  1. Got a quiet day in Tokyo before we fly out to Thailand tomorrow, so thought I should put up the last photos of the car before I put it into storage.. With everything bolted back in underneath, I got the car back on its feet and started putting what little interior items I have back in, FOR THE LAST TIME! First was pedal box and hand brake, then run the fuel and brake lines and get them all tightened up and attached to the side of the tunnel. Next was steering column, battery, and seats. Annnd thats pretty much it haha. The wiring I will tidy up and wrap it before plugging it back in to fire the car up. Then bolted on the panels I had on hand, the rest are in various places getting modified, panelled, or moulds taken of them. Kinda tempted to leave the outside like this hahaha.. The engine bay is complete now as well, other than the wiring for the engine under the top cover, and the throttle bodies, everything else is in place, nothing more to add, pretty stoked how empty/clean it is, exactly what I wanted from the start of this project.

  4. Few more vids brother took. i was having trouble getting over the hill ! ^At the end, was the end. diff broke. thought it was one of the welded axles. but pulled it apart tonight and has broke the right side gear/spline. (not sure what you call it) in the lsd. guessing it didn't like the camber or possibly because the axles weren't engaged as far as they were last time. or just the raw 4age power

  5. Hey guys Names Greg and this is my Ap5 Valiant and a story to go with it. This all started in maybe 2003 when my dad decided to buy a one owner ap5 for the two of us to work on and do up. he passed away in 2005 and it then became mine. i drove it around for a while and then became a ordainment in my mums garage as i became engulfed in the modern car scene and road bikes. it got pulled apart maybe late 2007 for a full rebuild. ended up staying there for a long time and recently started putting it back together on the 21st of April 2013 (last month) so i could maybe have some garage space and enjoy it instead of it wasting away. here is a photo of what it looked like in 2005 at beach hop this is what it looked like once we cleaned the shit off it thanks to Evan for the massive help and these are all the missing parts that where just chilling in the garden shed out the back with in the 1st day we had bonnet and boot back on and wasn't to much loner the doors followed, had a few missing bolts and manged to lose a door hing that was easily replaced (aussie spears hamilton) in the mean time i had the dash sent away to get big head unit hole filled and dash painted up to look new again. also found a few old cool things while i was there cleaning it out. as notice this car has been a Hamilton car from brand new. no more head unit hole now and time for some paint. had also realized i needed one of my mags to be welded up so hit up a few mates over face book and ended up heading to George at advanced chroming on Ellis st. wasn't to long before i had it back and back on the tyre thought it would be a good idea to maybe change the oils and oil filter, so away with the old. thats gear box and next is engine oils went for a walk around to auto trail got me some new oils also got some spark plugs while i was at it. quickly chucked the dash in and came across this check the original low miles on this puppy. manged to sneak a photo of my helper having a sleep on some rags the lil bugger. thought i should get a mate over help out with the sparkie stuff, ended up new fuse box and wabam i could turn the key. wasn't long before i was poring fuel down the carbie and getting my partner to turn it over. WAHHOOOOO it goes!!!! the next day was out of the garage for the 1st time in meany years and yea we went but no brakes.... so rung a mate and turn out a rebuild was due for this lil guy was a lil bit of rust to do around the windows to clean up so got Evan around again and i found myself having a laugh at him so took a few photos and thats that. ny way hope u enjoy the read. here is the project discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38243-64valiants-ideal-ap5/

  13. Thought I would finally put a build thread up AW11 my first car. Its been two months since I got it from auckland, I managed to fly up there and drive down in one day with no trouble. Plans are to give it a tidy up, make a few small changes/improvements but keep it mainly stock. Enough talk heres some pics: Also discuss: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38219-nicks-1985-mr2-aw11-discussion/ Just after I brought it pretty dirty and sad looking First thing I did was give it a good wash, polish and wax (Just a slight difference, took a good 1.5 days) Started on the wheels. Sadly brake dust had eated through the clear and oxidised the alloy underneath so had to strip it all off. After paint stripper Metal conditioner working its magic After metal Ready(Phosphoric acid), pretty much removed any left over break dust and soften the surface off the alloy which made it much easier to polish. More pics to come for after polishing How it looks now outside work. Whats been done so far: Polished wheels and paint Cleaned up the rear trim- sanded down with 400-800-1600-2000-Polish New Pioneer stereo and speakers Steam clean engine Bead blasted cam covers Replaced from Front sway bar bushes Blasted and painted one window wiper arm Still left to do: New Accelerator cable Jimi backet Replace master cylinder New timing belt Fix exhaust- Missing one tip Fix play in rear right wheel Replace shitty old foam filter with a unifilter Install new painted and polished cam covers Few paint touchups mainly bumpers Repaint side mirrors

  16. Did some metal gluing today. Rear section is mostly welded in place and I tacked on some pegs. Also found that the handlebars from the ugly chopper fit quite nicely, so I'll probably use them now. The riding position is reasonable: Faux triple clamp:

  20. Operation "Restrain Fatty" has been a success! I welded up all the cracks in the seat mounts, added in a few welds on one mount (They seem to have been missing from factory? Lazy robot/Japanese person at the plant I guess) and then welded some thick washers over the area to disperse the load/weight. Managed to not set the car on fire even once!

  21. let me know if you need some enquiries made. its kind of my prefecture/I mow lawns for some of the local shady people/gangs. Its quite close to Avondale caravan park and I heard theres a lot of scum in there at the moment due to Auckland rental shortages. Wouldn't be surprised if somebody from there had found an empty house to strip a car at cos you couldn't do it at the trailer park. its withen walking distance so I think it makes them potential suspects. even just take a drive thru and see if you spot any mx5 parts... edit: I will keep an eye out. if its not people at that house it will be somebody very close by. edit: I have access to look around a lot of back yards etc

  22. That is super shit-house... If this happened to me I would really want to hurt people.. Especially when it was found in a back yard - something must be known and the culprits will hopefully be caught.. Let us know if there is a victorious arrest in this Jarred..

