Anglia4's CB650

Today I have cut/drilled etc. all the parts for mounting the battery box in the frame. I just need to weld some studs to the bottom of the battery box so that I can unbolt the whole box to take the battery out. Then I need to tack the rails in place ready for welding later when I have the engine out.

I whipped the carbs out today as well to order some new jets to suit the pods.

Next little project will likely be the exhaust and painting some bits.

Getting them to work with the old norton style momentary horn switches got put in the too hard basket, so to get it going temporarily I just used some push-on/push-off switches from jaycar. But since using that system I have decided that i really don't like having the right indicator switch by the throttle as its too hard to operate. So I have ordered this http://www.oldbikebarn.com/Three-Position-Toggle-Switch-With-Wire, not sure if it will work but hey worth a try.

I got a bit carried away in the shed tonight. The CB is now stripped back to a bare frame :0

I'll do the cutting and welding on the frame this weekend and buff all the old paint off. That way it should be pretty close to ready to go away somewhere to paint early next week.

I really need to find a solution to the rear brake return spring mounting. I want to cut off the passenger mounts this weekend but can't think of a solution yet :(

Thats the kind of next level thinking I was hoping for :)

My mind was stuck on tension springs for some reason... was even thinking of making it cable actuated to incorporate a spring on that.

Will look at doing a torsion spring tonight and then cut that fucker off!

Holy shitbags some of the parts for this thing are expensive!

I had been seriously struggling to find jets for this cos the pilot jets are push fit and they are almost impossible to source. Bike shop just rang me back, $17 each!!! I need 8 of the fuckers, thats $136!!

So I managed to track some down online for $55 delivered.

He also goes, "oh yeah, that expensive price of $90 for the brake pads, yeah thats per pad..." $180 brake pads! YOU MUST BE FUCKING KIDDING!!!

So I will get the part number off him and find them in the states. Grrr, being in NZ trying to buy parts for old things grates me hard.

Would you be able to take some more photos of your rearsets, both sides as my bike needs them!

Easiest way to do rearsets i reckon is to buy some off a more modern bike from the wreckers and then just make a new bracket to suit. That way you have the pegs and some of the linkage gear all ready to go.

My rearsets are pretty basic, just pegs with a bracket to fit my frame and adjustable linkages.

As Anglia said you could get some off a bike and make a new bracket, just make sure the splines match up yadda yadda

I'll chuck some pics up in my thread rather than spamming here.

I've found some useful parts at decent prices here http://www.plenternz.com/ and http://www.pyramidparts.co.nz

Did you get the jets from the guy called nikau on TM/ebay? He was the cheapest I could find at the time, would be good to know if there is cheaper

Engineery places might have them, I'd probably look for a suitable kick start return spring or similar

or a brake pedal spring haha

Just sift through these search results and you might find something suitable

Took the frame to work today and got one of the welders to fizz the battery box mounts on. He did a really nice job of it, stoked.

Then I went mad with my grinder and made some irreversible changes.

It is now a single seater forever, and it will never wear CB650 side covers again.

I've got almost a whole CB650 in the boot of my Corolla at the moment haha.

The frame is going to the powder-coaters this afternoon where it will be blasted and then coated in bright red.

The engine is going to my parents where I can de-grease and clean it ready to take apart, do the leaky gaskets, make a few inspections etc and then paint it in black crinkle with polished fins :)

Got plenty of painting to do in the near future!

  • 2 weeks later...

Behold the majesty... Anglia4's frame is back from the powder coater's and currently residing in The Blackwood Stable

It looks really good, it will be a completely different bike after re-assembly.

Red bikes go fast, it's just science.
