mjrstar
I know of the MR2 as being a suitable donor for the P.S pump, i was wondering if there is much else out there possible a bit lighter / more compact and newer..
KKtrips
Could try Rover MGF - they are fairly compact from memory Although they are British.. (cripes...)

AllTorque
Googled the mazda 3 and it came up with millions if faults/complaints etc... In my defence, I didn't say they were good, just that they had them.
mjrstar
Probably no worse than the suggestion of something from pomgolia..
mikuni
About 1998 to 2004 shape Holden Astras have a bulky electric pump too. Can't comment on their reliability, but they are relatively cheap and easy to find and the reservoir is incorporated in the pump, so might be good to tuck away somewhere and just run high pressure hoses to the rack. I'm thinking of using an electric assisted column in my track car with a dial to adjust assist as mentioned above. They can be had in this country from later model Holden Barinas
flyingbrick
Wow, did not know those existed. There must be some kinda tq sensor on the column to work out how much assist to give and in which direction???
KKtrips
MGF Column - If you want one or want to ask some spec details you could ring www.mgparts.co.nz and talk to Paul Walbran Or try Ray Hartley here in Wellington but I would doubt he has anything.. It looks from the picture it may only have 2 or 3 wires which should mean it is ultra simple which I would guess is power and earth, it could all be load related from the column or if there is a third wire then that is possibly a resistance relative to speed which may be controllable via a switch with a couple of resistance values.. . mjrstar
Interesting to see there are a few options other than the MR2 setup..
mjrstar
Can i successfully shorten this? Place your bets now.
flyingbrick
I reckon so. The ends must just be pushed in and bonded? So will ya just cut one off, clean up then re glue in???? Propeller shaft.... Hmmmmn
mjrstar
Hit it with the hacksaw and the end was not resined or glued at all. Just a real fine spline pressed in with a bead of sealant on the very end to stop moisture getting in... Its looking like win so far.. DB8-TypeR
Regarding power steering pump, some model of Citreon has electric power steering pump, they are using one in a Honda Cup Race car build, can see it in this pic: http://iforce.co.nz/i/d4n1dlnc.m3a.jpg

Truenotch
Was this car manual? If so, do you still have the engine and box? We're on the lookout.
