I'm not a whiz but keep in mind some of those cheaper multi function machines only have dc Tig so are not great for welding alloy.

lol reckon, the fastest way to turning, want to learn how to tig, to yeah nah fuck this, its a pain in the ass and i'll just go back to point n shoot

It's a pretty good price just to use the mig part.

Price and machine are good value for sure. It would just suck buying that thinking your gonna stack dimes in alloy and find out thats not the case.

I'm mildly intrigued,  has anyone here attempted some mad prep on aluminum then DC tig welded it? 

I have an ac dc machine so appreciate the cleaning effect from AC. But yeah interested to see some real life DC results on aluminum... not that I'm intending on trying it myself.

Had a look. Runs for 15 seconds at idle before powering off. Powers off instantly if I strike an arc.

12 of the inverter mosfets are shorted, so probably that.....

 

Need to check a couple bits to figure out why, but $15 for a dozen replacements

I am after a new tig welder I have narrowed it down to strata or excel arc . I have never used either any ideas which direction I should be heading.

mainly stainless work but was thinking of AC/DC machine
