  1. Here is Ian, my very recently acquired 1980 Nissan Civilian bus. This is going to be our family camper, somehow we will fit four of us in.... There are a few minor issues; some rust, the charging circuit doesn't really work, the gearchange mech is kind of sloppy, there is a short in one of the rear lights, but the major issue is that the standing height inside is a maximum 1.5m. This is unfortunate as I am 1.92m tall. Even my youngest who is 10 cannot stand up in it. Some fairly major surgery will be required to rectify this unfortunate circumstance. There are a few other niggling things to sort out, but nothing important. He is pretty sound though, he drove from Mataura near Gore up to Nelson with no issues apart from the batteries dying from lack of charge. It got a pretty good going over today and i am happy overall. Carjam shows the odo to be dodgy as fuck, but even allowing for that it has probably only done 100,000k. It is indicating 60k... The drive along the south island was achieved pretty much 50/50 by the previous owner and then by Sidewaysickness, who had way more battery issue than the previous owner did during the first leg, but finally got it here late last night. Discuss Anyway, pics;

  2. I think it's a good looking bus. Other than the charging issue it gave me it's pretty sound mechanically. I can confirm a few things on it. First and second gear are very well matched to get that thing up to 50k. I laughed when a Tiida decided to take the outside lane at the lights, along with about 4 other cars but then got out launched by some shitty bus. Tests have proven that it will do skids on gravel. Tests have also proven that it can and will go off the clock (indicated 125 kph). This is on flat ground too! Tests have also proven that if you drive for hours at night you need a survival suit to keep warm. But I'm sure some insulation and lining will block up a lot of the draughty holes.

So I have had the brokest summer of my life and done nothing to this wee girl So today I pumped up the tyres and started her up How odd, the alternator did its thing for the 15 miles of driving I did in her When I drive her in warmer weather she doesnt charge at all. 4. So was wasting time on the interwebs the other and ended up buying this cheap: Then when I turn up to pick it up the GC I bought it from says "you want this?" So naturally after spending ages yarning in the dark and the rain, I loaded them both up and bought them home. I intend to build the black one up for a nice cruiser and ride around nice flat Mosgiel. Got stuck in today and this happened: I pulled everything down and cleaned everything down leaving it on the fence to dry... Couple more cool old details: So basically I have cleaned it down and I am going to steel wool it and clear coat it leaving it to look as is... Yeaboi!

  7. I've been re-hosting the pictures on the HAMB, so that should be OK: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/cheatin-the-reaper.1011157/page-4#post-11554503 I can't explain what's happening with the pics. All of the settings on Rods'N'Sods seem OK. Failing all that, just follow the build on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mk1gasser/?ref=bookmarks

  9. Checked out the frame serial and as best as I can find it was manufactured 1953, which also matches the serial on the Sturmey Archer hub. The bike is older than both my parents, Lewlz!

  12. Plan to have my scooter flywheel lightened at some point, if I can't manage to find an inner rotor ignition to suit it. Normally you'd machine the flywheel rather than drill holes.

  16. lots of written off stuff from Oz making their way to NZ. Very minor flood damage results in a statutory write off which can not go back on the roads in Aus.. ship them to NZ where the NZ govt has no idea about the cars history and then register them there.

  18. If you are spending that money get something you can adjust the vacuum advance, change stops and the springs, Then tune with a knock sensor and you will get the most out of the motor. Use a q-jet also.

  19. So this is now in basically as many peices as it can be, have taken all the small bits to work and used the bead blaster. A lot of the chrome bits were rusted so they will now be painted with Hammerite Black, frame was sanded and primed along with the guards. P1040842 by Andrew, on Flickr P1040841 by Andrew, on Flickr P1040843 by Andrew, on Flickr P1040844 by Andrew, on Flickr So need to grab a couple cans of colour for the frame and and paint the guards white then start putting it back together. I would like to get some wide rims, new tyres, lower rear shocks and a nice exhaust but finances are a little tight so will see what happens

  20. If you get a Farm Source Supercard, you'll only be paying the equivalent of 3.69 l/100 km. 10% more smug.

  22. Small update. Have been slowly stripping bits off, taking them to work and bead blasting them. Have panel beaten the front guard with a claw hammer and broom handle and gotten most of the dents out. Leaves it looking quite naked: IMG_20160505_212433 by Andrew, on Flickr Also had my order from webike japan show up today (was sent from Japan 4 days ago!) 23. Really? Have you got a place down there like I used that is an AA purely for licencing and registration? Not part of a workshop or anything just a office. The ladies here didnt even mention an inspection, just told me "no speeding" and laughed when I told them I probably couldnt if I tried Even better, its B8EER

  26. So the previous owner Jones came down to visit with his family and spent the time running around in the Snipe, his eldest son cried when they had to leave it behind.... Jones painted the bonnet for me and made some executive decisions around the styling, ie removing the granny trims from the wheels to make it a bit more ratty. I like it, it is a bit less nana spec;

  29. BOOM ! After an extremely painful experience the car has been painted . unfortunately not quite end of paint saga tho . they didn't mask up door jams propley so over spray was all in my door jams and on some of the side doors were they meet .... And on inside of bonnet.. Oh and boot fuck sake. So off it all came to respray it all for a 2nd time Used up every last drop of paint and finished up at 4am today with just enough time to drive home n mate to shower n back to Aussie he goes . he is the fuckn man may I say the least. Anyhow I'm shattered like fuck will get a bit of paint Monday so they can fix their overspray cut n polish then cars off to get an exhaust made then WOF. I'll let the pictures do the talking . they don't call him "glass master Adam" for nothing

  30. Hey guys 2 weeks since I've updated this haha haven't been doing nothing . Been re assembling everything . Managed to sus out the loom so can turn over using key now . Picked up a nardi steering wheel off another os member . The muppet I got the bosskit of todsy which I was told "it'll def fit" doesn't . The horn bits don't line up will need another . Just put it on to check it out.. I'll be taking it to get polished to remove some light scratches in the chrome at some stage but ok foe now I no my dash is cracked n fucked .. I really wanna get it upholstered but some of the bottom of the dash has cracked so I won't be doing it until I get the missing bits I need and also a new lower dash section but that can wait. It's annoying me how it's cracked .. ohwell time will get me a better condition one . I'm after a w50 shifter if anyone has one lying around since mine is bent to fuck !! New toyo t1rs 225/40/r14 to replace the super stretched 185/50/r14s currently on the rears .. means I got 2 spares for the front now choooice Will get them taken off bead n re assemble when I can . Have borrowed a guard roller but need tyres on before I make a start on it. Even tho the clock is showing 420 n I'd love to keep it that way I will be removing that and replace with a 4" smiths rev tacho at some stage . Not a priority tho Used plastidip satin black for behind grill makes easy removal if ever needed . Also gave my headlight surrounds and bonnet hinges a lick of satin black to complete the look Panel beater coming to look tomorrow .. if anyone knows any panel beaters keen on some work PM me thanks. And finally I have a lot of spares . I will be keeping all panels and glass . I have pretty much full 2nd set of interior plastic . Rt100 dash . Couple cracks tho .. n shit loads of other rt100/104 stuff if you need anything pm me i may have it. Only parting with OS members as I no the troubles it can be sourcing it all. Made up a new radiator overflow out of 6 mm copper . I wouldn't mind making all my washer lines out of 6 mm copper aswell it would look pretty cool in my opinion . Need 2 grab some new 40 mm hose clamps for radiator hoses and a new battery for her n I can do some tests make sure my lights etc are working let car warm up to temp might even go for a drive up the road Thanks for looking
