  1. so yea..... my mum has gone to the uk for 5 weeks and said while she was away not to buy any cars, boats or bikes while she is away.... so yea like been a little child and not listening to mum as per usual and doing the total opposite i kind of brought myself another valiant..... so me and miniman76 with a couple of mates went for a drive to auckland to pick up a min shell miniman76 had brought and the valiant i had brought. my 1st intentions where to grab the good parts for the wagon and cut the rest up for they day some decides to crash into my sedan and what not but on inspection it looks a bit to good for this. it came in a million and one peaces, meaning 3 cars worth of parts spreed out under this guys house and one de regd sell on a rotisserie. some of the doors will be cut up and used on my wagon doors or just swapped over just wait and see what the go is. here are some pictures of the car and what not notice the doors stacked in the engine bay, all seats in the front, two boots in the back seat and more doors and guards in the boot..... we made all this fit in the van as well as the ute. (note there are already 3 gear boxes under the mini in the tray of the ute) and this is how the van looked i have to go back up later this month so i will pick the two front and two rear windows up then. if you know of any one looking for ap5/6/vc parts i might have a few spear laying around i may be willing to sell cover my silly purchase. thats it for now i think. ohhh so yea my mum doesnt know about it still as im hiding it in my work shop for the next 5months or so, so she doesnt kill me. haha

  2. Been driving the tits off this thing for the past few weeks so much fun to drive! In today's news I woke to a txt from Sheepers "Nick (the guy who was at my house yesterday) tells me that pick a part Hamilton lists a 74 vega S/W In stock. You should totally check it out. " So within ten minutes I was in my car picking up retep130 and sentra and on our way to buttfuckin Hamilton to check it out! She pretty fucking rusty! But was a treasure trove for small pieces that I may need in future like tail lights n shit. Also was a 'GT' so has nicer door cards and a manual gear box, unfortunately box was gone already but I did take the manual pedals incase I want to manualise it at a later date! Fuck yeh! Oh and it had the front valance I was missing it was in bad shape but 100% restorable! If I had lots of money I would have taken all the windows but oh well still a mint hoard

  3. So a couple of things you may notice in the video... a) the gear map is just leftover from when I sent it into get the brakes done. (I know what the gear mapping is without looking.) finding the gates for the gear is rather difficult, and it doesn't help that I just rotated the gear leaver about 25deg counter clockwise, as my thigh was causing the gear lever to pop out of reverse when looking over my shoulder. It will need further adjustment as now 2nd and 4th are hard to grab behind the wheel. c) I haven't driven a manual in about 9 months so much clutch work was also shit... (please forgive god of clutches) d) a bunch of the noise you hear on the second downhill section is the brakes rubbing... new drums are on way to hopefully fix that..

  4. So the Bleed was bad gave it a clean up and found the breather on the side of the engine had come out and the dip stick was blowing oil out the top fixed it all and not to many leaks now but it is a ford after all. Made a choice on the diff going to get a 4.4. It was the first on the list of things to get but these came up for sale and I had to have them. Gen 7" a special import 30 odd years ago for a track car and have been sitting around ever since. Work needed on the lip but they really suit the car and the era. And they had these as well which was another on the want list As the set up on my car is on lend to see what was to best to run it on so now we Know it needs 45s So thanks to Mark105 father I have some very nice bits for my car. So now new manifold carbs on and a dyno day to see what this little car is doing now. The next plan is getting it all set up ready for the next gumboot rally and maybe a few events in between.

  6. So ive been mucking around with this lately. The new look (version 2) is well under way. Chucked my 14x8 work equips on the front with 155 55s and some 14x7 starsharks on the back with 165 60s. Fixed up my fiberglass Goodline bonnet that had flown open on the previous owners car. Gave it a coat of white paint then fitted some alloy bonnet pins to hold it down. Fitted up my zenki lip. Now that im running 14s i have a little more clearance which avoids the lip getting sucked underneath the bumper. Put some tint over the fog lights to change it up a bit more. Also picked up some face lift mirrors which have really grown on me. Lastly i acquired a fiberglass hatch that has an oem spoiler molded in. A weight saving of 10kgs even with a glass window. Ive got a drift day coming up in a few weeks time, only small bits and pieces left to do. discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/32562-drivekp60s-1983-ae85/page-2 Callum

  7. Turned out my factory callipers were just a bit to tight to make fit. Dad decided he wasnt going to use his willwoods any time soon and they were just to easy to fit. So got some hardware, made some adapter plates, spun up some spacers in the lathe and now were good to go, just need to put them on the car. Picture of todays efforts. Probably going to have more stopping power than horse power now.

