Those cracks are in a place that you could repair them, as they are seem to be with in the frost plug holes and and that fitting, a block seal would take care of them or you could weld them with a nickel rod, they cant really spread

Yeah I understand that.  But I would just prefer to start with a none cracked block

Back in the 80s dad worked at a place that owned a fleet of 6cyl holden utes. (Dad reckons they were unreliable trash,) one of them had a 202 black motor that threw a rod/punched a hole in the block. 

They found some clever welding outfit who glued the block back together. (I would presume the bore would have needed a sleeve)

I brazed a hole up from a rod once, it has broken a bit off the bottom where the cylinder hung down into the crank cake but its still running

I do need some spot lights

I’ve got a good pair of chrome Lucas spotties you can have for postage, they’re the type that mount off a bumper. If you’re interested I can get a pic.

It's done now, but how fast did you run the drill when honing the block? 

Everyone seems to go too fast, which results in a too horizontal  hone pattern. (Verses the 60° hone pattern which is ideal) If you watch a video of a Sunnen honing machine in action, the rotational speed compared to the up and down motion is a lot slower than the your average drill at full jandal. 

A pneumatic drill with the reg turned right down is a great way to sustain a lower honing speed

I don't go fast at all mate and slow up and done...

Think this is actually the 15th block I've done at home so far

Battery drill works nice and slow for me. Old lower voltage one has a lower base speed than the late 18V jobbies.

Yeah it is an old as fuck drill I use just for that.
