  1. So on the weekend we hauled this car up to the tauranga clubmans rally. Both of us having never competed in any gravel events and not having given the car a good run, we thought it would be a good chance to do a lot of learning before daybreaker as the rally was aimed at novices. Hauled the car up on sat. Did documentation and didn't have to do scrutineering luckily as we got it scrutineered before the back track day last weekend. They had a display of the cars etc so we had it parked up. Seeded 49 out of 50. Yeah!! Was a very cold and frosty morning so plenty to be careful about. Nick jumped in the drivers seat for stage 1 which was a real nice road and got up to speed quickly getting used to the car and me getting used to reading the road book notes. Stage 2 we switched driving. Had an issue on start line with no battery/starter motor. Roll started it and got into the stage. Was a fast flowing stage which suited me perfectly and slowly got into the groove. Within the first two stages we had encountered everything from the novice drivers briefing/rally license test. Came across so many crashes, one which happened just in front of us so we had to stop and make sure they were ok etc. Some of the places where people were crashing was just stupid, obviously just pushing way too hard. We didn't have that problem at our pace! Servicing after stage 2. Alternator wiring plug had come loose. Cable tie to the rescue and we had charge back in the battery. So just kept it running for the rest of the day. About 75% through stage 3 it started losing power, having to use 3rd gear to go up a slight hill. Pushed on through though. Stage 4 was very open and fast but missing was getting worse, not being able to go over 80kmh in stage. Got some sweet pics of no power skids in stage 4 Struggled with losing power in stage 5 and 6 until about half way through it came to a stop. Lost all compression essentially. Compression test showed up all except #2 having no compression and the spark plugs had melted. The only way to finish the day; All up it was an awesome experience. We learnt heaps about the time cards, what to do in every situatio and got a handle for the car. Also we were both happy with both of our driving and road reading. The suspension is awesome and has so much grip so can't wait the to get the engine rebuilt and take on daybreaker! 3. writing a price/lowest price/contact deets for everyone's stuff will be key. if I'm on the stand, someone wants your stuff, 'get what you can for it' will result in $1 sale.

  8. This isn't mine but I think It's relevant to this thread. I helped my neighbour bring his new Ransomes crawled and implements home today. The crawler is MINT and runs like a clock. I spent a good part of the afternoon taking my kids for rides up the drive, road verge, and foot path. I'll do some more on mine at some stage.

  9. Small update, well a big one really. Pictures speak for themselves! Fits in there really nicely, did not even have too many problems. Just need to sort out all the little things but getting there! Big ups to Camel for coming over and giving me a hand to get the old engine out and the V8 installed in one day. Nice work! XY steering box fitted up. Needed bit of a trim to the box and slight tap to the body. It fits in quite well. Had dramas with the drill bit catching the crush tube on the only hole that needed to be drilled but got it sorted in the end thankfully! After the steering box was bolted up, the engine and gearbox went in nicely. Just need to sort a few things to finish it off. The starter motor I have doesn't fit and the engine cross member brace doesn't either, so have to get those this week. Lots of other small things to figure out but its all simple stuff.

  10. Cheers man, Danny sold the blue GS to a mate of ours called Black White Tony, It had some coil issues that are now sorted and running really good, He's resprayed in white and "aged" it back and is going to put some vintage looking Castrol oil decals on it, should look really good when its all done, and nice that its stayed in the same circle of mates. His GSX750 with the 1200 banbit motor was crached heaverly at manfeild a couple of months back, will up load some photos at some stage, guy riding it is all good stuffed his hands because of poor choose in gloves! but as a result, he now owns that bike. He's a good mate of our and is working on getting it rebuild, fixable but needs quite alot. Guess its good that that bike is still inthe circle aswell. just not the nicess way to go about it haha And Ive still got the bobber, not selling that anytime soon, this new build is just more of a daily, long/er haul bike. can never have too many ay. Anyways some more photos of mine from when i picked it up Sweet non personalised plate 4THE Cock! teh guy bare metaled the tank, but then covered it in some shit, then tryed to clean "the shit" off, now everything is covered in some sticky crap, and it on EVERYTHING!!! Grouse! Even with JUST removing that seat, its ten times better now to just get rid of those gross mags was having heaps of trouble trying to start the bloody thing, then noticed that evrything is covered in the "shit". you can see the build up of chain grease Starting taking the rear wheel off and noticed something abit odd Someone has lost the rear wheel spacer, so found what ever shit they had around, a big arse nut, and ran that. only problem is it fucks the rubber bearing seal......nice plus look at those spocket bolt lockers! It sat like this for a couple of weeks while i sorted the DX out with rust issues for its wof, Im back on it now and will up load some more of where im up to now Line up at work, boss loves this shit haha Cheers

