  1. Thought i better start a project thread for my latest toy... Its a 1980 Series 1 RX7 SA22C Brought it off one of my mates who has owned for 6+ years, he had lost interest in the car scene Has barely seen the road in the 6 years that he has owned it..so i plan to changed that Brought the car on Saturday with a non working clutch, luckily we live right next door to each other so just pushed it over.. Washed of the thick layer of dust and gave it a vacuum to see what i was working, over all its in pretty good condition, few little pieces missing but the important parts are there... Found a little bit of rust in the doors and some surface rust in other places but nothing to major... Ended up fixing the clutch on the Sunday, charged the battery and went for a spin last night..reminds me of a hopped up 2 stroke dirt bike (Cars running a 12a J-port) Need to do a few things for a WOF Bleed Brakes Fix some rust Buy some bulbs Hope for the best Discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44345-d1rty6s-1980-rx7-rice-rocket/

  3. ok, been a few days, disconected all the wiring and what not then removed the desk from the cab and of all its wiring, today all the pipe work was removed, she is now an empty shell, ready for some one to win the tender to repair the fibreglass front, (best tender so far is £25k ) have prepped most of the new cab ready for the desk, most of the airlines are in, but need to lift the cab in the air to cut out 2 x 200mm holes on the underside for the air con stuff (as if they need air-con in scotland) had to mod the floor and shit, but she is coming along, still hoping to get the desk back in by friday, but we'll see, kind of waiting on other shit to happen first, no one seems to be in a hurry, i need some earth points welded to the new floor, but the fuckers don't even have some one who can weld ali on site, so it has to be sent out to an engineering firm !!! ffs, useless no floor=no desk= no work to do but i drew a picture of a penis behind the light switch for future generations to find so yeah, might grafitti a random kiwi somewhere as well

  5. Not much has happened lately. Lots of driving including some daily use during some of the crappiest weather we've had for a while. I purchased a non broken wiper switch so I now have wipers! which has been real handy lately. just need to sort some where more permanent for the switch as well as get my blower fans working as fogged up windscreens suck. had been running sweet until it decided to cut out in traffic in the rain on the way home from work and not restart (the one day I got to finish early) resulting being told to move by two stupid Auckland transport workers because I was stopped in a 'no stopping zone'. then having to explain that it had broken down and this was the safest spot I could coast into while waiting for my father to come to tow me home. It ended up being the crank angle sensor and the coil which appear to have given out simultaneously. They were replaced and (touchwood) its been sweet since! and spent some $$$ ^There 15x7 et0 and Ive wrapped them in 195/55s (Massive thanks to KK for bringing them up from wellington for me!) and if you look at the sill, you can see ive got side skirts now. Are VL calais factory skirts but Ive mounted them (incorrectly) as low as I can on the body. I think it flows well from the front lip. aaaaaand came across these at a price that was too good to miss, Genuine BBS RS in 16x7et11 and 16x8et22. Im going to sell the tyres off them and get smaller ones as the 225s are to square on the rear and rub on my guards to much.

  6. Agree about the rb30 being a great motor, BUT you start to run into problems with the ECU. I'm pretty sure Noah ran one on the ark.

  11. left this outside in the rain over night. jumped in it the next day and my feet got wet. I found that there was water pooled in the ribs in the floor pans. and the rear compartment was quite wet too. Luckily it doesnt have carpet in it so I sponged that out. and went hunting for the cause of the leak. Picture so I remember what it looked like. I started removing parts of the dash to get a better look at the point of the leak, and it appears that the little bit of rust that I saw when i was looking at the van under the dash is leaking. So I pulled the rest of the dash out for access for repairs. As you can see Its pretty much all there and is relatively tidy, but still needs a bit of tlc as its all covered in a layer of dust. I dont think its been apart since 1979 due to the amount of dust and general yuckness behind all this. the top of the glove box for example was about a centimeter thick. Ive got a couple of spare bits stashed away that I was saving for the ute, but the vans priority right now as im thinking about flicking the ute to get some funds. (Mexican blanket is on seat because seat is split and worn out) Also, whats the point of a panel van with out showing off the 'entertainment' area It doesnt look very entertaining though does it? Dont worry, that will be changed. All the yuck carpet that is glued to the walls and roof will be removed. Same with the yuck headlining. Too much builders van SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES

  15. Instead of buying things like engines, diffs, things i actually need, I bought these instead. 15x8 -16 and 15x8.5 -23. They are 5x120 so will need to run adaptors, which will hopefully get them to sit where i want them to. Have decided to go NA 1j, then after its running/certed ill chuck some ITBs on.

