But fussy but could you just put a fitting in top of your oil cap and run a hose up high to a small catch can or tie back to a rocker cover breather?

I have been thinking about reinstating the old vent hole below the cap but use a tiny barb fitting to allow some very small vent hose to run up well above the oil height somewhere. No matter what I do it'll look ugly though.

Its quite comical. The cap screws down maybe 12 mm and as its wound down the oil level below gets pushed the same amount. Which suggests the oil level in the main sump must go up the same amount. There is room to spare before oil whip from the crank would ever be an issue - of which is actually quite well baffled off by the the alloy castings on each side that the liners are set into. You can only see the middle of the crank. The oil would have to bounce straight up to hit it.

So maybe its not an issue at all. I guess the filler tube is pressurised ever so slighty when the cap is screwed by the weight of the main sump oil pushing against it.  But then it must equalise out a bit when the engine starts and the  pump draws oil up to feed the galleries so leading to a drop in oil level?

I think I'll just go for another hoon and just be happy if the oil pump always has oil to pull. Look at vents later.:bounce:

Use revs rather than loading it up in the higher gears. More chance of bedding the rings like that.

Years back I put rings in a 323 Mazda. Reconditioners warned me they had particularly hard iron bores. Did the length of the Summit road from Gebbies Pass to Evans pass and by the time I dropped in to Sumner it had stopped smoking. Revs and a light load.

No driving with small balls

Fact that you even thought about doing this conversion, let alone successfully completing it suggests you probably need a wheelbarrow for your balls already.:geek:

Sounds great. I’m not quite sure what sounds like, but it certainly doesn’t sound like an Imp :)

Also it is pretty great, its amazingly well sorted already considering the mods needed to get to where it is. There are a few little quirks but it drives just fine IRL.

Hi Alex

I used MSPaint to combine the hillman badge, and the honda text to make a sticker

You might like to put it on your toolbox

Holyshit - seriously? You did that. Very cool and cheers!!!!

I was trying to pick the badges because my car only has the hillman letters so far.  Is this the badge you started with ?

Yeah the sheer concept and awesome engineering are cool and all, but I think the best part of this build is the reactions from internet experts.
I genuinely wonder why some people are so keen to show the world their stupidity...

And Alex's replies are fucking hilarious...

Fuck- I've lost count of the amount of imp barries lending me their sage advice on how to improve the handling of a rear engined car by filling the boot with bags of concrete or bricks etc.

I'm going to locate and borrow some corner weight scales locally and see what the ratio is out of interest but fuck - I bet no one ever suggests same advice on beetle or 911 posts?

It like the standard shit I get when I post Fiat stuff on Imgur; how much rust and how unreliable and the constant repairs must be hard work. Na cunt I just hammer ten types of shit out of it and it just goes.

IRL it is on exactly the same playing field of cars of its age, regardless of what they are they are old and fucked and need some loving to keep them going. If you don't know anything beyond what your uncle once said about *Insert name of some shitty old car* and all you have is mindlessly parroting that shit then you can fuck off.
