines on, battery in boot, brakes bleed and adjusted, wheels back on, and finally started up mint, got some float issues in the ida but will sort another day, then she's drivable and off for a wof, window chrome back and front to go in and that's about it.

  35. So basically my brother is going to help me maintain it and teach me a bit about these things. After getting the car home we discovered it actually had a fuel leak from the hose between the fuel pump and the carb hardline, so i replaced it with a new bit of hose. the starlet came on the original 12inch steel wheels but the tyres are no good, Shakotom had a set of 13x6 alloys that he had squirreled away for a future project; so he decided to give them to me. they need abit of a clean up but should be good. does anyone know what they are? they're stamped ryobi on the face and my grandad had them on his AE86 back in the early nineties. I just need to get some starlet sized tyres for them. maybe 155/70r13s?

  38. Got made redundant from work so decided to come back to NZ and play cars for a week or so. Picked the car up from my mates place and made it immobile about 20 mins after getting it home. Swapped out subframes with the AE70, had to rip the engine out, proceeded to smash the dizzy to bits, but i guess thats par for the course. Just gotta plug the wires back in,top her up with oil and she should be good to go. Oh and track down an AE85/6 manual steering column as i had to put the 70 one in and its slightly different mounting spacing, so if you have / know of one im keen!!!! subframe out of the 70 had to hire an engine crane to get the 4ag out, only hired it for 4 hours, had the engine out, subframe out, new subframe in and engine back in in 3.5 hours. Ideal Sligtly wider track these days lol might have to do something about that lol sweetbix Yarn thread //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44816-shandangles-ae85-discussion/

  39. still plugging away to get it back on the road for Matts wedding on the 18th of this month. thats right, the 18th which is 10 days away. still to do, get sway bar back from manufacture and fit it (im told ill have it in my hand this Thursday) get drive shaft back and fit it (should get it back tomorrow night) finish re-wire of front end - headlights, horns, indicators etc tidy all the under dash wiring and put the dash back in tune it. so not to much to do but there are still some major items which are out of my control and i get nervous with relying on suppliers to do as they say they will do. anywho, time will tell. here's where its at as of Sunday night. engine bay is pretty much finished, just need to tidy up the wires under the intake and fit the air cleaner. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr front end. loom needs extending on the passengers side and then its finished and can be fully re-assembled. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr gear lever, short shifter made and fitted and new blank off plate made for the old hole in the floor (the stick is now further back than it was) Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr lossa wires to tidy/sort out. 41. I like how you have a perfectly suitable 4wd vehicle actually designed for the task, and yet you want to make a probably inadequate 4wd vehicle by modding the Tercel. I approve. But this sort of thing is a fetish of mine
