For Questions Regarding WOFs/CERTs/NUMBER PLATEs

It's not the cutting or swapping of parts that is illegal. It is the reassigning the paper trail of one vehicle to another.

I understand what you say you are trying to do but there is a law that says you cannot just do it without going through the correct process.

The reason you want to make the change is probably entirely different to the reason the law is there but its still the law.

You can still assign the paperwork and identity of one car to another but you have to jump through some hoops to do it.

Also. If your super rare car is replaced entirely by something else....its not really the same super rare car is it?

Q- on a vehicle with a full chassis (eg hq ute) is the front radiator support pannel a structural or important part of the vehicle?

Eg, can it have holes drilled in it like the cool escort here has.

Hi Clint just a quick question about drive shaft hoops, Can they be welded at all?? I have the two 180 degree bent flat bars already from a kit but the not 90 degree flat bar that mounts to the floor pan and the hoop it self so was wondering if I am able to weld two pieces together to make a 90 degree piece (I wont be doing the welding myself just tacking it in place) Any help much appreciated!

Futher to my questions above.

Is it legal to grind off your firewall chassis number and have no chassis number ?

I rang a repair certifier about this and he went silent on the phone for a few seconds and started questioning me why.

In the end i got off the phone to him none the better.

Haven't read newer posts/replies but can tell you I've heard of one crook who made a living out of stealing them plates from written off/wrecked cars and then grafting them on to stolen cars then on-selling them as legitimate. There's probably been more who have done that over the years.

I heard about one gang of thieves who were stealing cars, stripping them back to the bare shell, and dumping them. Then buying the shell at auction, putting the bits back on, getting them revinned, and onselling them.

Fucking lot of work though. Just get a job cunts. ffs!

yep, a guy i know bought a VR SS from turners about 15 years ago, he was pretty sure he was bidding against the guy that pinched it.

he got on to someone who had parts for one through the son of a mate etc etc

the bumpers were the correct colour, and the trailer plug wiring matched exactly where it had been chopped off......

Hello there Clintus,

I'm Pete, we actually spoke on the telephone the other day and I'm locked and loaded for a November cert check. Happy days

One thing I am confident I would currently fail on is the brake house routing, because it rubs on a piece of the inner guard at fullish lock as you can probably imagine in this pic:

So I was wondering if it is all kosher to just jimmy up a bracket with a nice protective rubber grommet in it to allow the hose to move freely, yet not rub against the harshness of the metal inner guard (this is a quick prototype in place but without the hose through the hole obviously)

The world hates me and it is rotating my pictures just to make this even more complex than it needs to be. Rage quit

yes, you can weld it, if done correctly as mentioned above

Cheers Clint, that was basically for test fitting purposes, don't have a hell of a lot room to play with down there so have already cut down the flat bar that I've tacked on quite a bit. Once it's all mocked up it will be getting welded properly by a good mate who has done a heaps of work to this car already.

Ok so after a bit head scratching and looking at how other people have done there hoops (namely Beaver) Iv'e come up with driveshaft hoop mk2.

Let me know what you think, it's only tack welded at the moment don't want to go all out if it's not up to standard.

looks good to me. use a 100x50 washer on the top side of the floor, 4x 10mm bolts to attach to the floor, spring washers or nylocs on all fasteners, and take a photo before you put the carpet back in for your cert dude.

pro tip- tack the bolt heads to the washers on top of the floor and then its much easier to do up the nuts by yourself
