4age into Escort MK2

+1 for 4age, aren't anything earth shattering power wise standard. but make good numbers with a bit of boost. i say boost as its hell of alot cheaper than trying to get na power.. keep plenty of oil in them and you'l be beating down on it for ever.

people seem a bit quick to jump straight to 4agze when going turbo. stock n/a 16v with well suited turbo, running lowish boost and good tune. will have a fat powerband and be nice and responsive with the high compression.

im fucken bias as hell tho

Pinto vs 4AGE debate? OS is going to explode!

I don't know what you guys are talking about for parts. 2nd hand 4AGE bits are easier to get and are cheaper than most pinto performance parts on the market... It is a better engine with more tuneability options, more reliability and more cams. If you look at Vivaspeed's 4AGE viva you'll see that they're good for pushing old british boats and will manage similar results to a pinto (in regards to laptime) for less money.

As for gearbox, a standard T50, K50 or W5x box will work fine and standard ratios are fine. If you add cams and don't time them right your engine will be peaky (that's where TWIN cam comes in handy :P ).

the engine bay. also depending on small or big port will depend on fit.

How? They're exactly the same apart from the fact that smallports didn't come out with RWD inlet manifolds (and you wouldn't want to pay for a RWD bigport manifold either).

For an NA 4AGE, the best option for torque, power, doort and strength is the smallport - KPR will agree :P . 42mm crank, 7rib block, oil squirters, higher compression, best port shape & size, respond well to "fast road" type cams (272' is the norm on stock ECU).

Blacktops rev harder and achieve more power in stock form, but they have no power until 6krpm and don't seem to respond to mods in the same way.

^ this makes me think of Aidan's anglia, the one he drives once per engine build and struggles to find fresh heads to blow up with

..don't they roll Pre-Crossflow in Pre-65?

Yes they do.

Grumpy as shit Kent 1600 FTW!

angry kent every time. however if price is a factor and youre paying someone to do it it's gonna be dear, especially with twins. my old kent owed me around $7k roughly. about 1.5 of that was my fuckup for breaking a water pump bolt and having to get #1 resleeved.

Just to throw my 2c in...

I'd go pinto if it was me. I know 16v twin cam is better in theory, and probably just as fast around a racetrack, but I prefer mid-range torque over top end madness. If you want both then I guess turbo 4age could work, but it sounds a bit dodge.

Ha, I can actually comment on this since I have actually owned a pinto (2l twin choke weber version) and a 4age. The pinto was better. 4age was a bit of a let down, since passengers looked at me funny when I dropped down to third and redlined it just to pass a car

bit off topic but my ca8de was like that, the l20b (pinto equivilant?) would go up my hill in 3rd and ca would need to drop into 2nd.

then the ca got a hairdryer ... and now happily goes up in 4th @60k

turbo arn't just for hp

bit off topic sorry .

depends entirely what you want from the vehicle .

For me to rebuild my kent 1600 i may as well get a turbo zetec(Keeping with Ford :) ) or the 4age (dads not to into the 4age and crossbreeding) so are there any other ford engines with reasonable economy and power and easy modification to a mk2?

zetecs are a good motor and are ford ... but they cost more , take just as much to fit , have less parts in terms of goodies .

and while i have my own prefrences if you roll up to repco on a sunday im pretty sure they will have one of somthing in stock for a X4age .

just fit a ca and be done with it

:shaking2:

That was my issue, rebuild the 1600 or go 4age in my mk1 cortina. I went 4age. Still havent had it running properly yet but thats more to the fact im useless and stuff progresses slow.

I would say once you do decide make a plan of what you want to do and then attack it, dont keep changing you mind like me.

I like the idea of a zetec but that would be quite a bit of work, but worth it in the end but then for other parts turbos etc plenty in NZ for the 4age compared to the zetec where i imagine you would primarly have to sort from over seas.

If you do decide to go 4age, I have a modified sump that i was going to use over an escort x-member when trying to fit rack and pinion until i changed ideas (again). Its just sitting here getting in the way

Best of luck