  23. curious. I'd have thought an inspection of your rego sticker reading 'KELTIK' with '2002 Subaru Legacy' should clear that up for them relatively quickly. 'hey, there must be some kind of sytems error - it's got a kosher rego sticker here. anything else I can help you with officer?'. perhaps the issue is that its fruitless trying to win an argument with an officer of the law. stick to the simple facts, and they'll give up when you stop getting riled. These guys often mirror ones behaviour, and if you're breezy and efficient they usually are too. the bigger the issue and more riled you get, the longer they spend toying with you. speeding through road works paints a very big target on you. the public would be dismayed to read of another road worker being maimed or killed so soon after one was shot dead. they're probably briefed and concious of that, and applying the 'front page news' test. in addition, roadworks demerits have gotta be quota points for jam for these guys.

  25. My thoughts on that is that it kind of takes it away from being an oldschool event, like seeing a bunch of people that we talk to on the e-webs that we don't see often. You guys would probably be hanging together the whole time and perhaps not mingling as much as you should. Plus it's supposed to be all about the cars, do they all have half finished cars in their garages? If so then get them on OS pronto. Just my two cents. Not up to me though.

  26. Thought id better stake my claim to this. Brought it off VG the week before Nationals She drove amazingly the whole way down and most of the weekend. Nats Sunday on way to the grasskhana the waterpump spat the dummy and i was left with a horrid grinding noisy caused by a collapsed bearing. Thanks to simon/richie/corbie/poo/fels/chickity/kurt for the help and patience on the monday while we organised getting it sent back home to Auckland. Got it back - got a waterpump - all go again. Last Sunday i had the esteemed privilege of being hand picked by (one of*) New Zealands leading automotive photographer for a wee shoot * to save people getting all butthurt over a jovial comment Immediate plans are to continue the tidy up ready for our wedding in June. Following that : - A quick trip to the Auto Upholsterer for fix a few rips and tears - Wire up a few accessories i have waiting plus the spotlight - The above wiring will be part of a total engine bay rework - its quite small and packed so hiding some wiring, moving the battery, cleaning parts etc to make it more presentable. - and of course - start looking into options for getting it lower.

  28. Engine out, all gaskets and seals replaced, MRP concentric, flywheel and xtreme clutch kit fitter. ECU and ignitor all wired up. New TRD engine mounts and gearbox mount, just need some new bellhousing bolts and will sling it all back in ready to fire her up. Also made this for the 86 so i can get the gearbox all back on by myself without having to get dodgy about it.

  29. Drank way to much last night and woke up hungover but decided to do something on the ute today Out with the 3Y and in with the 1G-GE for a test fit Fits awesome and looks like it should of come with it from factory can even use the GA61 radiator with it too ,bonnet closes fine. Going to be no major dramas with anything except the sump is going to need a notch to clear the drag link and running the clutch and fuel likes over the firewall to the intake side. I scored a set of custom mounts off trademe for $5 that were supposed to be for fitting a 1G into a hilux but they dont quite line up so not quite sure what to do there yet Will put the 3Y back in tomorow and proceed with getting the wiring and fuel side of the equation sorted then hopefully put the 1G back in good and proper And a sweet parting shot

  31. Hi guys. So I have decided on a bit of a change of direction for my V8 Avenger. I have decided to drop the Rover V8 and go for a Toyota 1UZ-FE instead. I have just started on the first of my spending spree's. First up I brought a '94 1UZ-FE and a set of OBX independent throttle bodies. The rest of my plans for the engine include some new cams and to flow the heads a bit. next on my shopping list is a R154 gearbox and Hilux LSD. Here are some photos. 34. With the freshly painted shell back in the workshop, it was time to bolt everything back in so I could put the car away for storage. Although I was in a rush, I had to get an exploded car photo, as this is the last time I intend to have the car in this many pieces for a long long time haha.

  37. Did a tiny bit of work on this, Put a new set of head lights in it. Worked out (with the help of J5 and Bro in law) that each of the four lights has its own fuse, some of which tested ok, but were dodgy, causing the lights to do weird things. Sorted that. Worked out that it was yet another dodgy fuse causing the alternator not to charge, sorted that. While the lights were out I gave the front panel a quick clean up, but cant get a yuck enough shade of beige in a can, so will have to try get a few cans colour matched and filled for me. The car has lots of small patches of surface rust like this all over it, where the previous owner has brushed over it with paint. Cleaning up the front, its had a light hit on the left hand side, so theres a bit of bog in there. The bumpers quite fucked. It looks a lot worse IRL, I spent ages trying to straighten it, but its fucked. I also started on the lowering, whipped out a rear spring, lol'ed me that even with the diff at full droop/shock disconnected I still had to compress the springs. OG spring VS Niva one, were meant to be different, but they are exactly the same. So I have an extra set if I cock up the cutting. Did a bit of cutting and fitting, ended up this long. Did both sides, had to take the three bump stops out, and the panhard rod is sitting on the exhaust (no biggie) but is about the hight I wanted. Its sitting a little bit lower on the RH side (rim to arch measurement) but the jack point to road measurement is exactly the same, so not 100% sure whats going on there, the fucken haggard drive is prolly to blame, need to get it on some flat ground. Will do the front springs, then go around and get it sitting nice and even all round. Then its find some shocks time! Regards, VG. P.S. TOLD YOU IT WASNT A DEAD PROJECT!
