  1. So Im not quite starting off with a GN250, but arguably just as shit a GN400 This is it, in all its grossness, but under all the crap........ hopefully will come something looking abit like this by Holiday Customs. Dannys very boring looking W650 will be looking alot more aggressive, with slam stance and balloon tires....... We've actually had both bikes for alittle while now, mine is currently striped to frame only (after mocking up wire wheels with drums front and rear, looks ten times better already) and taking it to a strippers today. Dannys is coming along alot faster being a newer running clean doner, he's just put a set of firestone on and currently setting up the ride height Have a bunch of photos of the progess that ill drip feed in over the next week or so Cheers

  2. 10mins worth of work, could still do with a bit of shaping but very easy to do, just cut the top off with a 1mm blade then twisted wire brush on grinder then flap disc.. couldn't be easier cheers fellaz.. just need to add custom dirt..

  3. 1-1/4" seems to be about industry standard from what I've seen. I take your point but I don't think it looks overkill and it'll get me started. Just had my new mikuni carb kit turn up from the states. Took a week and it's lush. Came with manuals, extra jets, manifold, K&N filter, throttle cable and lowbrow customs catalogues. It even came in a lush box that looks like something Manu would send his christmas presents in

  6. Well fuck, I can build 2 bikes in the space of one car and it means I can focus on style and fabrication more than just endless sanding and painting.

  8. Is 1 1/4" a bit hefty for frame work unless it's going on a big rear tyre type frame ? My old Honda chop was 1 1/8" for all but the centre downtube that had the upper rear engine mount on.

  13. Some of you may know of my desire to get away from building cars and build custom bikes instead. Today I won an auction for these at an awesome price! 1-1/4" and 1-1/2". Just what I needed! Will fabricate up a bender and I'll be good to go. These forming dies for a proper pull-bender cost a fortune new. Next step will be a frame jig once I've made some more workshop space.

  14. Didn't quite get engine running this weekend but got close. Heaps of stupid shit slowed progress right down like Mazdas silly sized tiny water temp sender in block, sidedraft manifold fouling on emission block off plate, no faster shops open so endless sifting through bolt/nut collection for shit to make work. Also why does Repco have no listings for rad hoses, had to buy some other ones and cut which is no biggie just annoying! Very last two things to do before startup/troubleshooting are: 1. Hook up vacuum from inlet manifold to dizzy (needs an adaptor made as manifold vacuum oulet is hooge) 2. Suss out coil/dizzy wiring setup Any-ways enough excuses,. here is where the week of working on engine stand/engine has ended me: PS. making hoses using AN fittings & braided line is pretty damn easy and fun. My recommended new way of doing lines.

  16. discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44424-hulses-1973-616rx2-discussion/ ended up swapping this for my 13bt starlet. always wanted an rx2 so this is the second best thing a 616 conversion. looks the part and its certed so not worried! old owner had owned it for 5ish years, brought it from wellington when it was lime green on modgies with a 12a. since then it has been sprayed matt black (primer) and had done a 13b turbo conversion on it. then motor blew up on dyno so I ended up with it rolling body.. plans are: 13bpp panel/paint - gloss black black racepros tidy black factory interior 14' mods with 195/45s suspension/brake upgrade diff/gearbox upgrade etc.. heres a couple pics when previous owner had it now comes the start of the build.. got it home, sold the rims, seats and have been slowly getting been getting little pieces together for it. stripped interior etc now started working slowly few pics will update within next few days.. pics give rough idea on whats been done in last 2 weeks

  17. It's the finishing details that take the most amount of effort. Been a big week but making good progress Mounted new oldschool looking tachometer. Definitely going to be seeing 8k frequently!! Gear lever boot all sorted. Looks nice and tidy and keeps the wind on the outside! New catch can and breather hoses I slapped together tonight Spare tyre mounted - nick did a super nice job with this one Restored toolbox is a perfect place for the tow rope!

  19. Na its been made to look like a RS2000, the 3 centre gauges have been retro fitted by cutting holes in the face. The Tacho gauge style doesn't match the speedo, you can see the centre needles are red not orange, and the centre gauge is vacuum (rs2000 is oil pressure)someones done a very tidy job though don't get me wrong Oh and the carb is all cleaned, and reassembled. got the bimetal working perfect on the choke butterflies, tested it with a heat gun. and I picked up a new diaphragm off trademe. Still not sure about the return fuel line though, I think im going to continue to run without. And plans are to soda blast the carb and manifold before refitting

  23. Took a wheel down to be trial fitted today, with pretty tasty results Not a bad fit at all, I may not even need to run flares if I buy a camber kit for the front as the rears tuck by another 1/2", give or take. Pretty happy with that! Biggest problem is sourcing tires, 145/70's are mostly cheap chinese shit off trademe and there are only 4 165/60's left in the country, and I cant afford them at the moment, and I sure as hell won't be paying nearly $400 for shipping from the UK for 4 tires! More than what they're worth. Falken NZ have no plans to get anymore in as theyre such an uncommon tyre and no one else makes anything in that size, Yokohama NZ are saying the same thing. Bit of a conundrum.

