  1. Well it runs.. Took me a bit to figure out which wires to short for the neutral switch, and also where the dizzy wire was, puff of blue and of it went. Also a battery that sat in storage since 01 initially held no charge but today for some reason was good. Now the fuel pump doesn't work, gah..

  2. Wow. Been ages since I've done anything to this car. Maybe a record for me? I did clean the windows the other day..still dusty all over from oldschool nats grasskhana. It ran out of warrant couple of weeks ago and passed fine when tested but it's noted that the drivers seat belt is a bit fluffy. I did try melting it but really needs a new webbing. Drove it over to Blenheim last Friday night. Still so fun on hills. Still comfy as in them seats. Loved it. Hannah drove back and pushed me into finally getting sorted for engine swap back to the 2.5. She wants to build it herself and learn so tonight we started on replacing the valve stem seals. Much easier now I have the home made tool for removing the old ones and the other tool for placing the collects easily. Discovered/noticed the heads have 3 angle valve seat grinds. Not sure if factory? looks like the ports have been cleaned up too. Not going to get carried away with it. Just assemble it. 200+bhp will be plenty for now and if we want more in the future once that wagon becomes the daily then I'd like to charge it. Axle would cry anyway. So cold outside and warm in the truck. Cleared the bench and got started on swapping them seals. Cosy..better than cold shed. 3 angles? Might be worth half a medium sized pony. Efforts could have been put into cleaning back the guides. But not for me. Will leave as is. Oh and found a photo of gauges at night that I think looks cool.

  4. Not a lot to say about the cabin right other than it doesnt leak and is awesomely cosy at night when cold and blustery outside. We are just loving it so much out on the land every weekend! The gorse, blackberry and other nastys (Hawthorn- I HATE YOU!) are deminshing at a good rate and more usable land plus other trinkets are appearing in its place. Last weekend we took a 190watt solar panel out and fitted it to the roof with a steel frame that Hannah welded up (good practice) We would have wired it up but the wire I had on a roll really wouldnt be up to the job so that waits till this weekend. Here is Hannah surveying the view from the cabin roof- getting an idea of what our workshop view will be like from the mezzanine floor. When we got there on Sunday morning our neighbour mike had been busy moving plenty of clay and topsoil from the area where the back of the workshop will sit. We now have a nice big pad to build on. He also terraced an area above it and put the topsoil back. This will be where we plant fruit trees and have a vege patch. He will terrace an area above that for a 25,000 litre water tank next. We dont need a tank that size for day to day use as we have lots of springs higher up at the south end of the property feeding us. But the tank is needed for fire safety- we will be fitting a sprinkler system once the shed is up. I dont want to wait for the local volunteer firebrigade to (farmers) to wake up, put their socks on, drive their old landrovers to the station and then try to start their (possibly) Austin Gypsy or Bedford up while my Viva burns away. Pics of dirt for thread... On sunday afternoon we burned things. Getting good at this. Pictured here is a 40ft long Yacht mast mould burning away. It was sitting in the bush next to the driveway. It is (was) mainly plywood and burned so well. It kept me happy through to the evening when I sat there with a beer in hand watching the stars and the moon. We also burned through a load of horrible Hawthorns... On Monday we finished clearing the last bit of this area. We already knew and rescued one Gravely walk behind tractor from the scrub but never realised that there was more treasures in there. See this patch of blackberry... There be treasures in there. So this all means that in the future we will both have to buy some dungrees, straw hats and each have a gravely which to hot up and race around with I see a tiny turbo on mine....

  6. I have the same problem with the autochoke water housing on my Cortina, someone has attempted to remove it, snapped the bolt and Araldited the hole up. Murray at Weber Specialties has them new, so he'd be the man to talk to. Although down in Christchurch, Palmside might be the crowd to see..?

  7. Clocked up a casual 200kms this arvo after giving it new engine and trans oil. Set the tappets too, these things are so awesomely simple to work on. Took the exhaust shields off as they were a bit rattley and theres already too much chrome. Keen for some forward controls and maybe some bigger cams next

  8. I love it. Barely explored it yet so hoping to find something hidden in gully..like a plane, a bunker..or a space saucer. Found evidence that a long time back someone must have been growing tomatoes in the most awkward of areas..

  10. Got my adapter plates back today. Looks mint. Changed design a little and went for a thicker plate. Away for the weekend so might give it a nudge on Sunday night?

  11. Same transformation of Opinion can be achieved by using the slam stick. I drove 10speeds v8 manual ute once. It was a holden but it scared me nontheless. Rain, dark, expensive powerful ute that wasn't mine and that I couldn't afford to fix was the main reason haha. Still not sure if I'd rather a v8 or turbo 6 if I were to get one.

  13. So over the last couple of days got my new Diff in (Toyota Hilux diff with an LSD), old engine and gearbox out. List of what has been done to the motor in the last day *NEW* Water pump Spicket bearing (between crank and gearbox spline) clutch kit (thrust bearing, clutch, pressure plate) cam belt cam belt tensioner got my head re shimmed, to all have a clearance of .3mm (as per cam specs) Monday the engine and gearbox will be going in, then the drive shaft needs to be sent for shortening and convering to a one piece shaft, with a T50 spline end (22 I think) and Hilux end. All good fun!

  14. Parts from Burton Power turned up 6 days after ordering. Was only after gearbox gaskets but the the freight was heaps so had to order pretty bits I didn't really need to make it worth while. I got bearings from Bearing Wholesale in St Johns. Brought a one piece propshaft for TM. Its at Driveshafts in Penrose getting the right end fitted. Job for the week.