  9. Not too much has happened as of late. At the moment i'm in the agonizing process of waiting for a load of parts from everywhere Never the less I polished up another rim and bought a 175/60R14 for test fitting, Seems to look a bit better than the 175/65 Also shaped the flares as best as I could with a dolly & hammer. Following that I Started cutting out the bog....needless to say it extended a bit further than I was expecting Borrowed a d.a. (thanks again Kurt) and started on the roof but need to get more sandpaper, a beartex stripping wheel and will spray the bare metal with an epoxy sealer primer so can start with the filler. Random shot Test fitted my front lip, was as if it was made for my kp!

  10. February 2013fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu Well - has been a pretty eventful couple of days! Car loaded up and ready to roll Went in and got a wheel alignment - was impressed, with the camber plates as the only form of adjustment it had just shy of 2.5 degrees negative camber! Had it set to 1.5 degrees, and stock castor for the time being. Made it intact to the workshop And thats where things started to go down hill... Even though I had booked in for a run up and tune, lots of other cars currently there were causing issues. Also my carbs needed a bit of tweaking (as I'd expected) and the dizzy was a tooth out too. First fire up went well, once the carbs were balanced - it sounds pretty amazing! Exhaust is quite quiet, but you can't hear it over the induction anyway Drove it around the block to go to the dyno entrance, and found it was dumping coolant all over the place :abusive: The lower radiator hose was too close to the alternator, and the fan chewed a hole through it. Shot down and grabbed a new hose and some more coolant, and threw it all back together. At this stage it was 5pm, so we ran out of time to do any tuning. Ran it up a few times on the dyno to give it some load, made a pretty reasonably 57kw at 6000rpm...it starts to go quite lean above 5000rpm so we didn't want to push it too much. It also has a pretty big flat spot around 3000, then comes on in a big way at 3500, about what I expected with this cam. Rodney, the workshop owner said once we get it tuned it should crack 70kw quite comfortably, and if it keeps making power over 7k then it may even touch 80kw, which I'd be pretty stoked with! From there, I went round to the cert mans workshop...sun was starting to set at this point He was pretty happy with the car, said if I want to lower the front more thats no issue Just need a driveshaft hoop, speedo calibration, nyloc nuts/lock washers on the diff flange and tighten the adjustable spring perches. With that out of the way, I began the mission home! With the T50, 4.1 diff and the smaller tyres, it sits at 3700 at 100k in 5th, so stays on cam. Between 4000 and the 5000rpm limit, it's actually pretty quick! It turns in quite well too, potentially to do with the diff. The spring rates are pretty well spot on, its firm without being ridiculously stiff, all the shocks are set at max soft, I think a bit of tweaking here will make it better over really ripply road surfaces. 10pm I got to BP in Otaki to top up the fuel - took a photo cause it looks pretty sweet under fluoro lights However that's about when it all went bad...went to leave, and no go. On cranking sounded like it had no compression...luckily some GCs went and got some tools and I started to pull it apart. Found that somehow the dowel that locates the camgear on the cam had come out, and had ground away the face of the cam :barfy: Managed to clean all the metal dust out of it, reinstall the timing gear and put it back together. However I must have cocked the timing marks up, as I couldnt get the dizzy timed up right, would either be too advanced or too retarded. At about 3am I gave up and called a tow truck, and had it taken home. So yeah - a few things to sort out, and I don't really have the budget or inclination to do anything about it. Pretty gutted to say the least!

