  1. long time no thread.. had the inspector around today and he said this shit's legit, compliance cert on the way! so first things first, thanks to all you GCs who pitched in on this, some from OS and some not. you all flat out refused payment, so i owe ya bigtime. I was packing my undies this morning, being a house rookie. then the inspector walked up the driveway with his father christmas beard, introduced himself as Barry, and i thought sheeeeit haha and he was all good - comments included 'put the bloody smoke alarm up', 'its different', 'i did the one down the road', and 'waste of a good drill press for the letterbox' so here are some pics of how it stands today, complete with unfinished stuff, dirty dishes and whatever.

  8. bit of both.. some overengineering for durability of the container, and for a veranda that just about matches the floor area of the house.. which i didn't see as being as valuable as it turned out to be. dry washing and bikes year round! keen to add some shizz to stop a bit of sideways rain oh yeah, and storm water control for consent.

  11. Being a 1990, in my mind it's not quite old enough for a full build thread. So in other projects it goes. I've brought a 1990 Bmw 320i for cheap to use as my daily. The last 2 owners are both members on here but a thread hasn't been made for it. Going through all the receipts, there has been a fair amount of work on this including swapping out the auto for a manual. New clutch at that time too! I've already managed to fix the heater fan going on full speed only, (resistor pack inside the heater box) which actually has an access panel on the firewall. Also by cleaning out the switch the passenger window now operates. Pics Tell me what a fool I am.

  12. my friend George built that van. he's got a whole bunch of electric things that he's made over the years. he made his first electric car in about 1974 and he made the whole thing, chassis, body, the lot. he is also mildly insane.

  19. Ever since I was a pimply faced, 18 year old, screech, I've had a dream of getting a bmw into what is the worlds biggest bmw mag, Performance BMW UK. Fast forward through about 5 or 6 bmws later, and I flicked my build thread through to the mag, not expecting much. I almost shat myself with excitement when I got quite an enthused reply from the editor. The main problem she was worried with, was, who would do the photos? I excitingly replied, as I had just the guy. In steps our favourite krump dancing, banana spinning, camera snapping gentleman, Richy. On the day of the shoot, Richy boots me out of bed to get that golden shower of light out in Pohangina, and after some hatchback carting for the rolling shots by Waggy tail times, and some skids from Cam, we were complete. Thanks Richy, me ol' pal. Boy oh boy it took some time for the magazines to finally get here, but I tied my hands behind my back and resisted from downloading a copy, so that for the first time, I could turn the pages just like I imagined as a little shitbag. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/29495-sparkles-bmw-of-supermega-happy-hell-yes/

  20. greg has done an amazing job on the seats and carpets. im super happy with how its come out. he's still got the back seats and the head rests (the one in the picture hasn't been done yet) to do and he'll drop them in to me on wednesday night. the front seats are so so so good. I'm really amazed at how good it looks!! can't recommend Greg and his team at Midnight Upholstery highly enough, super high quality work that really shows his skills, thanks Greg!!!!!!!! 2016-05-28_04-25-07 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-05-28_04-25-16 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-05-28_04-25-34 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-05-28_04-25-43 by sheepers, on Flickr

  23. You are overthinking this whole thing, just use what it has (ITBs) and make a plenum. You can bang up a plenum out of steel if needed, nicer (but less DIY friendly) obviously out of alloy. Job done.

  29. Ha ha nah I didn't drive it, it was hemorrhaging oil and none of the gauges were working so I managed enough restraint to push it back in the garage and wait till i get those things sorted. I will put up a video of I can figure out how rotate it, stupid phone keeps rotating it to the side. Sounds pretty good though