  16. Had the last couple of days off work with the manflu and took advantage of the time finishing off the rocker covers.I welded on some an10 fittings for a breather catch can, added my lazer/waterjet cut pieces, these are joined on buy using 1.5mm brass rod tapped through a 1.5mm hole then used loctite retaining compound to hold the pieces together.Sent them off to get the mounts milled down as they pulled a little from welding. When i get them back ill bead blast the outside, paint them VHT wrinkle black then sand the paint of the high bits. discuss here ----> //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36351-toy-mota-1971-toyota-ms65-crown/

  19. Consumption is 11l /100 after calulating the last fuill up, and its showing 9.5 on the trip computer so its a bit confused by the injectors....not bad for the short trips and I have been using a bit of boost here and there. I wanted to install a reverse cam after how useful it was in my triton. To do this properly first I need to up spec from prestige sound to premium to get a colour display in the dash. Audio comes in 3 spec's poverty, prestige, and premium. So popped out to a ford dismantler this morning and brought these Probably could have got away with just the top surround with the larger opening for the screen but I also didn't like the silver ICC surround as it was a bit glarey. Plus the dude did me a sweet deal on it! I won't bore you with the detail of the swap and the comms between the body control module, ICC, and the display. Cue rubbish mobile pics: Before. After..

  20. Well, not quite a major update, but this one does involve squid, as promised. It's languished in the corner of the shed under a thick layer of dust for far too long, but I've been keeping a surreptitious eye on Yahoo for various bits and pieces to buy and keep aside for when I finally restart the project. A few days ago a set of tidy door cards were listed, so I requested the services of Alex @ MLR to secure them for me. Boom! The fronts on squid are a bit worse for wear - the map pockets are missing and the trim has screw holes from where someone's carelessly mounted a pair of ugly box speakers. Next step is to try and secure some replacement boot carpet from a guy wrecking a HR30 sedan in Australia, and then the interior should be complete, save for the construction of my custom gauge panel and repairing the tear in the driver's seat. Lastly I also need to save up for another FJ20ET dizzy to rebuild and then convert into a crank angle sensor to drive the Link G4. They are readily available from YAJ, but are expensive even in unrestored form. Discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/21738-orions-dr30-wedges/ And a photo or two to keep myself enamoured:

  21. Update time since its raining outside and cosy inside. Hmmmmm woodburners. Two weekends ago we finished building a shower cubicle because as nice as it was to shower under the stars its getting cold now and last time the wind kept blowing the pilot light out in the califont. The new cubicle is basic and was cheap. Treated decking for the floor, stainless shower tray bought local on trademe for $2.50 The walls are free pine packing stuff. Yes- over time they will rot but it might take bloody ages so for now they will do. The iron roof was left over from the cabin. I made a little decking pathway that goes from the veranda around to the shower and then fitted a $5 ceder frame window so we can look out at the Kanukas while showering. The whole thing can be liftted easily by two people with the iron roof removed. Wow- what a revelation having a cosy sheltered shower room. We made a little bench in there too and it has plenty of room to easily change in. Is this the first shower photographed for OS?... A few weekends sgo we went and chatted to our neighbour about some land works. He not only owns two diggers but also has his own quarry on his land. Very very handy. So when we turned up last weekend he had already set to work and scrapped away all the squishy mud on our second little driveway and the park area. He then filled it in with large rocks. This he has started to cover with smaller stone. He then terraced away the bank where we want to park the truck. The clay he took out has built up the area opposite and created a move smoother larger area while making the corner wider. This will get hardstanding too. Next on the list is to sort out the two steeper bits on the main driveway and the main entrance. It was so awesomely epic for us to turn up on the friday night not having known that he had started the earthworks already and discover hardstanding. With the amount of rain recently the driveway has been too slippy for anything 2wd and was just going to get ruined. Luckily the main drive has had hardstanding down already so will mainly receive more cover without scrapeing needed. That same weekend after sorting the shower we finally moved the kitchen bench into the cabin. This stainless bench had been recovered from the bush where it was overgrown with blackberry. Its now much handier to our needs. We celebrated its fitting by placing a 4 burner LPG hob next to it- kindly given to us by VivaGT from this forum. Cheers Andre!!! Much better than using our little camp stove! I also added some Rimu rails to the bed edge has Hannah was not sleeping well constantly thinking she might fall out of the bed onto the woodburner. Sleep easy Hannah. This weekend we mainly spent scrub cutting more gorse. Sooooo very satifying seeing the gorse and blackberry go and finding natives growing up. The grass below is good and healthy so come spring we will buy some Tordon and selectively spray anything that pops up again. As I cut Hannah burned. Heaps of it. It was a big fire that kept us warm as we worked into the darkness on both Sat and Sunday night with headtorches. Then the full moon would apear and it was so lush out there. Bonfires and beer = great! We have cleared almost all the way south along the high track which runs paralell to the main drive to where the cabin will eventually reside. It's a sweet spot surrounded by bush. The previous owner had that track graded in and levelled off a great site so we quite thrilled about this. Meanwhile Kevin just chilled whenever and wherever possible... So this morning we left and headed back to Nelson. Raining. We had prefect weather out there.

  25. Got the wheels on Bluey and dropped er' down a wee bit. Might have taken a wee bit too much off the front springs, is pretty much on the bump stops. And just under 100mm clearance, but aaah! The Po-po should love it anyway! Back height could go a little lower, for the meantime I've just got a few 25L containers in the boot to drop it down a little.. A few piccys. Hope their not too big.
