  2. wow i need to do an update. the roof is white!!!! and my gears dont pop out and random times any more. this gear box has sincros in 1st which is amazing and also rather weird after been so used to coming to a complete stop to put it in 1st gear. any way. old 10/5 (mark) mates got married and a mate found a photo and was like how do you know them.... (i didnt) there photo looks rad they must be waving down a car cause it broke down or something... but i done a wedding as well il have to ask Mr West if he can do some stalking and see if he can get photos. turns out he knew the bride after seeing some more photos of my car.... im not going to rob a bank with this car everyone will know its me. any way i bumped into a dude at an auckland os meet. he had his ap5 regal there. got yarning and he was after some parts and i was after one of his hot wires. we exchanged numbers and just last weekend me made out. it kinda went like this. he showed me his bits i showed him mine. (turns out mine is broken. missing as screw in there) then we got really close together. we kinda got just laid next to each other for a while. and he stole some glass toys of mine (a couple of windows) i stole his 14 inch toy. (hot wire) and we now just exchange emails with raunchy photos of heater cores and pipes. now mine is fixed. lucky i hord valiants and slant 6 parts went into the boot of my spare shell which is in front on the good ap5 and looked at this stole its screw put that back in mine yesterday and drove it to work this morning. drove around doing all my pick ups in and and had some sweet smiles and thumbs up. think il just drive this heaps now. my holden is crap. by for now.

  3. started on the sill rust , has a good productive thursday ( had the day off with no kids , grinding all morning then went to work and made some replacement panels) few tricky bits but shouldnt be too bad. this the bottom of the a piller, rusted out from the inside, looks bad but have a plan of how to weld new steel in this part will be welded in to bottom of a piller, made a cut in the bottom of part( the 200x40 cut ) so i can weld from under car (inner side of the inside of A pillar) and also from the inside of the car/foot well(to weld to outer of the inside of A pillar) then will patch the cut.

  6. Going away overseas for a month in less than two weeks so won't be doing any more painting on the ke30 until I'm back, so did some stuff to the Pontiac for a change. Replaced every water hose, new thermostat and a coolant flush. Sadly the chrome water neck I bought was the wrong angle for the radiator hose so couldn't use it. Also replaced the valve covers with shiny ones. Had a nice new chrome edelbrock air filter that also didn't fit so will have to sort that later! New spark plugs and leads. Interiors not quite finished yet. Need to find the right size screws for passenger arm rest and recover the dash, but it's more or less done Went for a drive into town

  8. So I had my first trackday the other weekend at Ruapuna, the car went pretty well other than clutch/gearbox issues. Was having trouble getting it into gear on high RPM shifts and it got progressively worse throughout the day. When I got it home I realised the clutch fluid was below the minimum level so must have been leaking slowly, kicking myself for not thinking to check it at the track! I put it down to the gearbox rather than the clutch not actually disengaging. Couldn't see anywhere that it looked to have been leaking from but I noticed the master cylinder cap was too big so I reckon the fluid may have been sloshing out under hard cornering and braking. Anywho got a proper cap from the wreckers, tightened all the lines and gave it a proper bleed. Quite a bit of air in the lines! So anyway thought I'd fixed those issues but more on that later... Otherwise it was an awesome day, no rain this time so chucked the semi-slicks on and OMG so much grip! It was super fun driving the car flat out and it was holding its own with a lot more powerful cars, think I only got passed twice the whole day. Bought a Gopro so got some videos, haven't bothered trying to pull lap times off them but I was running at a pretty similar pace to my workmates GT86 which had semi-slicks and race pads and who's got much more track experience so pretty happy with that. Vid below from a couple of flying laps: Definitely need to work on my lines and be a bit more ballsy with my braking so still heaps of room for improvement. Few pics from the day:

  9. Carrying on from the above, tune was unlocked through...methods... I bought a W58 getting ready to replace the W55 and glass bead blasted it while I was at a customers servicing the room Drove it to work one day about a month ago and got nearly all the way home. Stopped on the motorway offramp and couldn't get back into gear. Managed to smash into second so drove it home like that and parked it up to get the box out. Clutch slave body and pin had seen better days Then took all the bellhousing bolts off and found no matter what levering I did I couldn't get it to pop off and it seemed to always spring back into place which indicated something was catching the pressure plate. Had Chris/EURON8 around again tonight and decided to holesaw the bellhousing to be able to undo the pressure plate bolts. Got that off and suddenly the box popped off without even levering and found the clutch plates looking like so... This disc was free but had pretty fucked splines This disc however has twisted and locked onto the input shaft. Even some hefty hammering hasn't freed it to allow the pressure plate and this disc to come off. Both clutch discs have cracks and the plates inbetween have some pretty good gouges so need discs and plates at a minimum. Hopefully the flywheel section and pressure plate are salvageable. So likely a bit more money to be spent to get it mobile again! Did buy this lush gearknob in the interim from http://www.nostalgic-grains.com/ Laser engraved Rosewood

  11. Failed a warrant again, minor shizz but the bottom outer ball joint again. Had somehow started to to unscrew itself.. ended up buying a big socket to convert into a square socket, much simpler to tighten.. and easier than the bird shit I made previously. Should have done this right at the beginning, good thing is I can use it for the 929 as it runs the same suspension..

