66gt
I'm running Aussie Desert Cooler in my Senator. No issues yet but quite a bit of shit feedback on the forums about Desert Cooler. Seems they all have their problems no matter what brand
ajg193
If it's just in a shitty car that you want to keep running, why not get something second hand? Mega cheap.
Nominal
Last second hand radiator I bought leaked worse than the one I took out. Cheap new chinese replacement is still working fine.
Seedy Al
Yeah I would just buy a red line unit based on this thread. I had one on corona and was legit. As for what ever the comment was about putting one on an expensive motor., if you let a leaking rad demo you're engine then you shouldn't own cars.

Seedy Al
Na na. What ever that was a reply to. Anyway not important. Just buy old vws is the correct answer.

flyingbrick
For our VS i purchased the cheapest new trademe radiator i could find. I forget the brand but google said they were actually OEM for many japanese producers. Perfect fitment and been in there a few years with zero issues. Looked identical too- cant fault it at all.
1963 AP5
Sounds like it's going to be a bit of a lucky dip when it comes to the alloy radiators, as I kind of expected opinions are mixed. After a lot of phoning round today I have found a radiator specialist that is prepared to give me a sharp price on a new copper / brass item. Seems like a good deal although it's probably still made in China.
chasinthemirage
How do PWR radiators compare? Both Commodore radiators that I have are a bit unhealthy, tossing up whether I get the twin core OE radiator recored or purchase an alloy radiator? Not sure whether the n/a and factory turbo radiators are any different although the radiator that's fitted is apparently an early single core and the twin cores were introduced later on. JoKer
Threw a Fenix in my e34 couple years back no worries
1963 AP5
Radiator is all fitted up to our VK now. I think it was worth getting the OE style copper item in the end simply for ease of installation. It's a 2 core item and the quality seems to be very good, cost no more than an alloy one in the end but needed to phone around a few places to find somebody who was prepared to do a good price.

I hear so much bad stuff about them, I think I have mentioned this before but: Fenix and other cheap Chinese radiators have a 30% failure rate. All this means is that if you fit one to your car don’t ten go out and drive the full length of the country. Fit it, run it up to temp in the garage. Do a few laps of the block. That way if it fails your are close to home. If it doesn’t fail immediately then you are probably all good to go. Other things to know about them is that they normally require some modifications to fit correctly. We put one in my mates RX-8 and other then a wee jiggle to make it fit he’s had 40,000kms worth of trouble free motoring. Also, if it is one of the 30% that do fail they will normally swap it. oldrx
Chinese gamble only worth it if you put fuck all value on your time (which you shouldn't, unless you're pretty solid on reincarnation, which you shouldn't be)