  16. No need to ask for forgiveness. Yeah its a naming thing, JDM spec Rx-7s were Savanna Rx-7s, the rest of the world just got the straight Mazda Rx7. The difference is that the Savannas were a little bit flasher/had some differences such as: - Fender Mirrors, - 'Savanna Rx-7' badges on the front guards which have 3 pins on them rather than 2 that are on standard 'Mazda Rx-7' badges - Chrome rear number plate lights, rest were just black - see the two stripes above the inner door handles on the door cards, thats the twin chrome piping, it runs across the bottom of the dash, you can see it in your pics either side of the centre console, it will also be on the 3/4 panels either side of the rear seats, this was a savanna interior thing. Theres something else they have but I can't remember. anyway I carjammed your plate, it was imported from Japan in 1990, so it will be. also looks like you have series 3 front seats, wait for Ed to say he wants them or something

  19. oh cool! love hearing local history stuffs. two doors up from there is a little place my father did a reno/mods on some years ago. he's not around any more so nice to be able to see some of his handy work and personal touches from my place! it's such a higgledy piggledy road there must be some more good win/fail stories for some of the houses..

  20. Oh, forgot to mention, that old 2 story house in the last pic across the road with the sky light, I think that was moved there in pieces back in the late 80's from child hood memory, I remember the road being blocked in a similar way to your place while it was being moved ha-ha

  22. so yea got motivated over the last week and a bit and got some work done on my wagon. after looking closer at the engine the frost plugs where looking a bit on the sad side so smashed them out and replaced them today. here are some pictures this is the back one middle one and the front one wasnt far from buggered as well after pulling them out and putting my finger in the moist hole........ i came across these goods floating around in side so i gave the engine a good flush out and hopefully i got rid of most of the crap that was floating around the engine. and now the new frost plugs are in. think i need to put some grease on them, they are to clean. also sent a snap chat to some of my mates for a joke, looked like this (sorry older people who dont know what a snap chat is) found out a guy in nelson slapped a snail on his so il have to ask some more questions about it other than that now time to start steeling parts of my green sedan and order all my brake parts

  23. Might look into welding a softail rear end on. That said I'm still keen to see how it looks when I put lower shocks in the rear. May cut the springs haha Edit: Faaark, the more I look at the pic of it in my kitchen, the more I think the most badass thing to do would be to get a non-chrome swingarm and lengthen it an inch or so. Would effectively lower the rear and get the wheel sitting in the big twin guard better.

  25. Cheers guys, I appreciate all the info/suggestions and comments I'm not a die hard Holden fan (I just love all cars) As for stroking a 304, it's not necessarily what I intend to do, mearly in idea, I'm mechanic by trade so have hookups with machining etc, Turbo'ing it is also something I've considered, however main goal will be getting one in an going first. A 308 hasn't been completely ruled out but it's really at the bottom of the list A 1uz is an awesome engine but it's not for this car,

  26. I have found a car that I'm looking at buying once I get paid out from work. I'd say it would be considered old school, and best of all it's manual. More info when I have it, if I buy it I'll put up a build thread.

  27. Well it runs.. Took me a bit to figure out which wires to short for the neutral switch, and also where the dizzy wire was, puff of blue and of it went. Also a battery that sat in storage since 01 initially held no charge but today for some reason was good. Now the fuel pump doesn't work, gah..

  28. So over the last couple of days got my new Diff in (Toyota Hilux diff with an LSD), old engine and gearbox out. List of what has been done to the motor in the last day *NEW* Water pump Spicket bearing (between crank and gearbox spline) clutch kit (thrust bearing, clutch, pressure plate) cam belt cam belt tensioner got my head re shimmed, to all have a clearance of .3mm (as per cam specs) Monday the engine and gearbox will be going in, then the drive shaft needs to be sent for shortening and convering to a one piece shaft, with a T50 spline end (22 I think) and Hilux end. All good fun!

  31. so, not much in the way of visually obvious progress over the last few weeks, but banking, services, roof, backfilling, drive and carpad things have been happening. gets more sun inside during winter, the ball-o-fire is low enough to come right in to the 'kitchen' which is really nice. photos are 10.30-11 am today. also i now have tetanus on my penis. climbed up the pole that supports the current power supply to the garage to take a photo, it made that nasty sodden rotten wood crumbling/cracking noise.

  32. And FINALLY! I got it running. It's not running right, it won't hold it's idle. It starts to die so I have to stab the gas to keep it from stalling. The carb is probly full of shit. I might throw a rebuild kit at it. I also have to get a different fuel regulator. I must have a high low pressure one. I can't get the fuel pressure below 6.5psi, it should be no higher then 4psi for a bridgeport. Here's a link of the first start up Sorry about the shit quality

  33. I decided to re carpet the boot, and make it look abit more better then factory. Usually the coronas just have a flat piece of foam in the boot floor. So I had to make up a whole new boot lining out of plywood and the carpet it. It wasn't to hard, just made templates out of cardboard . Drew the template onto the wood then just cut it out, pretty straight forward More cutting and making it fit Doing the other side Most done. Just going to mount battery box in the boot, and the fuel pump in the boot. Hopefully the fuel pump won't be to noisy And the finished design I might have to redo carpet. I left a battery sitting on it, and it's flattened out the carpet and it looks abit rough
