Ghostchips
Laser ignition improves efficiency. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2015/02/princeton-optronics-laser-ignition-boost-ices-efficiency-27/#more-1008890 I wonder what engine was igniting 27% badly. Would be keen to get used laser ignition systems from car wrecks and fit them to oldschool cars for something to try, but what happens if they are using focused fiber and oil fouling happens? Guess single beams could fouling off but a single beam becoming unfocused sounds like a way to melt holes in pistons.
h4nd
The editing bit for blog.com seems to have been down for a day or so... am I doing it wrong? http://blog.com/wp-login.php ? edit: it's back.
flyingbrick
I'm guessing the laser won't be epic enough to blast holes through pistons etc. That'd be cool though! Get a flat tire and realize its because one of ur leads has come loose and laser is escaping in wheels direction
Steelies
TECH FACT: according to my Usborne book of the future, powerful lasers will become standard issue on the battlefield, some time between 1991 and 2000.

Steelies
'79 i believe. i was lucky enough to have a stack of those sweet books, super bikes was rad. and actually learnded up some good stuffs/history.
HighLUX
So people putting bike crabs on 2L all seem to use R1 or similar 40mm spec. All fine and dandy for a 4 cyl but for a 6cyl will they be too large? Go for something 38mm or just roll 6 R1 carbs and jet to suit I duno what im on about tbh
Goat
Just think, If you could run the 6 cyl on 40 or 45 DCOEs then R1 carbs will be rad. Will give top end dorts. Though if you are running 40's then you could havs as small as 32mm chokes. Are R1 carbs actually 40mm? or are they choked down?
igor
If it's a 2 ltr six then I guess it would be over carbed but if it was in the order of 3 ltr then six times whatever carb you would put four of on a 2 ltr four would seem to be about right would it not? peteretep
they arent choked down, they use the venturi slider as the choke. I think my R1 carbs are 42mm, the same as my R1 engined jet ski throttle bodies
HighLUX
I duno anything about bike carbs except sweet dorts. Will go to the bike wreckers sometime and see what they have. Getting 6 of them to link up might be an issue or find 2 sets off a big 3cyl and use that type of setup Gotta see if my idea for the ignition related part of the puzzle will work first though

Not that far wrong actually. I believe they now use lasers to shoot down missiles from battle ships
Yowzer
Most targeting systems are laser based, although it's still the missile that does the damage. So they're half correct.
flyingbrick
I saw it on discovery http://nypost.com/2014/02/17/navy-deploying-star-wars-weapons-on-battleships/ And there's lots more info on google. The vid I saw showed it shooting down a missile. Edit. Look holy crap http://www.wired.com/2013/04/laser-warfare-system/
h4nd
Laser cost about $40 million. Guess they should have painted the drone silver. $
