Seatbelts?

I've googled but end up with complicated tables of rules I don't understand.

I was under the impression that pre 1972??? You don't need rear seatbelts if the vehicle never came with them?

Is this right? Or kind of right?

Can't remember the date but yup, if they weren't fitted from factory they don't need them.

If however the car is being re-registered, you'll need to fit them.

It depends on when it was first registered in NZ:

- before 1 January 1991 -> No rears required

- between 1 January 1991 to 31 March 2002 -> Rears required

- after 1 April 2002 -> No rears required

Thanks. Yeah confusing eh...

Think I don't need them, may have to double check registration dates, as it may have lapsed then been put back on etc...

Very generic question but.....Mustang 2 front ends to fit early 50's chevs. (Wanting to bag the car and this seems like the easiest option)
Are their any brands from U.S.A that get the instant tick of approval?

Shit hot! Just carjamed it and first registration was 22 May 1964...sweet!!!

I'd want belts in the rear

A) for back seat passenger safety

and just as importantly

B.) for the front seat passenger safety.

Guess that would mean cert time, but worthwhile IMO.

So if a car did not have rear seat belts from factory but is de-registered, it would require rear seat belts to be installed for re-vin?

Those are very good reasons. I just work on the theory that accidents happen to other people and not me...so I should be sweet as:)

I thought so, but nope. First reg in NZ. If however the car has come in from overseas and is first registered here outside those dates it will.

Seat brackets/rails for cert, I understand they have to be a well known/good brand (can't remember the terminology atm), does Planted fit that bill? As in:

https://www.plantedtechnology.com/products/seat-brackets/datsun/planted-seat-bracket-nissan-datsun-720-pickup-1980-1986-driver-left.html

https://www.plantedtechnology.com/products/seat-brackets/datsun/planted-seat-bracket-nissan-datsun-720-pickup-1980-1986-passenger-right.html

I'm fairly sure the seatbelt stalks are attached to the floor (not at home at the moment/been ages since I pulled it all apart) so they will look different to the stock photo on there.

The seats are Recaro and I will probably use some universal sliders as well (I should have the height).

TIA

Probably ok, havnt seen any of that particular brand, usually the main issue with them is the belt buckle so if yours is off the floor you should be ok.

Cheers for that. Will add it to the list of questions for the Certifier I’m using but thought it might help to ask here first.

Next question is regarding floor mount pedal boxes, looking to run this one:

https://www.trademe.co.nz/trade-me-motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/other/auction-2330115255.htm

will this require NDT/is it all good/no go at all?

I will require some alternative setup due to the engine now taking the place the clutch pedal originally mounted, and this seems well built and decently priced (checked it out in person while in Taupo last weekend).

Chur, looks like the Wilwood/Tilton ones will be the go then, can potentially reuse the accelerator but definitely will need a brake/clutch setup.

Will have a look at prices, cry, then suck it up.

@cletus I owe you a beer.
