Beaver
ah I see, it looks very malformed in the first pic and looks exactly like a blowout haha
flyingbrick
To be honest from the underside the casting is kinda jagged and yuck looking- so that's what I thought too for a split second. I need better lighting
Testament
not sure why you bothered tearing it down so far? just needed to swap cam lifters and valvesprings? whats this about software for $150 to tune the factory ecus? last I checked it was something like $500+usd for an HP tuners licence?
flyingbrick
Hey man. There was water in the sump so I needed to have a look. One bore has rust pitting. I saved a lot of money by taking a gamble on this motor- thankfully everything except that is OK. I'll be replacing pistons and rods. Not stripped down to look at lifters that was just an example- my mind is easily blown by this stuff as I've not had the chance to poke through anything with pushrods before. flyingbrick
I was heavily mistaken about that software. $150 gets you software that will flash the ECU it seems... No GUI you have to write the code into a file first. I'm looking at a link g4 now
dylann
This is probably a stupid question, but water will be running through that little cooler thing for the window de mister yes? I've removed my heater also so will probably steal your idea haha. Enjoying your build progress, keen to see it finished
flyingbrick
Cheers man! Yep water will flow through it just like how it did with factory heater
EURON8
The white looks odd. Oddly enough i think its the fact it is longer and skinny than the blue one. Blue one wins for me.
HighLUX
Yeah the blue one Car isnt long or sleek enough to suit the white one
michaelme
Go the blue, I think the white is a bit too long for the bonnet. will be good to see it with the v8 underneath
flyingbrick
Good feedback! I own the blue one and not the white- so suits me! Won't be going on till cars off the road and the glass front ends being made. Undecided on this front or the early style now.. Kinda digging how 80's thus is. Getting another daily soon as the Stagea has sold so
Rookie
Why are you changing the rods and pistons?
Truenotch
Upside down wheel barrows make good bonnet humps too.

SOHC
Will it be like this when its running
flyingbrick
Hahaha in one of those vids he fucks everyone off and gets banned for a while. I'm not too interested in skids though to be honest- more than anything I just want to test myself and my ball size down the quarter. If I could get the front wheels off the ground I'd be happy!! Fiero front end being dropped off tomorrow- it should give me approx 2" wider track up front- so my skinnies won't tuck so bad. Will be interesting to run a tape over that lot. Anyone with a gem want to upgrade to Pontiac fiero front brakes? Lol
yetchh
And this is my new daily/ tow pig. Entirely relevant to this thread as it means the gem can now come off the road V8. Goes well for an old car- has extractors and seems to have been very nicely looked after. Now I wonder what I can do to make it faster....... Good to see your batting for both teams bro..
