EEL BIRD Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I am genuinely keen for this ride, will be keen to chip in with anyone heading down from the north island. Might even build a Honda for the occasion or just punish the hell out of the old two smoker again. 3 Quote
EpochNZ Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Could a YB100 be a suitable candidate for such an adventure? (Asking for a friend) 3 Quote

(Asking for a friend) @Mof has done the ride so he's the expert, but typically if you can handle fuel range of ~200km and a cruising speed on seal of 75-80km/h then you'll be fine for these rides. EpochNZ Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Okay, will put fat tyres on it as part of the rebuild then. 2 1 Quote

(Asking for a friend) I weigh 125kg, and the Suzuki A100 has taken me up and down some pretty gnarly shit with extra fuel and luggage. Just don't run those old school tyres with solid lines for tread patterns! 1 1 Quote

Whoopeecock Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Marcus Drake rode a YB100 for Day 2 of the Marlborough Melee, up Mt Patriach and the Maungatapu. It did better than the Monkey with knobblies Quote

EpochNZ Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 As a beginner, I'm picking my arse and bike may not be up to doing the whole thing.....So I'm thinking I'll stop of at Cromwell on the way down and stay with my cousin (married the Publicans Daughter at Bannbockburn), then catch up again in Ranfurly for the ride home. On the day off I'll go walk the Poolburn Gorge section of the rail train (in from Lauder) if I can feel my legs. 3 Quote
RUNAMUCK Posted August 8, 2023 Author Posted August 8, 2023 You say that now, but you wont want it to end when you're there..... 2 Quote
RUNAMUCK Posted August 8, 2023 Author Posted August 8, 2023 Yes you're tired by the end. But you'll have bugs in your teeth from smiling so much.... Quote
