Had this awesome joker with a really choice stage1 v8 109 and an epic beard turn up and offer me what I was after so I let her go. Gone to a good home in the pohangina valley to be used for hauling firewood, hooning around, and carting him to the river for summer swims hah. joker told me where he lives and to come out for a burn in the old girl whenever. lolz. he's also got a shit tonne of spares apparently so hopefullywhen i get a roadgoing landy then i'll be able to network with the fella. che! A final look.

  5. Powdercoating done. Think I either forgot to send in one engine bay shield or they didn't return it. Prob better check. Got more stuff to coat at a later date so no real major. I'm not 100% sure its the best way to combat rusty underbody parts but time will tell. Gaz

  8. So been a bit slack with updates and getting my Wagon finished but have had a slight distraction My son's Escort which I ended using for the Gumboot Rally on my own as he started a job the week before. The Classic Ford article It may seem like not much has changed on the Wagon but I have been able to get heaps of small things done like installing the petrol tank, battery cables for the battery to be in the back, new brake lines. Got as far has installing radiator, alternator, coil etc and all was looking good until I tried to install the starter and it was catching on the winged and baffled sump. A quick touch with the hammer revealed it had been badly repaired so had to pull everything out again. So got if repaired properly but forgot to take a photo Thanks to M_C and Shaneo its all back in and I can start putting everything back on. So getting close again and hopefully get it done by the end of the year, definitely want to drive it to Leadfoot next year

  9. Have made a bit of progress lately. Mmmhh 6 gears.. Found some goodies inside, the gearbox had been rebuilt previously and found a TRD LSD in there as well. Didn't have any wear on the synchros or the diff and looked to be TRD oil in there so that's always a good sign. While the gearbox was apart I took some time at work to sandblast the casing before putting it back together with new diff bearings and a couple of new bearings inside the box and a seal kit Also blasted the timing chain cover to get rid of the green. Have clear coated the bottom part and the top will go the same color as the rocker cover. Intake manifold mk 2. Big thanks to jase for sorting this. Still some small adjustments to make for a perfect fit but almost there. Nothing that can't be sorted out with a file. Also struck a problem with the vvti solenoid plug being in the way. Need to work out how I can rotate the plug by 180deg but leave the solenoid in the same place. Got heaps to do at the moment with the pedal box needing finishing, seat mounts to do, sump to baffle, rocker cover to clean up and refit with cam timing cover, shorten 4age flywheel bolts and fit gearbox and clutch then I'll be ready to mount it in the car and fab up and engine mount. While all this is going on I'm in the process of designing some coilovers bodies for some 42mm inverted bilstein shocks. Should be good to get them sorted!

  11. So now we have a house with a bigger garage, ive got this at home. Stripped the interior out today as it was FULL of rat poos, old rubbish from the 80s, pictures of jeebus, pencils and 2c coins, and a rug with a tiger on it. floor looked good from underneath, and even better on top, its like a new one, sweet!

  15. Yeah I'm hearing ya 808, I viewed it tonight and it was stunning just the pearl was out of this world but it didn't photograph at all lol, yeah I've basically resigned to the fact that there's nothing I like in a 15" rim so will be sticking with the modgies. And yeah the savanna tan interior with black trims looks mint and It will grow on me.

  16. Below the engine bay pics show more of a difference in regards to the pearl. Anyways will throw some more pics up during the week as will be going hard out tomorrow night with the chrome bits.

  17. The last picture above in the very corner sort of shows the light shade of pearl compared to the rest, kinda hard to make out but it's there.

  18. I've just got back from checking the final result, knowing roughy how it was looking prior to the final clear coat, pretty much was blown away with all the different colours under different lights, of which what I was seeing I could not see through the camera, I now understand when people say the pictures don't do something justice, it has deep blue tones to light blue tones with hints of purple and red and a darkish teal, it was in my eyes just gorgeous and so pleased not to go to a metallic blue like I was originally going to do. So this week there's some minor engine bay detailing and lots of chrome polishing happening, radiator to go back in and ida etc. hopefully drivable by the end of next weekend. Below are some pics but as I say you probably can't see what I saw in the flesh but gives you an idea.

  22. Finally got the rebuild carb on, but haven't fired it up. I got the new thermostat, housing and hoses on, then realised i didn't have enough hose clamps for the new radiator hoses, so only the top one is on for now. Oh well. Look at the shiny bits anyway...

  29. Well more than strange, as I was sifting through the car and bits n pieces I opened the glovebox, and no I didn't find a kilo of crack... But I did find a 4 page letter on how to start this thing up and how to use the immobiliser, after reading and getting to the end of page 4, it was signed by a guy I will call "mr x". Strangely enough I personally knew a guy called "mr x". So after a quick call to "mr x" of whom I was going to get to paint the coupe, and explained the letter, the penny had dropped, turns out his brother used to to own it and also his best mate, "mr x" had already painted this car twice before years ago, and I rebuilt an engine for this back about 15 years ago. Talk about a small world!

  30. So I've just sold my Rx7 race car as it was just to expensive to race, so the wife said sell it and buy a car you can use more frequently, and so I started looking around for an Rx7 series 1 or 2. I had 20k to play with, I nearly brought a series 1 Seven but the owner had it in the shop and i could'nt view it, so I waited then whilst looking at trademe found this Rx3 coupe, so i decided this is me, sight unseen but viewed by a buddy, I knew it was pretty straight. Yeah it was a gamble but at the end of the day, how often do genuine Rx3 coupes came up for sale. So after buying and having lots of issues trying to transport this car, I bit the bullet and a mate helped me recover it from above taupo, It was a long trip from Christchurch. Finally we returned home and then when i got up the next day to have a good look at the car, well thats when it got very strange!

Temp sitting over 100 n not going down so needa look into shitty old sender unit, timing, and thermo. But all in all good result, im stoked that engine runs as it was a bit of a gamble purchase. Gaz
