Rookie
Any of you top blokes know of a surefire (read: easy) way of getting the 40 odd years of shit of the gearbox and block of my Kent? I've been using petrol and a screw driver and that works but its slow going. Any help would be appreciated.
DJZ
Steam cleaner or waterblaster + degreaser.
Bling
I just used a few cans of supercheap degreaser and heaps of rags. Takes a while, but at least you can throw the mess away and not leave it spread out.

tortron
My suggestions (having cleaned off 50 years of crap from my engine, box, and chassis) get some paint scrapers and get as much of it off as you can with that. Then hit everything with a wire brush before degreaser leave for 20 mins, then hit with the wire brush again rinse repeat
danger
wire brush. degreaser. Hot water
Taistorm
Water blast then blast it with kerosene. Repeat a couple times and should be sweet.
nismo.capri
Degreaser, big screw driver and wire brushes for the drill got me this. Also get an oven liner to catch some of the shit that falls off. I then rinsed it with meths to get rid of any water. cloths washing powder in hot water is a good DIY degreaser too. Llama
That shower witch stuff is good, and cheap. Soak it in that, then attack with wire brush, then waterblast. We have only tried it on our kinpins so far, but it worked a treat.
