you would think being an alu motor that the bore size difference wouldn't account for that much extra weight - maybe it's the difference in DI cylinder heads or something like that. Dual VVTi vs single VVTi? who knows

Ah…. Challenges.  Big challenges.

Old fashioned pushrod V6s and V8s are amazingly compact.  Modern DOHC multi-valve ones though are mostly very bulky at the top-end. Winged sumps are a PITA…..

You can also look to go remote oil filter, probably worth adding an oil cooler as well.

Is the oil filter built into the sump?

Front/custom sump maybe the way to go. Could you 3d print a sump and then get sheet metal etc to weld one up?

is this one different from yours?

Actually how different is the bolt pattern on the sump if you wanted to run it backwards, (could always modify the pickup)

Modify or use and adapter to run the sump as a front instead of a rear?

I like this, jumping right in there firewall cutting and all.

I've never driven the 2.5 but the 3.5 is such a good engine, always surprises me how it can haul a reasonably big car along. What does an '08 GS350 weigh?

Googles...apparently 1700kg-ish! Man, remove about 800 of those and you're onto a winner!

So will make some engine mounts, get it in the right place then start drawing up a sump.

What filament are you gonna print the sump with? Carbon moooshed overtop of it?

I feel like they fucked up with that ebay listing, that sump looks identical to Dave's one.

I've been toying with making an adapter for my 1uz to run one of these SR20 pans https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/other/listing/3995918987

Yeah think the ebay listing is wrong. Also don't BMW use plastic sumps

Man pretty decent sized donk these things. The big boy 3500 with throttles and 300+hp would be pretty sweet NA if you want more beans later.

Anyway I don't know shit about them but went briefly looking, this dude jammed one into a mx83 which in the scheme of things is similar to the Carina. His IS350 engine looks to have a real deal front sump but I could not find the corresponding front sump in parts diagrams and gave up. Can probably dig it up and buy one new the mid sump one on Amayama is like $300 for the alloy part.

OK he says in that thread somewhere the front sump is FWD, seems like theres a couple FWD sumps one is front and one kinda blobs into the middle. Anyway find the sump he has.

Yeah the difference though is that a 4GR is a $650 engine and a 2GR is a $4000 engine as best I can tell.

I've got a scheme for the sump. Should be sweet.
