cletus
some stuff needs to be welded by a ticketed welder and crack tested but its only parts considered "critical" eg brake caliper brackets, loaded suspension arms etc. engine mounts and things like that are ok to be welded by joe bloggs as long as the welds are ok
KKtrips
To run airbags it says thety must not operate when the vehicle is moving - is having a relay operated off the handbrake light enough or does there have to be some speed sensitive switch? Also any idea on what crack testing would cost for welded struts and suspension arms like these below? Is a magnaflux check enough or do they need to be x-rayed? KKtrips
ah yeth - I did not see that.. I wonder what I would be able to use with a mechanically operated speedo in a manual transmission....
cletus
you could use a relay to just make the system work when the engines not running eg a switching relay off the + side of the coil cant remember how much crack testing costs, depends where you get it done i spose. magnaflux is fine usually
karmagedon
2 things : 1) number plates - is there an exact law that states dimensions a plate has to be? 2) what is the law in regards to headlights? Ie those repco "driving lights", can I use them in place of my factory lights? Thanks for any help
Simon
2 things :1) number plates - is there an exact law that states dimensions a plate has to be? Yes, those set by the NZTA. It is illegal to have any numberplate on a car that is not issued by the NZTA. I have tried for a stick on one for the MR2. Even if it's reflective and in the same font... they say no. Guest
Fun fact: You do not require a front numberplate for a Wof, only rear
KKtrips
Funner fact - you do not require a number plate at all for a WOF if you can prove the vehicles identification - it is not a safety item so therefore it is a matter governed by the police.. kind of like not having a rego - you don't need rego for a WOF either.. Just like you do not require a seat for a WOF - only if it is fitted does it have to be safe and secure.. But any WOF place with common sense should refuse to check a car for a WOF presented in this state..
Raizer
An over zealous WOF man failed my old Legacy for the front plate not being in the stock location once (but he was just a cunt who failed me on a whole list of stupid shit that were not WOF issues)
JoKer
I passed a few with no plate on my leggy for shits and giggles
BS5620
needing to modify an escort x-member to fit into my cortina. Stated slotting holes and old mounts have got messy. Now have figured I need to mount x-member a tad further back so have drilled out the welds to remove old mounting brackets. I plan to get new tidy ones made up that fits. Will this be ok for a cert?? My engine mounts are off the chassis rails so not attached to the engine x-member!! Cheers
Testament
I'm not sure if I asked this earlier/somewhere else - Is it possible/required to have removed ABS certed? does it amke any difference if the car was available with and without ABS from new in NZ? MrMcdoll
What's the deal with half cages (a roll over bar with 2 back stays) in 1) a bolt in situation 2) a weld in do they need to be homologated or certed? I head that bolt in ones are fine as is.
zep
I have a welded in 1/2 cage with main hoop, 2 back stays, harness bar, an X between the back stays, and side intrusion bars from about 300mm up the main hoop to the bottom of the A pillar. Only needed certing, no homologation.
