ajg193
A bit of googling seems to indicate a fair few manufacturers are making transmissions that are extremely difficult to drain these days
Alfashark
Probably from the same voices in his head that tell him that anything less than max factory height is a mortal sin. Wet-clutch DSG units require a fluid change every 60,000km and have a very clearly documented drain/refill setup. Dry-clutch DSGs were designed as a filled for life unit, but received the wrong oil from the factory - global recall and refill via the drain and refill ports... kws
Stupidly, the ZF box in my BMW is meant to be serviced, ZF say, and it has drain and fill ports and ZF makes instructions on how to do it. BMW deemed they knew better, and marked it as "lifetime filled". My diff doesn't have a drain hole, once again because lifetime fluid. mjrstar
Zf in falcon has no drain plug either so you get covered in oil when you remove the pan.. does at least have fill plug though.
M.H.
Even the old 4 speed btr in the falcons didn't have drain bungs, was a messy job when I did the oil in mine Alot of new cars don't have a drain bung on the sump, oil gets sucked out
RUNAMUCK
BMW do that. Suck the oil out through the dip tube. The stories I hear from a mate at a BMW stealership they're ready for scrap before long anyway.
tortron
700r4 no drain plug. Get the apprentice to do it I added a drain bung to mine. Do try it

Very messy. Mercedes sucks the oil out at the dealership, but they still have drain bungs. Probably quicker to suck it out than to remove all the bloody under trays. Anyway drained a litre out of my transmission and it is mint. I understand the filters don't require replacing but its a filter I can change so I will, I do it to all my customers' cars to preserve a possible huge expense at the magic transmission specialist. (most of the transmissions we've had doomed by specialists that are still driving around many years later is suspicious) Also this one was the first I've seen with an internal fabric filter like an air filter, was perfectly clean but that's the point, making it stay that way.

ajg193
Seeing how that is pretty much all for shit british shit cars, shouldn't it just say "Any oil is better than no oil"?
a.craw4d
Can anyone recommend a brake caliper slide grease please? Have read I needs to be silicon base as oil base doesn't like the rubber boots. Have only found little sachets of it at supercheap.

I would just use normal high temp grease as alot of things with grease in them have rubber seals.

Different kind of rubbers. The seals in brake calipers will expand and deform with regular grease. BNT does a bottle of caliper grease, can't recall what it's called but it's in a green and white pot. Otherwise synthetic rubber grease like Fuchs works fine too.
Yowzer
Oh it's the same as what's in that tiny packet. Just in a 250ml pot. This one is probably what you're after. BNT should be able to get it https://www.permatex.com/products/lubricants/specialty-lubricants-brakes/permatex-silicone-ceramic-extreme-brake-parts-lubricant/
