hahahahah an esky engine swap is like for knowledge, but I want it to be able to have a couple of horses so I have in mind;
pinto would be the easiest? but wont have alot of horses without mods?
4age/4agte would be medium? but have good power :)
3sge would be the hardest with all the technicalities (thanks Roman for enlightening me about it)

Unless the Escort you already have is rusting away. Buying another one that does have it's fair share of rust, to make a project makes no sense. Not unless you like to fix rust anyway. Just use the one you have as mentioned, it's not rare, so it's not worth worrying about keeping it standard.

Nah nah the escort I have now is actually pretty straight, :/ what about purist? Would it be harder to sell later if I wanted too?

An 1100 escort 4-door would be the least desirable model Sentimental value only really., the money is in the rare factory hot models mexico , Sport etc etc etc.

Basically, it has no redeeming qualities. The only thing that could potentially be on it's side is mileage but I would seriously doubt that it's low mileage.

fuck what a messed up thread.

1.  you have a mk2 escort 4 door yes?

2. how old are you? you seem quite young, in which case fucking around with a mk2 escort is a brilliant idea, to learn cars and motors in general, assuming its not super fucked and you arent biting off more than you can chew.

3. Forget about beams 3sge. If you are young you will spend more time trying to save money for it and the shit to make it run, when you should be spending it on hookers and blow

Either, play with a crossflow or pinto, or if your heart is set on doing a 3sge swap, consider using a gen1/2/3 3sge. They have been chucked in rwd format with dual carbs plenty of times with great results - check out all the lotus 7/caterhams that use 3sge's. Would be heaps of fun to pedal, and pretty simple and cheap engine. In fact I am pretty sure there is a gen3 3sge on trademe at the moment for $100 with a fwd gearbox you could flick off for a couple hundy.

4. profit

edit: its a gen2 from a '91 sw20 mr2

Zetec?

Resonably easy swap, except it seems to require a number of off the shelf (at least in the UK) but expensive parts to make it all go.

I Vote.

buy a 1600 kent engine and a serria 5 speed.

learn how to put it in.

Done.

This or Pinto should be easy enough, Pinto you probably should upgrade at least the front suspension as it is a heavier engine. You could also forgo the gearbox for now, less of an option if going to a different engine. Also avoid the DOHC "Pinto" from late model Sierra's, they are quite a differnt engine with little option to improve from standard.

What engine does your Escort currently have? If already a 1600 then you can do a fair bit to make them go betterer, same for 1300 to a lesser degree.

What model? If low spec you may have front drum brakes that probably should be improved before swapping any engine.

Diff ratio might also be a consideration but this should be easy enough to swap if need be.

Cpt. Pancakes I have a 1975 mk2 esky with a 1.1L xflow engine. The eskys 2 ownerships back was a purist he upgraded the brakes, they're callipers

Jase I've heard the wankel is nice and small, gives good power and revs good too?

But they're terrible on fuel use

I had an 1100 Mk2 Escort. It was four door but it had a 1300 swapped into it at some point.

Much rust but so slammed and many wow.

I blew first gear. The 1100 gearbox could not handle the torque of the 1300. Have you considered the 1300? I think this would be a good start for you. Nice and cheap seeing as price is an issue for you.

I did plan to put a 13b rotary in it. Many horsepower and compact engine but the Escort rusted away. So much so I scrapped it.

I miss that car.

How much power are you after?