  11. Oh sweet Brad may have to take you up on that offer. Guna get new (old) 4k and probably start from scratch. Nick took head off tonight, hole in piston and valve and cracked head. Bugger. Now to learn about how to build a sweet 4k in the next month before daybreaker.. not quite sure how we will make it happen but won't be cutting any corners

  13. disco - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/41785-mrs-sparkles-kp61-toyota-starlet-sprint/?hl=starlet Evening everyone. I've noticed this old thing for a few years now, as lives on the same street as us. Would often watch it being reversed up the driveway whilst we were out for a stroll. I was driving home the other day, turned onto our street, and slammed the picks on when I realised it was for sale. On the for sale sign it mentioned "offers...". Here we go, I thought, this could either be very good, or, very bad. I in turn talked to the daughter of, granddaughter of and owner of, about the car over a couple of calls. A incredibly reasonable price was offered before Cam and I shot down for a look. The car seemed pretty tidy, nice and straight, but with a bit of fading, and a couple small spots of rust. I handed over the offered price, very happily, and drove it home - down the end of the street! We're only the second owners of the vehicle, the first being the 84 year old lady that we brought it off, and has lived (and is living) on our street since brand new. Jo has dubbed it "Betty". Plans are to give it a damn good polish (might drive to Auckland eh Alister), and maybe throw a set of 2nd hand lowering springs at it when some pop up on trademe or similar. Would like to say a smaller set of tyres on the pointies, but, since I have a brand new set of the same sized tyres - probably not! 20. rubbing my hands together with anticipation to see what you make of this. Those wire wheels made a huge difference to the look. I like the Kawasaki cast wheels, but only the Kawasaki cast wheels in that 70s era (Suzuki, Yammy, Honda all look pooze.)

  26. ripped out the smokey but reliable 1608 and 4 speed this weekend with some help from EURON8 on saturday. we managed to pull the 1608 and get the 2L and 5 speed in the hole in an afternoon. Engine bay is just to short longways for it to fit easily. Today ive spent most of my time dodging showers, but managed to fill the big hole with metal, and make a solid dent in the list of things needing connected up. All going well shoud be running by next weekend ive got a few bits still to pull off the 1608: - ajdustable cam wheels - oil filter sandwich plate for guage Things i already need, - 2l secondaries - my 1608 ones are jammed up on the underside of the floor as the 2L is about 15mm taller. Good excuse to make some.

  28. ^ yeah im enjoying your build thread, will be good when we have all these bikes finished, will have to T-up a ride. Right so, Im not a fan of mag wheels, the bobber/ Kawasaki wheels im living with, there not toooo bad as far as mags go. But these Suzuki mags are yuck as fuck! Over the years weve become really good mates with the guys at Boyle Kawasaki in wellington, they have help us out a shit tonne, and are always will to help us out. So when i told the guys what i was wanting to build and said i needed some wire wheels, Regan at Boyles got real into the idea as he has a similar idea for a build of his as well, but instead of just doing a swap for wire wheels with disc he hooked me up with an early GN250 with drum brake front and rear. One crashed GN250 I did some measuring a realised that the plan of just swapping the fork lowers over wasnt going to work as the fork tubes were smaller on the 250 So as he said, whats better than one dragon?..............Two dragons! haha This one had straight forks and true rims, but misses a few bits that the other one had Some more messuring and it was looking good for a complete front end swap, forks streerer everything another good thing about the GN250 forks is they are already abit shorter, which will help with lowering as the 400 forks were so long i was worried they wouldnt lower nicely Fronts swapped, I didnt want the gn250s but they didnt want them not rolling hence the total swap BAM! Stoked!

  29. eventually i got sick of the bonnet scoop, so i got a panel/paint guy i know to sort it out. it was meant to be ready for a combined photoshoot me and the gf were getting for our cars, long story short it ended up with a matt black bonnet for a couple of months and the guy who did it charged me a decent amount over what he quoted. have to admit he did a great job though. i actually liked it with the matt black bonnet, was definitely not the end result i was looking for though so much cleaner without the crappy bonnet scoop!!! gf's RA28 in the background, those who toyota together???
