stop being a knob sheapers.

there are plenty of cases where people have had there cars certed recently with specs outside that chart by eithr A) providing manufacture specs (they do exist) that say they are OK or B) the cert dude being a GC and using common sense.

Like who? Ive only heard of a bunch of people having the same problem as Sheepers

maybe some was a better choice of word. I recall a thread on here where people were talking about which tyres had decent width ranges (from the manufacturer) etc and a number a people popped up saying "I just had these tyres certed on these wheels etc"

i hope it has been introduced to.give them grounds to reject dodgy stz but being so prescriptive is dumb. Should have just written a clause...tyre fitment to be in accordance with manufacturers guidelines

up until about 6 months ago you could get a letter from a reputable tyre dealer if you were outside the spec and that would be OK for the cert guys.

now that is not the case.

i know this because Ive certed my car twice in the last year, it was legal with the rear tyre/rim size first time round but it ain't now.

the certifier can "turn a blind eye" to something that is just outside the spec if they so choose.

but your insurance company wont. the first thing they do when you put in a claim is look for ways to get out of paying. and if your tyres are wrong then your fucked.

and thats what it all boils down to, you might get through cert and warrant and police giving you the once over but at the end of the day unless your sticking exactly to the (fucking ridiculous) tyre size guide your fucked.

a manufacturers tyre size recommendation trumps the lvvta size chart thing

ie if a manufacturer says on a proper size chart, that a specific brand and model of tyre in 195/50/15 can go on a 8'' rim then thats fine, if we supply a copy of the chart.

we used to be able to supply a letter from a reputable tyre fitter, but obviously everyone just abused that and got thier mate at the tyre shop to say a 145 was sweet on a 10 inch rim

that tyre size chart, lvvta got a bunch of lists of manufacturers minimum and maximum tyre sizes and chose the most stretched/balloonspec fitments, and stuck them on the list. not all tyre sizes are on there.

ive tried to find on the interweb some different brands of tyres that have manufacturer specs saying they can go on wider rims- mostly for 15x8 rims cause thats a problem, tyre shops sell them and fit 195/50/15 which IMO fits fine and is perfectly safe, and can actually fit under a car that the wheels are designed for- but i havnt been able to find fuck all.I am going to look at a car tomorrow with some 205/something/15s hankooks which are designed to go on an 8'' rim apparently.

yea yea, thats what i was getting at, the lvvta list is fucking spastic, but now you can't get any tyre manufacturers recommendations that fall out side of it.

chicen and egg, like i was saying about my mate in the tyre business, all of a sudden all the tyre manufacturers spec sheets changed and now we're fucked.

the very thing you say, a sensible size tyre on a sensible rim is now illegal. especially in 15". so now you've got to run 17's just so you can have some hope of getting some cool looking dish and still be able to get a tyre that will fit in the arch.

and like you and i have said many times Clint, we have both seen drift cars with 205 40's on 11" wide rims go sideways over curbs at great speed and the car didn't spontaneously explode in a ball of flames.

so clearly our eyes have malfunctioned in some way.

its all arse. but in a way we bought it on ourselves. "my mate works at a tyre shop, has done for 3 months, ill get him to sign the letter i wrote........"

So, failed on tyre stretch (195/45/15 on 8s, and 175/50/15 on 7s). Too much rear camber. And car below scrub line (chassis is 50mm off the ground). Basically I have to raise the car up until I can get rid of the camber in order to pass as my car doesn't have any camber adjustment at all. Most probably have to bring it up to almost factory height. Retarded but there's nothing I can do about it.

i got a question. i got to replac emy windscreen and was wondering wat do i have to do in terms of changin over my wof sticker??

Escort boy- once you have yr new windscreen and the old sticker doesnt survive- they usually dont- just go to a VTNZ and get a replacement sticker. they will look it up and the new sticker will still run out at the same date as the old one.

Mate has just bought an AE86. On the cert plate already attached, the Suspension/Axle category states "LWRD SUSPN/305mm F 320mm R +OR- 5%"

Does this mean that it's certified to run platform adjustable coilovers at all? The vehicle currently just has a standard strut/shock combo.

I'm picking not.

He's picking he can get away with it.