  30. Ok so have been finishing up a few of the little jobs while I waiting to get the last big pieces. Bought a flywheel cover off J.E.D (via trademe) probably paid too much but they don't seem to come up that often. Had to make a small modification to make it fit but it's on now, As I mentioned earlier I got the p/s pump fitted, here's proof Modified the shifter, it's pretty ugly but it works, got all the trim back on looks good and the shifter pretty much came out in the factory position. As mentioned the exhaust is a bit quiet. Chucked a 20" rim on to see how it looked, I like it but the tyre is way too big/it's hard against the spring perch on the strut Took the car outside and gave it a wash as it hadn't been washed since January, And lastly I let my impatience get the better of me, as of late it's been misfiring and coughing a bit, likely from the plugs fouling because of all the short running times the engine has operated in due to the lack of cooling system (just running up in the garage for testing a few things etc) I looped the heater hoses, put the radiator hoses on, filled an bled the cooling system and took the car for a hoon around my local area. Cough cough "To erm clean the plugs" Such a blast to be able to drive it after all the work I've put in so far. Makes a great noise, louder than expected, pulls cleanly, backfires a bit of you get get on an off the gas while cruising, It did however breakdown within about 200m of home, luckily it just turned out to be the coil to dizzy HT lead had fallen off the coil, slapped it back on and back in business Will post a video shortly when photobucket stops sucking dick

  41. you would want the fuel return to come back to the tank preferably away from the fuel pump pickup to give the returned fuel enough time to mix with the rest of the fuel and dissipate some heat. Many people have found if the fuel return comes back into a surge tank or really close to the fuel pump pickup that the fuel gets super-heated.

  42. So I've got the engine and front suspension back in and have been going over all the little half finished bits and sorting them as I go. The engine and gearbox went in easy already assembled together and with cross members already attached from underneath. Front suspension went in after that as a whole unit too. It only took an hour to get everything back in by myself and I pretty much forgot to take any pictures as I went...

  44. ALLLLLLLLLLLll RIGHT Consider water blasting engine bay A Great Success. Painted some degreaser stuff on Wednesday, figures crossed weather was going to be not raining Thursday. It wasn't, So woop, the blasting commenced. Its amazing how much difference such a simple act can make. For the first time ever I found a chassis number for the car haha Anyway, spent yesterday Fixing Nikis daily, so didn't get very far on this. Managed to drop the steering box and idler out of the car, so I can paint hat stuff gloss black. Then proceeded to paint the chassis with a light coat un under body seal in a can. Maybe not the most best or showy stuff to use, but I like the matt colour and it sprays really nice and controlled. Might try get another cost on it today. Then I can look at getting motor in next week. Sunglasses.pdf Oh And I pulled my brake master cylinder apart for rebuilding. BEFORE Middle Inner gaurds I am going to paint with satin black, probably out of a can as setting up a spray gun is more fucking around than its worth. This aint no Sheepers / Snoozin Build. Oh Brake master cylinder insides for fun'

  46. Well engine went back in with ease. But soon discovered that the turbo actuator has about 1mm of clearance from the steering rack and rear engine mount hahaha Any who stoked that its mostly correct... and can easy remedy it but lifting the turbo higher by 15mm. It also looks like i need to get the compressor housing outlet port cut and re welded on a different angle... just so the intake tract can be simplified. Other then that minty fresh!! Ran all new brake lines front to rear and and installed a larger 23mm master cylinder. Looks like my old 22mm cylinder was funked...

  47. Myself and Sentra Dave spent some time getting some data on ID1000s tonight. This was interesting because it's the first time I've measured some injectors which actually do come with some reliable deadtime info. For better or worse my results were very similar to the provided figures, we were running a slightly different pressure compared to listed data though. Unfortunately we found that the Link G4 does not appear to have a minimum pulsewdith setting, or a short pulsewidth adder table, so some of the extra lengths we went to by running lots of tests could have perhaps been streamlined a bit. (Sorry to chew up your afternoon Dave...) It was still interesting though and good to rule out the injector behaviour as contributing to idle issues etc. Also the injector behaviour was pretty good anyway. They were clocking in at 938cc @ 39psi / 13.6 volts. Nice and linear down to about 2-2.2ms but below that you really need the PW adder table as there's quite an agressive "knee" and then it drops off pretty quickly. This gives me some confidence that my method is pretty good, and it will work well in other cases when injectors are being used where accurate deadtime information just simply isnt available.
