I sure J5 has asked it before, but now its my turn.

How legal is this kinda carryon? http://offroadingsubarus.com/6stud_conversion.html

Theres no way my brumby is going to get a cert so it must be wofable or i wont bother.

"LVV Certification is always required for any hub or axle-related modifications unless specified below:

- Diff Ratio Changes (in existing housing)

- Axle housing replacement (direct bolt-in only).

im looking at bias pedal boxes for my escort, is there anything I need to watch out for when buying one with regards to welds etc? having a balance bar is OK for a road car? will the car have to recerted?

yes, yes and yes.

one commonly available escort pedal box has a welded box section pedal which is no good for cert purposes. might be better to look at a wilwood or tilton type pedal box.

if you are putting injection on your engine, it would be a good time to recert it when you have done all of it

So I bought a driveshaft loop but I've just realised I have two dirty big resonators in the way. Thusly:

What's a boy to do?

Shit's goan get messy innit.

the loop doesnt have to be round- could you make it flat cross the bottom to clear the mufflers?

Quick question about engine swaps and head swaps.

1) If i put a 20v 4a into a smallport 92 does it NEED to be cert as the power output is not above 20% and its a 4a engine?

2) if above does need a cert if i replace the 16v head with a 20v head, and change the pistons would that be better as its the original 4a block.

Confused as we did a 20v swap into a 92 and the WOF guy said he needed a cert unless he just did a head swap.

A WOF guy saying something, doesn't make it correct.

20% rule applies to modifications of the current engine, nothing to do with a new engine. Swapped in engine needs to make the same or less power than the one it replaces. So you're out of luck there too.

Here is the list for replacement engines, you have to meet all of them, not just some.

  • when compared with the OE engine, the replacement engine:

– is of the same or less cubic capacity, and

– has equal or less weight, and

– has the same or less power output, and

– uses the same fuel (petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG), and

– uses the same unmodified attachment points and system (ie bolts-in), and

– uses the same family of block and cylinder head from the same vehicle manufacturer, and

– is of the same configuration.

But 4age 16v smallport vs silvertop 20v isn't over the 20%.

Ltsa favours Honda. Makes it hard for the rest of us. They can drop a b18c in with no cert into a eg sir, yet us Toyota fans are screwed. Its a outrage.

My brother in law took his eg to get cert in Auckland where he lives and the guy said he didn't need as same engine family. Yet asked the same about the 82 and he said i needed a cert. Its just biased. makes it hard to support Toyota.

I don't agree with it, 4 extra valves should not mean a cert. going to the gze should tho.

Cheers for the answers guys.