  12. Winter is cold and stuff but luckily I have a heater that works - however warm air only comes into the cabin at over 60k's as the fan ducting was half missing and what was left was full of holes. Original ducting (only 1/4 of what was needed) Humber - in their wisdom - decided the best place for the fan is in the right front guard. Um. Anyway, if it was good enough for the Rootes group I guess i'll keep that for now. Ducting therefore from factory came up into the firewall distributor box and into the cabin from there. Thanks Bunnings. $20 AND It's a proven reliable solution that will last at least three years. (cause it says so on the box eh?) Looked a bit shiny and there's no need for that So a can of matte black, couple of cable ties and close enough. (end to be tidied) Turned it on and it sucked. Literally. Then remembered to reverse the polarity of the fan motor... Ahem. Negative earth now eh... Boom. As good as factory (i.e. pretty average) but job done.

  14. New battery has arrived for a grand total of $32. Battery Bill in Papatoetoe sorted me out. Now to replace all of the blown bulbs and see what happens. Also the drive case has sprung a big oil leak, but nothing a bit of RTV won't fix.

  21. OK so drove is a bit of an exaggeration, but it did move under it's own power... Early start, was out in the shed at 6:00am fortified by the breakfast of champions - cold onion bhajis and coffee... And all fluids added. Was rewarded by a puddle of red stuff as trans overflowed through the vent... And all set to go. the more observant may notice a tube of KY on the shock tower. This wasn't for a congratulatory tug, but to help slide the top radiator hose past the bypass, too much rubber-on-rubber friction going on... And just as all going well, the bloody oil pump drive rod got hooked on the old distributor shaft I was using in the drill to prime the system, and pulled out. There was much swearing as I contemplated the work involved in dropping the sump, but as the clip was still in place, I managed to wriggle and drop the shaft in position after many, many attempts and twice as many rude words. Will be fine, just be a cunt next time I pull the dizzy... I was surprised how much grunt it took to spin the shaft incidentally, spun ok till pressure got up then it was bloody hard (like drill started smoking hard) Think that's why the shaft got stuck. Anyways, then just dropped distributor in, and tried to start it. Nothing. More swear words till I remembered I'd undone the plugs to let me turn motor easier. Quick tighten, connect leads and all go. Ran it for around 30 mins between 2000-3000 rpm, then dropped oil and changed filter. Should be all good to go once I get bonnet and lights back on...

  22. This weekend I got as far as tacking the rust cut on ater remaking the lower half of the headlight bucket. Valance is also back together but my potato couldnt get a good shot after pushing it back into its spot. /*/*/ I went and picked up these or the 125 yesterday from up north, had a good yarn to the seller who is about to get his 125 back on the road. While i was up there I also pickup up another couple of projects : This Rat-leigh 20 (to go with the Mrs' mint Healing Cruiser) from a guy who might also buy a few of my surboards, and this which I found in a pile of rubbish by the road Which is now sorted with new brake pads and a tidy up for some as yet unknown little charger to do some mean skids.

  23. My phone camera seems to be a bit dodgy, but even blurry photos are probably better than none: Pile holes for deck = dug. Look at my bitch. Ain't he fine? He's 6'4" BTW. I'ma keep him Retaining/deck pile posts = in With luck I can start framing out the deck next weekend. It'll probably take about 6 weeks until the deck is laid, but then there will be enough room to start on the framing for the actual cabin. I also need about a million pavers, and to build two sets of stairs... but that can wait a few weeks/months too

  26. there will be a way to get it back on the road. If you are not worried about cert then it doesnt really matter what you put in it- and you can do quite a bit before it becomes scatch-built.

  28. Hi Guys, Rather than hijacking a thread I thought I'd post up here. It all started when I saw this for sale on Facebook whilst drunk: The price was $400. Live plates, 70cc kit, running and driving, rooted lights long exhaust. A mate and I had to have it. We split it $200 each and picked it up. First mod was to put a pod filter on the carb as it was using a bit of Chux cloth and a cable tie for filtration. Unfortunately every bulb in the thing is blown, I've been told by the OSGC's that I should check the battery and grounds first and then replace all the bulbs and see what happens. Wiring and electrics are not my strong suit, but the plan is to get at least the headlight and tail light working. I'm thinking about running just the headlight and a single LED tail light/brake light (Hella or simmilar). I know the Hella lamps are supposed to work on 9 - 33 volts, are there any similar ones that run on 6 volt power? After that all it should need is a number plate bracket and I'll be 2 stroking around in no time.

