Roman
That's a weird one, if it's easy to get the oil pump off, perhaps could try shimming the spring on the relief valve and see if it makes a difference? This is the sort of oil pressure spread I get with V6 motor (just before it shit itself, one of the times it shit itself) Dont get 30psi until around 3000rpm, dont get to 60psi till 6000ish so I'm not sure if you'd see this problem (or not problem) become evident by running the motor and idling it.
sheepers
The pump is already shinmed as per the deemed 7M oil pump modifications
ajg193
I doubt it is the filter, they bypass at something low like just a couple of PSI across them.
Roman
Unless you had the filter plumbed up backwards, wouldnt it be doing nothing? As its just an anti drain back type thing?
ajg193
They have the anti drainage valve and a bypass valve at the other end, usually will bypass if filter is blocked or you are at reasonably high RPM. Apparently oil filters are actually only filtering the oil less than 20% of the time on most cars
Ja1lb8
Covers look spectacular! I'm sure you've considered it bit have you got some sort of baffle on the bottom of the cover under the breather hole like the factory one had? I only ask because I never put mine back in after cleaning them up and sucked the better part of a litre of oil out the little breather hole into the inlet before I realized what I'd done, don't spose it'd matter if it went into a catch can tho Cant wait to see this thing running Chur
sheepers
Cheers for the heads up. I have actually made the covers so they accept the factory baffle inside them so it will be exactly as it was from factory.

Roman
Damn dude, you've knocked it out of the park with those covers! Looks incredible. Colour really suits it too. Is 5M_GX designation a throwback to an HKS variant of the motor or something? I absolutely cant wait to hear this thing sing! What's left to do now?
sheepers
yea so HKS made an engine, or maybe dress up parts for an engine and they called it the 5M-GX. they were doing similar parts for the 4age (which was called a 5A-GX) at the time and the 4age stuff was fairly popular. the 5m stuff, not so much. they made a turbo kit for a 5M which there is a tiny bit more info about, but there is nothing i could find on the interwebs about the 5M-GX except a couple of photos. i have no idea what they did as far as engine improvements or anything, i just found a picture on the internet and decided to copy it. cool story bro. what's left is make some sort of ITB setup for this thing and a set of extractors. the extractors will be fairly easy but the ITBs could turn in to a bit of a nightmare. there is very little room around number 6 and the firewall has a hump in it that means i cant come out of number 6 in a straight line. time will tell. 7
