Beaver
Longer wires means more resistanc. Hence reading fullervand why why a variablevresistor makes it worse.
felixx
Use fatter wires?
yoeddynz
Longer wires means more resistanc. Hence reading fullervand why why a variablevresistor makes it worse. Yeah me thinks so. It works opposite to the temp gauge which worked a treat with a VR. Felix- I might just try that.. some nice multistrand thicker wire that will give all the little men who carry the lightening bolts more room to run. coldturkey
Yeah it sounds like it's just some kind of voltage divider, so what you really need to do is increase the resistance on the other side of the divider. That's going to be easier than decreasing resistance on the sense side. Edit: still, seems strange that a few ohms of cable can make such a difference. I wonder how they tuned them from the factory. Testament
they probably didn't ?
coldturkey
Perhaps, but what I mean is that the tolerances of the components and wires etc they used from factory must have been pretty tight if a couple of longer wires makes it read incorrectly. Rookie
This ^ is what I would assume, all the looms would be the same so just make sure the resistance is right once and then never think about it again.
Nominal
In electrical terms, a few more cm of copper wire is going to make SFA difference to the overall resistance of the wire, provided that it is properly connected to the original wiring. yoeddynz
Maybe a bad solder joint on my behalf?. I added about 600mm of wire to the new gauge location. Quite coarse strand wire. Will have a fiddle when I get back from tramping.

77magnum13hundy
i now know what you mean about the steering wheel facing inwards a bit. Didn't notice till i fitted a racing wheel... draws you into the centre of the car instead of straight ahead from the seat...
