RXFORD
Just chiming in on your driveshaft dilemma... About a month ago I had Russel at Driveshaft Specialists shorten, assemble and balance a customers shaft for me. I prepped, painted and fitted new universals in the front half (d21 navara 2pc), and he shortened the rear section, then added a hilux slip joint that I supplied, then fitted new universals which I also supplied. It only cost $250ish for his portion of work. And the 3 new uni's that my customer supplied cost less than $100 for the lot. What I'm getting at with that novel, is that if you buy and fit your own uni's, getting the shaft shortened then balanced once you assemble it would only be a couple hours work for the shop doing it.
Jeffs_Emporium
I understand where you are coming from but I do not have the tools or expertise, you also mention 'for a customer' so my guess is they paid you atleast $80+gst per hour to do so? All in all it seems like a lot of work when I can pay similar money to have one delivered to my house when all shops are likely to be closed for month and a driveshaft isn't something I'm keen to throw together in my shed
63Ragtop
Tailgate looks like it's might be a nightmare, any replacement available for these or what?

Listing for a new one is about $1600 not sure it's actually available. It will get sorted at the very end. Rust hole is just on the edge of the seal not all the way up to window flange

tortron
Just wants a few patches or a whole lower part?
Jeffs_Emporium
Lots of dents in the whole lower section. Mostly 5mm filler 10mm some spots. It's been flapped to bare steel with filler straight over.
piazzanoob
After removing sound deadening in a 80s Toyota myself during the lockdown i didn't find any rust but did found some under the seam sealer as such but its a shit and painful task. i just did it with a sharp chisel and tapped away. tried with heat gun and its easier to get off but leaves much more residue and the fumes really get to your head. was going to do dry ice but now BOC gases have a minimum order of 10kg and require it to be ordered before 12pm the day before for a saturday pickup. and wanted 100 or so dollars. but that's BOC gases for you i then cleaned all the small bits remaining off with chisel and used a brush and rags with petrol and works well. tortron
i reckon you could cut that bit of the carb casting off, depnds whats under it, looks like a blanked off port from the manufacture process, nub it down atleast
Valiant
Can you not cut the engine cover and re weld it?
Jeffs_Emporium
I could but it's the seatbelt mount and seat mount landing on it that makes me afraid regarding certification
cletus
Is dropping the carb side of the engine down a bit and raising the other side an option?
Jeffs_Emporium
I have tried that and my gearbox mount was thanking me but it pushes the end of carbs back to the sheet metal between engine bay and battery (reason why I had 10mm taken off the carb manifold) I think I will push on as if it does fit, complete wiring, get it started up and make sure everything else is fine and then with a bit of luck a floor shifter van will be at pickapart or something otherwise drop the lid off somewhere that can reproduce it with the space I need to certification spec.
