What about like an earlier scooby like a leone which has 2wd-4wd? If the front half shafts were dispenced with, it could be 0wd-rwd. (Even though I just sold my leone of this nature)

i think the main concern with converting a fulltime 4x4 type vehicle was the possibility of messing up how the car drives, so something that is designed to drive in 2 or 4 wheel drive wouldnt be an issue i would think

Dear Clint,

Whats the deal with welding for cert?

Who has to weld what?

What has to be welded in MIG, TIG ??

As a Full time welder in paid employment can i do everything myself?

Regards,

Chris

theres only a few things that need to be TIG welded and crack tested, parts considered "critical function components" ie brake caliper brackets, front suspension arms etc

chassis/engine mounts/body etc can all be mig welded. you dont have to be a ticketed welder, if you can weld properly youll be fine. the rule book says welds must be done by a ticketed welder OR someone who has demonstrated to the certifier they can weld. i have seen a few ticketed welders do shocking birdpoo welds on cars because they are used to glueing 6mm plate together all day and are quite good at blowing holes in 1mm sheetmetal

hi Clint,

just further on this, I am essentially looking at something like this setup (just different engine/box of similar configuration)

http://www.turbo124.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7342

what he has done there is bin the front diff and CVs. full time 4wd vehicle. Crossmember, steering and suspension will stay more or less as it was. Do you see any imediate issues just from looking at it?

Also what do you suggest for sealing off the hubs where the CV went in?

thanks heaps

hey Clint,

got a question about my escort panelvan.im thinking about cutting floor to run effectively a exhaust tunnel to allow it to be as low as as possible,im running a pinto so would be along drivers side(right beside driveshaft tunnel),and then out in front *of back*wheel running through the sill, like eleanor in gone in 60 seconds.is there any issues with this idea??

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey Clint/ others I've got a question for you.

ok so here goes.

I just bought a 88 turbo cefiro. I took it for a wof today and the guys wrote this.

"Supply LVV cert for: Driveshaft hanger bearing, All Intake mods Inc Structure"

It has a cut 'n' shut front facing plenum, and a front mount intercooler. The cooler piping does go through the inner guard under the battery and the same on the other side. 75mm ish diameter hole.

I also had to cut out some of the bumper iron in the middle for the kit/ cooler.

The hanger bearing is completely factory

What I want to know is weather hes right in failing me on this and how I can sort it.

Can supply pics of setup if you want...

Thanks, Adam

as long as you arent removing any strength/hacking thru chassis rails then that would be ok

bear in mind its hard to pass a noise test with a short exhaust like that because of a lack of room for mufflers

ive tested a couple of those mustang replicas and they all end up with restrictor plates/ extra packing to get them to pass

Whats the deal with cert for seats? Is it if mounts match factory= No cert needed? Or do you only need to cert when the mounts differ from factory?

if the seats bolt on to original mounts in the floor then no cert needed, if the seat belt buckle is off the floor. if the buckle bolts to the seat frame then it would need cert.
