^^ Pretty sure he was after  ~700 streetable whp from an unopened 3sge+t

Oh wow. That is alot of power. He must be dreaming? Did he mean 70hp?

70 hp would be good out of a Pinto. Much easier than the 3S and a well documented conversion.

Well im studying this year and i dont work till after mid august, its just the consumption of fuel the rotas have :/

And the peice of fuel, well mind you I wont be driving much once I start my course.

Mjrstar hahahahahah hell no 700 whp is waaay too much for me, I wasnt actually looking to make that, I just saw it and was like wtf? And I was only curious to if was even possible, because if it is I would then know a 3sge+t has a good possibility to some good whp

if fuel consumption is a concern,

how about a hearty turbo diesel with some pump mods,

obviously its not a common swap but I have a ford courier 2.2 diesel and 4 spd

that would work well.

keeps it in the family and with a little extra plumbing for a fuel heater it could be run on chip oil or black diesel

That would actually be a fuckin sweet conversion!

I had a mate who had wound the wick up on his diesel courier and it would happily break the 2hundy k mark.

It was incredible how it managed to take such a prolonged thrashing at high boost (talking over a year!) before it melted a piston.

yeah Nathan you forget he's a young chap,

studying flatting an living off a student allowance is pretty tight on the money side,

depending on his commute distance a turbo diesel could be quite viable,

it isn't common to see diesel swaps here into passenger vehicles but it does make good sense

especially as a first swap.

not too many pitfalls with wiring (glo plug relays etc)

plumbings fairly simple

and engines not going to be too big for the hole,

brakes may need a little upgrade (pads/rotors)

also insurable for a young fella.

A first engine swap should be easy, make mounts plumb it wire it, get a driveshaft made,

cert it and go.

Otherwise you'll spend the next ten years looking at the thing in the shed like me

since when is anyone sensible on here,

I've poured thousands into $1000 dollar vehicles for years.

its a great way to pass the time.

do what floats your boat young chap and don't let anyone tell you your interests should be different.

originality comes from those with the willingness to be different and follow up there ideas.

unless you want to carbon copy the latest trend?

I had an 1100 Mk2 Escort. It was four door but it had a 1300 swapped into it at some point.

Much rust but so slammed and many wow.

I blew first gear. The 1100 gearbox could not handle the torque of the 1300. Have you considered the 1300? I think this would be a good start for you. Nice and cheap seeing as price is an issue for you.

I did plan to put a 13b rotary in it. Many horsepower and compact engine but the Escort rusted away. So much so I scrapped it.

I miss that car.

How much power are you after?

SO SLAM. MANY HORSEPOWER. WOW.

My 2 cents:

With engine swaps you can either spend time or money, so if you want to save time you spend more money, you want to save money you spend more time.

When I did my engine swap I  researched what parts I would need well before I actually purchased a car, and started to find the parts on trademe and other forums.

My budget:

20v silver top $126

Rebuild of above with 7afe headgasket. blacktop intake cam $456

C56-LSd $81

Blacktop Loom and Auto ECU $56

Ae111 Brakes $106

Rear Sway Bar upgrade (whiteline) $16

Recaro Seats with ae82 rails $189

Bazda Coilovers $251

Extras ( various small parts needed) $328

Total parts bill $1609

Car:

AE82, 406,000km blown engine no rust $458

Cert $320

Total price:  $2387

Cars Value  $300 max

I read just about every forum post on swaping a 20v into a 82, what I would need, what works, what doesnt. Then I wrote a list of all the major parts I would need and started to source them, trademe is good, forums are good too. Won a whole bunch of auctions and if I felt it went for too much would not bid.

Once all the parts are together then look for the car (if you dont already have it). You guys will probably say I was stupid but it worked for me and kept the price down a lot. Just with any car;project have a budget, a goal and then add 25% to the budget for any unplanned extras. Still am spending money on her, the half cage, front bumper and will need to paint her soon as she is a bit tired. But all this money is being spent on a $300 valuved 1984 corolla. When I sell her i would be lucky to get $500 max for her.
