I forgot to take a photo but not only did the sink drain but the wood burner emptied it's ashes for us whilst also snapping two legs off so it's lighter to carry. The drawers also emptied themselves of everything and the leisure battery decided that it wanted to be at the back of the cabin. All in all a very quick and thorough reorganisation of everything. So the plan was to un-hitch the cabin and gently swing it around till it was lined up where we wanted it. Then we would ease downhill using chocks to go bit by bit. But as soon as we swung it around it decided it just wanted to roll and there was no way we were going to stop it! So we had to get our neighbour's mighty 4wd tractor to pull it back up. Amazingly apart from the two broken burner legs there was no damage! It's now locked in position and almost perfect level. Will make new larger veranda to suit new the permanent placment but workshop build is next. Will try uploading more photos at work 'cause nerdnet at campground is crap. BIG THANKS goes out to Shane (sidewayssickness) and his dad Tony for helping us move our shed out to the land on Saturday! Would not have done it without you. I'll do a proper update since the nerdnet seems to be playing ball and allowing me to upload photos right now.  oooo- the last few weeks have been hectic to say the least.  Our neighbour had done a good job skimming the top of the pad level with help of a laser level we hired. Trenches dug but a bit too deep. We had to back fill them and needed fill and we needed to make some steps up to the vege (currently dirt) garden Two birds one stone...   After all that dealing with a stupid engineer in auckland who was going against all other advice and not wanting to be helpful when it came to us wanting to use forta ferro rather than steel for crack prevention... well in the end we went with steel because he was going to draw the process out for ages. Laying out, wiring together and setting steel mesh is a prick of a job and my back did not thank me. But by Wednesday night two weeks ago I had it already for the council inspector. He liked what he saw and gave us the tick to go ahead with the pour. 6.30 am Saturday morning we had the first concrete truck arrive. I started to finally relax at a rate proportional to the concrete going in. Once the last load was poured I went down to the coast in the concrete truck where there was cell phone reception and paid the bill. I had previously worked the concrete cost to $4000. It cost $4050. I was pretty chuffed with that.  Truck driver dropped me back home and then Hannah and I sat in the shade of the Kunuka trees out from the now scorching sun, wound the stereo up and watched the concrete fella do his job.    We drank beer. We lay back. We relaxed. This to me was the big step and we had made it. Got quite tipsy (the heat I tell you) and all was good. The concrete guy we hired did a bloody good job! Now I love to try and learn new skills and enjoy attempting to do as much as possible but when it came to this job..nup, no way. I could see so many potential fuck ups that I am sure I would make and for what will last a lifetime it was a good investment to pay him. Plus I could drink beer and chill. Just before the concrete set we woke Kevin from his 23 hour slumber and popped his paw print into the concrete between ours. He didn't complain at all- Ragdolls   Next two days we kept it well watered. Third day it rained and we hired a concrete cutter. I cut some anti crack lines...    Last weekend with the help of Shane, his dad Tony, Shep, my brother Dunc, Mei we all moved the workshop/shed we had built at the campground onto Tonys Hino and carted it out. Forgot to get photo of it on truck- it so totally looked like a real dodgy housetruck. It went well and by mid afternoon we were drinking beer and eating sausages. All good times. So we now have our own familiar little shed on the land and it fits in well. It has a bloody nice wee view out the door too Once the workshop is up this will become a garden/old bikes/lawnmower shed.   View out from shed door..    On Monday we moved the cabin up to its new spot. First off I mowed the lawns/gorse stubs. The mower is doing a good job of nipping off the high spots and levelling it all. The grass is coming up well espicially given how bloody dry its been this spring. As usual I found yet more treasures hidden in the ground. This time some good quality Yates loppers and some chain. Must replace mower blades...    Took a piccy of cabin and van on pad. Van left its mark in the space of 2 minutes. Our first oil spot.   All went well until the little 'accident'. Once it was sorted (only took a huge tractor..)...   ....we moved the veranda up..   It will go behind the cabin and become firewood storage and we'll build a new bigger veranda. I need to finalise the levelling and block it up so no loading on tyres to avoid flat spots. Although that doesn't really matter much because this cabin is set to be here for life. Awesome view from new cabin position. Will be a sweet spot for visitors to stay in or just to go read a book. Future plans are a wood fired spa pool tucked in the background near the bush. Will be a sweet area.   So now waiting on the kitset. Hopefully will be on time for start of next week. Still not totally sure how assembly will go but will hire 1500kg scissor lift to put up portals/roofing iron. Might rope in some help here and there- ply people with beer and food. Now have power connected too which is good. Might be handy. Next up is the phone line.  Moving housetruck out on Sunday and that's it- we have moved out  Kevin will be a confused kitty..but a happy kitty. 10 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