  11. February 2013, pt2busy month this one! Yep... Filled it up with fuel tonight - 42 litres takes a damn long time to drain from fuel cans! Bonus, fuel gauge still works, albeit pretty slowly...was a bit concerned it might be dead after all these years of being empty. Light went out straight away though so at least I'll have some warning I was also impressed how quickly it got fuel to the carbs, given the Holley pumps are a push pump I was sort of expecting it to take a while to prime, but it was pretty near instant. Once I tightened up all the loose connections  this happened I'll have to get new washers for the carb fittings though, the ones I have are slightly too big, and they still weep a touch. Easy fix at least! Gave it its first wash in over a year! Ready to roll onto the trailer tomorrow. Also polished up the wiper arms, stainless steel comes up nicely! And dammit my exhaust is gonna scrape like a bitch on the road, it scraped coming out of the garage

  12. November 2012 So over the past week I've made some really good progress. Dash frame all mounted back in, and testing the electrical stuff. Everything works, bonus! With that out of the way, I could finally get the carpet in! Though the trim bits I've collected over the years are a bit manky looking, so I gave them a bit of a tickle up...photo doesn't really show how oxidised they were. One cleaned up vs as they arrived Pro tip - cutting compound is magic for cleaning plastic trim pieces up. I also realised that the door aperture seals were still original and brown...they would look totally arse with the rest of the interior. So I went on the Rare Spares website and ordered new ones. Spendy, but they arrived the next day. I also thought I should finally retrim the parcel tray, as it was certainly looking pretty haggard, as well as also being brown. Before After With that out the way, I finally got the carpet laid! Underfelt glued in place as per instructions, then a few hours of trimming/pressing/shagging about. Looks awesome All thats left to do is fit the two outer rear seatbelts, centre console and handbrake lever (Oh yeah, I bought a factory black one off TM the other day!) and we're finished on the inside! Been plodding away at all the little fiddly bits still. Jesus handles all cleaned up and in, ditto sun visors. Finally swapped over the door lock rods (had changed them when I was planning a different style of lock knob, so had to put standard ones back in ) and put the new window winders and door handle surrounds on. Door cards definitely need to be retrimmed at some stage, its just too much black with everything how it is. Rear seat belts are in, had to swap to a different type as I couldnt bring myself to cut holes in my C pillar trims Mucked about with fitting the gauges too, I cut out a section of carbon fibre sheet to mount them in in the centre console. Looks alright, will certainly be better when its fixed properly and clean! And they even match! Still waiting for my bumpers to come back too 2 1/2 weeks to til my dead line

  13. October 2012, pt2 Hahaha, you know it - f@%k those heavy ass trailer rims! Tyres got fitted up today So over the weekend, I'll measure up the springs, and get something softer/taller which will drop it and keep them captive, solving two problems in one hit Look mum, no hands/axle stands Will finish welding it up tomorrow night...my welding helmet shit itself, so its just tacked together, eyes closed style Then I'll drop them off to the powdercoaters, and finally FINALLY send these bumpers off! Can't wait. So I've had a rare combination of time, money and motivation this month, so have actually got shit done! Made up a pretty line from the booster to the manifold...got the hose finishing clips off TM, while not being as nice a finish as proper AN fittings, they look a shitload better than just having hose clips on there! So all bar a catch can, the engine bay is all done! I've put in some long hours in the garage this week finally fixing up the interior loom. When I initially deloomed it way back when, I missed out a few plugs which I wasn't entirely sure were needed. Also with the addition of the extra electrical bits I've added, it'd gotten into a bit of a state. Started out like this Fast forward 6 hours.... So now I can get this interior put back together at long last! New springs arrived today too...they're not as low as I would have hoped, but realistically I can't really get any lower without getting even shorter shocks, and then I'd have next to f@%k all travel. Must be getting old, function over form Its still a 20mm drop over what it was though. Mandatory on bumps pic: Also got some new softer front springs too, should make it a bit nicer to drive on the road...250lb vs 390 the T3 kit came with. Bumpers are at the electroplaters still...they rang me and said my front bumper is pretty badly pitted, and may end up being too thin to use after the acid bath. Struggling to find a replacement!

  14. Did my first track day a couple of weekends back, it was a great day out. Car behaved perfectly but I did manage to cook the brakes on my last outing and pedal went to floor when parking up after the last session. Little bit scary thinking about it afterwards. Would not have like to have run out of brakes on the track. I had some good battles with my mate in his MX-5 Track day did point out a few things though, Factory seats have next to no lateral support, my suspension sucks and I need a rear sway bar. (Four cylinder commodore bodys dont have rear sway bar mounts) Discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36140-shakotoms-84-vk-mayte/page-4

  15. I bought a few more bits and pieces the other day... Lower dash shelf rx2 Old school 13b sump and pick up with a few of my manuals. I just bought a rare hard cover Mazda 618 manual for a good price and that should be here next week I'd say. RX2 air cleaner - not sure if I will have this on top of my IDA or not, I just couldn't resist getting it. The top guy I got it off threw in a rhd accelerator mechanism that I need to go behind the gas pedal onto the firewall. He may have all the heater and wiper assemblies I am after too.

