Awesome. yes it has. Bad news is, I am going to convert back to Transit tail lights It's all part of a bigger plan! 2 Quote
Snoozin Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I'm pretty much keen on this plan (wonder if Classic Ford would feature such a thing...) 3 Quote
browndog Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 I'm pretty much keen on this plan (wonder if Classic Ford would feature such a thing...) Probably would, they have featured far less interesting cars! But I heard a rumour that a replica Supervan 1 is being built in the UK, by a couple of the guys who built the original, and will be finished this year on the 50th anniversary of the Transit. That would get some attention! But may be just a rumour..... I plan to keep the engine front mounted, and just do the cosmetic stuff, like Escort style bubble arches, huge wheels etc. as well as the signwriting etc. So everything I am doing in the meantime is in keeping with the end result, hence getting chrome bumpers, front wing mirrors etc. 3 Quote
Geophy Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Watching the transit on westside she is looking bloody mean eh 1 Quote
browndog Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 thanks Just put some pics up of the shoot on the project thread: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/45288-browndogs-1972-v8-transit/ Both vans are being used in a UK movie, and filming starts this week for that. Will be quite a different look for them, but I can't reveal any details about it unfortunately. Quote
kyteler Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 That's neat man. So cool. You'll have to get copies of that shit, it's definitely a good way to immortalise the ride. 1 Quote
browndog Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 I think they are releasing it on DVD once the series has shown, so I will grab a copy. Originally they wanted 5x Mk1 Transit vans, the story was they would steal a new van every time they did a burglary. I laughed when they told me this, I said they would not find 5 of these old things that were left running, at least not in Auckland In the end they used the silver Mk1 twice, and put stripes and changed the wheels to make it look different. And we used 3x Mk2 Transits, which we will see more of in the remaininig shows. 2 Quote
Leebo3 Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Don't want to buy another transit by chance? There is a mint '77? here for sale, $9000. All original, still has V4 and is set up as a camper with pop top. Pretty cool van it is. Have a couple of pics of it. 1 Quote

I would buy it if it were a panel van and not a camper. I bought a camper early this year so don't need another one, it is also a Ford, but a wee bit bigger than a Transit 2 Quote
locost_bryan Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Been fun watching all the classic cars and vans on "Westside". A definite nostalgia piece for me, growing up in the same area (Te Atatu South) during the early/mid '70s. 1 Quote

LoL yep, definitely wouldn't pass cert now! It's pretty ugly, but is strong enough and won't fail. I will probably replace it and the whole pedalbox at some point. It has an old declaration, pre LVV and as long as I have this piece of paper with me when I go for a WOF it isn't problem! The steering setup was MUCH scarier than this - it had a Falcon power steering box fitted, which operated the wrong way for a Transit. So it had a reverser gearbox fitted to the steering shaft to change the rotation to the input shaft of the steering box ! There was freeplay in both the gearbox and steering box, and the chassis rail to which it was attached would visibly flex when you applied steering input while stationary! If you look at my build thread I have taken some before and after pics of these parts. It was quite awful to drive because of this, would wander around quite a bit, and very sloppy steering. The new power steering box setup should eliminate all of this scary shit 4 Quote
