Thphantum Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Registering interest as a backup support vehicle. Is this route achievable in a standard Hilux or would something more capable be required? 3 1 Quote

Mof Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 @Thphantum This is Old Man Range from 2.15 onwards. I'm already thinking just two backup vehicles will get left far behind the bikes, and not just on this track. Imo I don't think we need more support vehicles, but if you and/or other 4wd people are keen to do this trip then maybe we can set something up. For maybe like Easter 2024? 1 1 Quote
NickJ Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Day one took me 3 days at a leisurely pace, wouldn’t be stopping much to enjoy the views. Bit far out to confirm dates but if i’m free I’d happily drive that route 1 Quote

Tumeke Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 hey @RUNAMUCK you considered spreading this over 4 days? 1 1 Quote
RUNAMUCK Posted April 17, 2023 Author Posted April 17, 2023 I'm just the spokesperson. @Mof completed this ride solo in three days at easter past. So its doable? Quote
Tumeke Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 @Mof has the luxury of living in the same Island eh. Just thought it might be nice to not be rushed / go too fast. Think if I go it might be time to grab a DRZ400. I'd be the slowest on a CT and don't like holding up the group. As you were. 1 Quote

A drz400 isn't really in the spirit of the ride As long as you can maintain 75kph+ on the open sections you'll be fine. Through the tough stuff even the slowest bike is faster than the 4wds Quote
Mof Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 The brief I had was for 3 days, and a roof over head for the night. Unfortunately there's not much options for accommodation, especially for a big group. If you all don't mind camping, carrying camping gear like I did, we can definitely make it 4 days. Carrying your own food, or increase the cost and bbq twice erry day 1 2 Quote
Mof Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I'll do some calculations and mapping tonight and see what I can come up with 1 Quote

RUNAMUCK Posted April 18, 2023 Author Posted April 18, 2023 I was talking to a guy on a ride on Sunday who reckoned going up the rock steps on small bikes would be easier than going down them. (Hes been down them) 1 Quote

RUNAMUCK Posted April 18, 2023 Author Posted April 18, 2023 Put some knobblys on the Hornet! Same ride on Sunday a guy had a CBR250 on road tyres. He dropped it like 9 times in the mud. 1 Quote

governorsam Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Gn250. Did the first ride on one. remember Bart “saying next year max 185cc” - then looks in my direction ~ “ unless it’s a GN250, because that is a definition of adventure riding. taking small/shit bikes where they have no right to be” or something along those lines.
