yoeddynz
Could you cover it in concrete to hold it together then cut with saw, repeat as needed to sort of turn it into more solid like stuff for shaping. If you know what I mean.
Unclejake
^ don't forget that absolutely everything (except for water, but including electricity) needs to travel on my back for 4 minutes of steep, muddy and slippery climb. Concrete is one of the least pleasant things to carry (even in nice dry bags), but I get what you mean. I'll chisel at the rock a bit later. I've got enough to do to keep me busy until December without starting on the stairs
yetchh
Is pretty easy doing steps.. the lower you go the less you have to kango out. *edit.. it's when you have restricted access it gets hard.. took me 1 1/2 days to break out the equivalent water volume of 50 liters of basalt for a water rez..
yoeddynz
Ahhh yes... good point. I forgot about that hill thing. Its the same issue for us once we start building on the ridge. I want to avoid anything concrete/heavy/awkward at all costs. Or build a 4wd farm ute/bike thingee. But your land is too steep for anything vehicle like Iirc? Employ Egyptian workers. They can shift rock.
Corbie
crane/helicopter etc... rock stairs: I would suggest using a concrete drill / chisel combination
danger
I'm prepared to come offer free consultation on the stairs
Popular Post Unclejake
I decided against the stairs, mainly because CBF. Next there's some paving to do, and after that I better actually build the cabin I guess.

SiRge
You can buy stair runners from Mitre 10 etc, I literally put a set of stairs up in about 15 mins. More than happy to help you get a sharp price if you need it
Unclejake
Ha. Thanks for that but the issue was not timber runners. It was the prospect of chiselling out another cubic metre of rock to form the main entrance way. I decided on an indirect nature walk instead. It'll be delightful. I have a couple of other sets of stairs to build once the pavers are down, but they will use native runners and treads as I have some demo timber to use up
Willdat?
UJ - I'm sure you've talked about your concealed fixing fixation at some point, but what did you choose for this?
Unclejake
After much deliberation I went with visible stainless steel screws for both this cabin deck and the deck at home... and I am SO GLAD I did as I've needed to pull up boards on both decks over the course of the last year or so. I chose a Simpson Strongtie hardwood to softwood screw, but that was largely to do with the shape of the head which is personal preference. Getting them all in a straight line helped make the visible screws look OK. I'd never do anything but a simple vertically fixed screw for a deck now. They cost more and take longer than nails, but they are much better at staying put and give you the luxury of being able to lift or replace a board with minimal fuss.

Popular Post Unclejake
This cabin is taking forever to finish. I try to work on it every weekend, but it's taking a while. In good news there's two lots of paving down, two sets of stairs finished, about 600 baby trees moved into bags, and I've started on the cabin frame. It might be weathertight in December? Dunno. It's fun though!!!
kyteler
Lol'd at padlocked door... ...wooden, with exposed screw hinges. Undo 6 screw or pry hinges out of ply. Neat. Still, well done nd all that, yada yada, have a beer and drive a lexus.
