  1. Wanting to IRS convert a low spec (solid rear) 80s toyota mark ii/chaser/cresta. They have the same floor pan and I have taken the braces between chassis rails and outer sills for the subframe pickup points from an IRS parts car. Is this a straight forward swap with regards to cert if using factory parts? 57071/2 are the braces i kept still attached to section of chassis rail and outer sill for correct placement while im here do i convert rear to take an s13 rear coilover (beef up trailing arm pickup and put strut towers in rear)
  2. Did some more suspension fettling @Snoozin put it in print via nzpc Now looking to sell and onto the next one in garage! Would like 35k on the tomcats 25k on CHEVIOT TURBOS
  3. This motor was appealing because it was 100% complete with loom, usually half the stuff is missing from a never completed single turbo conversion or rebuild that never happens it had been in a surf that they had blown the gearbox in and couldnt sell complete so parted out, had the 120kms yarn, some questionable 10mm plate engine mounts, a punched in sump with an extra drain added in on opposite side and the shortened intake pipe on right to clear something. Checked crank bearings which is always first on list with and 1gg pretty disappointed, popped one cam cover off and its pretty gross inside. Unlikely the claimed 120kms new plan is to remove everything from this engine and tidy it up and put on the other longblock. I'd like to do an oem+ style fitment of the engine where everything is vapour blasted and tidied up and fitted to the van exactly as it was to the supra but we will see what state the twin turbos are and if it will all fit. Either way I needed a complete engine to measure up to see what space we have
  4. Went on a mission to Invercargill to pick up another 1G-GTE that had been on marketplace for ages. Have started a weird tradition of picking up transplant engines with vehicles they are destined for with the gx first, then the liteace and now the hiace
  5. Have somehow done 10,000kms since May! Ignored the rust and installed some Carrozzeria audio Picked up this 1999 FH-P7000MD model with a lower half that tilts which is optimum for van seating height to radio location, I just can't see a thing on the top half. This era of carrozzeria is perfect for adding Bluetooth via the ipbus cd changer control port Paired with the TS-X9401ZY which was a Daihatsu move factory option ceiling speaker. works pretty well in the spot where the missing rear aircon piece is. Mounting to factory holes on the body after I drilled a couple of holes in the bracket the speaker came with and is slim enough not to obstruct rear passengers view out windscreen. I need to pick up the missing end caps for the speaker and that should tidy it up more
  6. While the tinted windows prevent you from seeing the curtains from outside they definitely add a touch of class when sitting inside. Bit by bit it's feeling a bit less shit! I also lowered the front to level it out. Engine crossmember now sits at a pleasant 70mm from the ground I was also able to get the 3rd row seatbelts that I was missing so now I can safely seat 8!
  7. Tailgate curtains fitted had to remove the old electric top rail that was still there and this one screwed in to same mounting hole, bottom rail needed hole drilling at either end to fit as the original holes weren't going to work
  8. Scored a few fancy bits for this from a 4wd supercustom here in nz that's changed hands a few times and is now being turned into a camper
  9. Recently I was able to take the 20:6 speedo drive from the yh61hv at my local pickapart to assist with 10% smaller tyres fitted its still out by 6% but I think that's the most teeth available with 5 on the gearbox side. Probably be in the ballpark if I change to 3.9 final drive. Some of the toyota manuals arrived and while looking for the tacho wiring I found the 104km/h chime to de-pin (c3) Still at a bit of a loss with the tacho even though I've identified the pins. I tried an old tacho wired direct to them with no luck. It has a distributor with coil built into the side of it under the cap with just one two pin plug going to it it (ig+ and ig-?) I've checked continuity between dizzy plug and dash and that was fine also
  10. As I was installing it the hiace badge fell off in my hands. seems like someone has broken the tabs off badge and used a low quality double sided tape. Im lucky to have grabbed it then
  11. I had some rear brake calipers rebuilt and rotors machined by safe r brakes for the mark ii recently. When picking them up today one of the guys working there helped me load them in the van. He was loving that it was a supercustom and manual and noticed the missing corner light. He said he used to work around the corner at autolights and was sure the missing corner light was there. Popped over and sure enough they had it. Have been looking all corners of the internet since I got this thing. 75+gst and it was mine. Apparently 2011 pricing when they acquired it.
  12. Picked up the early twin headlight bezels to match the other grille. The later front the van currently has has definitely grown on me but I can not locate the missing cornerlamp/lense. If I run this twin headlight setup I think I'll black it all out to match the rear numberplate surround
  13. 185/60/15 fitted up to the work ewing IIs Front needs some lowering I reckon, 2 extra cylinders should help
  14. An adapter/spacer is required which there's a drawing available online. They are pretty costly to cnc machine in nz. it also requires alternator relocation which I'm not suuuper keen on as I'd like to run aircon and obviously powersteering
  15. There will be a time I do, I just can't put a date on it right now. Looks like a few people are hunting a decent running y series
  16. I still need to get these from Taranaki to Christchurch if anyone knows a door to door service, my usual man with van won't branch out to Taranaki from the main highway
  17. Engine plan! Picked up this local rebuilt second gen 1G-GTE and sold my Auckland 1GGE (thanks @Kelvin) Popped the rear access panel off the hiace and did some measuring -From 3Y block-bellhousing surface to radiator i have 700mm -From 1g block to front of crank pulley i have 688mm Quick math leaves 12mm for clearance if the 1g bellhousing is same length as the 3y one. I'll change to NA cam covers and 1jzgte intake to help with height clearance under seats and they look more appealing, I think that will be OK! The mid sump looks to be the right one also New part time employer @BobbyBreeze has me fizzing to do some extra curricular custom exhaust manifold to make it all work with an updated single turbo. It was a hard call for me to go turbo route instead of NA but the criteria for the van is to be able to hoon with all the boys and do a sick burnout so I reckon this is the best way forward. Pretty happy with an engine that was available in 1989 going into a 1989 van!
  18. Some boomerang Work Ewing II were sourced in a trade which I had originally traded for something else, i think @Raizer originally os freighted them to me years ago. They were a 15x6.5 +41. Upon test fitting the fronts didn't have enough clearance to the upper arm and balljoint. I then sourced a 6.5 +17 pair from yahoo auctions and switched the centers over after Aidan at pine engineering painted them for me. This leaves me with a spare +41 5x114.3 pair for a naughty resizing for the rear in the future. I've been window shopping tyres and doing calculations on final drive plus trying to find something with a suitable load rating. 185/60/15 is legal for a 6.5 rim and will put me in the ballpark to use 3.73 or 3.9 diff ratios to get similar highway rpm as stock. 3.9 for 3y use and 3.73 for when the engine is upgraded I'm thinking. Man hilux lsd are cheap and plentiful compared to anything I've owned. Aidan was kind enough to draw up the centre caps, plates and threads for me from a sample so I can have them cnc machined when ready to complete the wheels
  19. Van has now changed hands and is most of its way back up to the Far North where it will be a company vehicle for a dog training business. First and last pics for thread! Thanks for watching!
  20. Fitted up last Friday on the driveway It's about 35-40mm higher It took 4 litres without a filter change (its was very recent) Dipstick still fits without mods so I'd call it a win.