  17. SO theres a coupla other seats I'll do first I think. This is one outta 6mm rod and theres no brazing so it was able to be galvanised... which came out rougher than I thought with lotsa really sharp drips which I'll sand off and see what I'm left with. Then theres this old late forties fender which still has kinda nice rough paint on the outside but was completely rusty on the inside so I got it blasted. I'm starting in today On adding some room for more sitting area at the tall end and it's gonna be another two seater chaise lounge kinda thing.

  18. So... progress report time... Brakes: working kinda... apparently two of the drums are slightly warped and are causing the brakes to stick... ordered new drums to hopefully fix the issues. Lights: All working, new centre brake light has arrived from the USA and will be installed tomorrow. Seatbelts: Arrived at Auckland mail centre and should be here monday. Windows: Rear, and Sides have been installed. the front however shattered during install and is now in a few thousand pieces. The glaziers have agreed to pay for the shipping costs, so I ordered a new windscreen last night from Germany, 60euros for the glass and 68euro for the shipping. Since its a fixed price for shipping based on max weight/volume I also got some extra little bits and pieces that had previously been uneconomical to buy without having to purposely buy them like spare 6v lights and petcock kits etc. So hopefully that will be here in 3 or so weeks. Lessons learnt this week are: don't forget to remove paper wrapping from the bumper before going for a test drive... especially when that paper is butting up against the very hot front muffler, no damage done, but it freaked me out for a few minutes, "Why do I smell something burning under the bonnet". Edit: Other items that have moved up the list since I am waiting on the the windscreen. - Speedo maintance, discovered that the speedo only seems to report 0 or 40kph as its speed... so will have to disassemble and give it a bit of lubrication I think. - Trim pieces, for the tops of the fenders/doors and roof trim, I need to removed all the old sealant that was on them and polish them up and then screw them in with only new sealant for the roof trim. - The rear seat needs to come out and get the new covers put on, they are not nearly as bad as the original front seat covers, but I have the replacements so I may as well use them. - Interior side cards need to be installed properly with correct mounting hooks and screws.

  24. I think the problem might be that they still look like back seats from a car. They could just as easily have been from a leather equipped Toyota in my opinion. You would have to tell everyone that they are from a Bentley. Anyone upmarket would probably rather sit in and look at an actual leather couch of which there are plenty available for not a huge amount of money. I'm a cock for saying it but probably others are thinking it too.

  25. I took this out for its first proper drive yesterday, Which turned out quite eventfull for the following reasons 1: didnt make it out of my street before the rear tyres started smoking from gurad rub due to the slightly wider diff. 2: after changing tyres and half way into my excursion, developed a real bad brake shudder from out of no where. 3: limped home only to do this going up my drive. $ 4: inspected brakes to find that the left rear axle seal had let go and poured diff oil all through my brakes contaminating everything. 5: mangaed to do this while kneeling down to pick up a tool that had rolled under the workbench yes... that is one of those clips that is ment to hold the seat upholstery onto the seat frame embedded in my knee. Stupid thing curved on entry aswell. that ll teach me for not keeping my work area clean . YUCK. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36140-shakotoms-84-vk-mayte/

  26. so im not great at regularly updating this but... been doing bits and pieces, scored some 14 inch volk mesh for it as the widened steelies weighed a ton, 14x9(measure slighty more between beads) for the front and 14x8(measure slightly less) for the rear. ended up converting it to ke70 steering rack, really only did it as i am trying to get as much lock as possible, the steering box worked fine but at massive lock the angles of the tie rods dont do much favours. new lower arms at 40mm longer and new knuckles to. had to abit of cutting and welding to the front gaurds to get the wheels to fit, and not sure if ive posted above but have cut the rear gaurds off and fitted rivet on flares to stop the gaurd rub, I plan on making some steel flares at some stage but these work for now. I've also remade the gearbox tunnel so i could raise the gearbox (driveshaft angles weren't great being this low) and have completley remade the exhaust to get it off the ground. A post would suck without pics so..