  25. Discussion Here I couldnt turn this deal down. I drove past this car parked on the side of the road for about a year and always loved it. Drove past it last Thursday and it had a bit of cardboard in the window, turned around and came back and sure enough it was a for sale sign. Got a pretty decent price on it IMO. Have never specifically wanted an old corolla but its tidy and would be a pretty ideal car for the Mrs so I grabbed it. Now I own an actual oldschool worthy car haha. Has done 88,000 miles. 3K Manual. No rust anywhere obvious except for the sill in front of the drivers door that has been repaired. Interior is getting close to mint. Has a small crack in the dash, the rear seats and carpet look brand new. Front seats have a couple of very small rips. Just need to start searching hard for parts. If anyone knows where to get internal door pull handles, the tray that goes under the dash and a drivers door card in blue then please let me know! Plan to keep it stock and keep tidying it up. Pics:

  31. Just went down to local shop that sells carpet and vinyl. More like a variety store than carpet store. Just found the thickness/shaped/flexible carpet I wanted to use. Cheers Yeah wasn't really a fan on the rims personally. Rather modgies for a start and see what happens once its done etc. Yeah not too sure whats going on. Just going off what I was told from the guy that I brought it off.. Will see how good it works when car is running. Think it must be S4 then, looks to be flat mounted from what I can remember. Will double check tonight. Cheers

  32. 2 nights of careful painfully slow welding and grinding and i have a warpfree panel in place. Welded it on the inside as its a flat surface compared to the channel on the outside, this made for easier grinding. Hit it with the flap disk, quite stoked with the result. Patience paid off. Will give it a coat of 2k primer and a skim of nuetech tomorrow welded from the inside Outside

  33. A weekend of progress! IMG_9539 by Richard Opie, on Flickr Diff fit tested, all the links fit up without drama and it moves freely throughout the full range of movement. IMG_9510 by Richard Opie, on Flickr I between times, I acquired some platforms and springs for the rear. Springs are typical 65mm ID coils, length of 180mm and 200lb/in spring rate. IMG_9550 by Richard Opie, on Flickr The axles returned from the engineers with fresh new splines cut and have also been induction hardened to hopefully negate any chance of munching up splines due to the mighty torque produced by a 4AGE. IMG_9578 by Richard Opie, on Flickr With help again from the masterful sheepers and his magical machine that glues metal together, the next task was to create somewhere for the spring platforms to live on top of the diff housing. This shot shows the rough platform tacked in place so we could work out the right angle to mount it on the diff, due to the movement of the diff being in an arc as opposed to simply up and down. If the platform is angled too far forwards or backwards you run the risk of the threaded section clashing with the coil. IMG_9604 by Richard Opie, on Flickr After much trial and error (which is boring and not worth taking photos of), the mount location was finalised and the mounts welded into position for good. Side bracing ensures they're solid as hell and up to certifier satisfaction. I will point out here I couldn't have done this without the help of sheepers, being able to chop pieces up with an angle grinder isn't conducive to finishing a project within a project like this and without the welding and lateral thinking skills of the man with many Toyota's I'd still be sitting around talking about doing this. IMG_9588 by Richard Opie, on Flickr IMG_9586 by Richard Opie, on Flickr Final couple of shots show roughly the final ride height, the diff is resting on the jack with the weight of the car on it, with the wheel centers in line with the ends of the diff. Not super low, but I'm happy. Easily able to go lower with a simple spring change. Next up - reconditioning the brake calipers, acid dip and painting of diff housing and setting up the LSD in the carrier again for final assembly!

  35. Converted from cable to electric speedo, in order to get it to read more accurate. It's easier to adjust a digital signal, than make a gearbox for the speedo cable or whatever is required. Waiting on Jaycar to get the speedo adjustment kit in stock though... They had bloody well better hurry up! currently works great, but it's hilariously inaccurate (reads 180kph when doing 100) I also spent some time cleaning the garage floor...
