Sparkle
Well, heres a pickle. Due to start the new engine up within next few days. The clearance between the back of the carb and the brake booster is just over 25mm. Theres no way that I'll fit filters anywhere near it at the moment, and it could possibly smash the current cut-down trumpet under engine load. Any fly ideas? Obviously the "easiest" option would be to convert to unboosted brakes, but this would probably be a little bit shit in a road car? Apparently running a smaller bore master cylinder helps this though. Adapting other boosters to fit? Apparentyl VW, Volvo and Saab ones are quite small. E21 boosters are basically the smallest of the bmw lot - E30/E36 people convert to E21 as theyre quite skinny.
Gomaxgo
Reverse swing wilwood pedal box? About $800 including cylinders and a fair bit of fucking round and making it all fit under the dash but you only live once right?
Sparkle
That's a little bit out of my budget at this stage. I've kinda already blown it!

Snoozin
Booster delete plate, appropriately sized master cylinder and alter the pedal ratio to help?
eke_zetec_RWD
Will it have enough vac with twin carbs to run a booster anyway?
peteretep
altering the pedal ratio is pretty hard, dependent on design of course
Snoozin
Ok, I'm just basing that idea on what people do with KP's which is pretty straightforward, so on the off chance the E21 uses a similar arrangement. I saw it done on the orange Hayabusa KP, which runs an AE86 dual circuit master unboosted.
tortron
Can you tilt the carbs. I had to do this in my minor to avoid the.suspension arm

shaneo
I just unbolted mine and dropped it down and drilled new holes . No one every asked and got Mesh covers for the trumpets from Burtons . Prob of no use to you though
Testament
if the top of the engine moves 25mm yours engine mounts are rubbish tbh. ain't no 572 BBC
Bangbug
Similar with my plenum and booster. Luckily found a 323 which was smaller to do the job. Brace the engine, 25mm is miles!
Sparkle
Sorry I should've explained better. Is 25mm from carb to booster. Excluding trumpets. The one currently on the back is a cut down one thats about 12mm
Roman
Any room to tip the motor slightly, or space it over to one side? Maybe just a shim between engine mount and chassis or something?Would be a pity for something as simple as this to be what ends up limiting the engine's potential when you've spend $$$ making it all fancy. Although, pics of problem or it didnt happen... Actually MSpaint will be fine too

If he's ditching the booster he may as well fit master to firewall and save the money. I vote moving the booster and master sideways if possible- then making a new pedal which kinks sideways enough at the clevis to line up. Nominal
Good one AllTorque. My suggestion would be as per Snoozin - go unboosted with a smaller bore master cylinder. Anything with a smaller diameter booster is probably a bit fatter and won't fit in by the strut tower. It's a light car, right, so shouldn't be too much effort - you could go to the gym and do leg presses?