  29. sorry if being a bit vague but not up with the play on putting an old car back on the rd. I'm happy to get a cert, but I thought if you had done a few things then it would be considered a new build etc, my biggest worry is that I don't have enough info to put it back on the rd. I can't get an ownership paper because the guys dead, I can probably get a statement from the geezers son saying it was his dads etc if it would help. cheers for the help guys.

  32. Hi Clint, I've acquired a new project, its a 36 stewart pick up colonial cab. old guy died and the son gave it to me for free. My question is; How\can I put it back on the rd without too much hassle? It has old black plates on it (ER7165) , nz rego stickers from the early 80's and two original body\build tags on it. My father in law has 3 of them, reckons they came with all sorts of different engines, whatever was available at the time etc. He says I should restore it , put a flathead v8 in it with a toyota box, and that it won't need a cert, is he correct? we think it is set up for a flathead v8. only part that would differ is the gearbox crossmember. (I'm a ticketed welder) heres a link to some photos if it helps, //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/53537-maxpower-1936-stewart-beater-pick-up/ P.s not wanting an expensive flashy hot rod just a cool old pickup Thanks in advance

  36. Discuss Here 1979 dirty 30. Mildly tinkered 4k with 5 speed. Kings in front 2" blocks in rear, some sort of boy racer exhaust that's only just tolerable enough to stay on the car. Impul Hoshinos now with proper fitting 205s, came with stretched pizza cutter rubbish. Also came with free rust and bog. All welded up ready to start making crappy bits shiny. Berroca piss yellow ain't gonna fly Door frames and centre pillar will make a big difference in black so did that last night. Doors don't need to come off again now which is good because I'm sick of that.

  37. really don't like the front screen, theres room to put a bigger one in, on the back of the tray are two old brass framed front screens out of something early i found in the shed where i picked this thing up. I'm thinking i can use two of them to make one good one as they are quite narrow, but have a nice shape. look like model Y ford screens.

  38. The car survived a trip over the port hills last night with no issues at all. I'm starting to like it. Today I spent time working on the drivers side front guard and straightening the front bumper. The guard is coming along nicely but I ran out of wax and grease remover so I'll have to leave it until tomorrow before I do any more work.

  40. Always been curious as to how much this thing weighs so took it to Metalman at lunch and chucked in on their weighbridge... 920kg with 1/3 tank of fuel, pretty happy with that! Supposedly accurate to +/- 20kg so shouldn't be far off the mark. Ruapuna trackday was awesome, update to come...

  41. Thanks to all that attended for such a great turnout. Especially to j.e.d who made the journey from Te Kauwhata and Gnarleydude who traveled all the way from Hamilton! The facebook publicity worked quite well. We had quite a few new faces and cars there and the atmosphere was just as good as it usually is at such events, if not better as people were really making an effort to talk to one another and make introductions. We have gained a few new members and potentially quite a few more cars for future events which is nothing but a good thing.

  43. much fucking around waiting for parts and changing my mind on things has resulted in it still not going yet. however the motor is in the car for permanent (this time round) and the only major bit I'm missing at this point is the intake manifold. so, whats been done? modify and strengthen the gearbox crossmember mount to bring it up to current cert regs head has been hardness tested, cleaned and reassembled with new stem seals. valves re-seated and stage 2 BC cams fitted. powerhouse racing pulley kit ATI harmonic balancer titan adjustable cam gears gates blue cam belt NZ EFI ultra high output coils with built in igniters other things. the block came with no engine number so i thought id better put one on it so i can identify it if i need to for whatever reason. 2016-07-13_05-58-18 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-07-13_08-41-27 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-07-13_08-43-57 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-07-13_08-44-10 by sheepers, on Flickr

  44. 1973 Plymouth Satellite/Roadrunner Performance built mopar 360, pretty biffo little donk, peels out nicely. Console stick shift. Cragar 10 inch at rear with 275s. Haven't done much to this one yet. It has aftermarket race buckets in it, so I sourced some original buckets and recovered them and the rear bench too. Needs minor rust work then full panel and paint as it was painted by lazy American bogsmiths. It's a horrid color so I'm not phased.

  45. got this old bus running again after buttoning up the cooling system, and fitting the tow bar Then backed it out in to the sun for the first time in aaages. leetle bit of rake! will hopefully come down with interior etc installed then proceeded to pull the parts car out of its spot (which is over a bit of a hump and slighlty down hill) with it. YO DAWG! I HEARD YOU LIKE 2300 WAGONS SO...etc I had to get Mrs Azzurro to drive the tow car while I 'steered' the parts wagon (by kicking he wheels, as it has no steering box or steering wheel!) and controlled its forwards momentum with wooden blocks. Seems a shame to put an exhaust on it, but in other news, she said she likes driving it So now its in reach of my air hose and extension cord its dismantling time Unfortunately when emptying the boot out (so i can remove the fuel tank - the one that came in the nautilus has a massive dent in it,) the pane of spare hatch glass smashed lucky i have two more i guess.
