Any sweet museums with mining shit etc? Am super down to check some of that stuff out.

Not a museum, but you can just park up and walk the bridge to the mine site. Some plaques around with info about the mine, heaps of old mining gear lying around and the coke ovens (memory is hazy, but it's something like that). Certainly worth a look.

 

Map shows a different way to how I got there. I parked on the main road side (looks like a good carpark there now) and walked over the bridge, http://goo.gl/maps/3Elah Just on the left, you can see it from the main road on the street view.

If my great uncle in Greymouth was in better health he'd be keen as to yarn about mining, spent his whole career as a coal miner on the west coast. It was the family trade, my old man went down the mine for a look when he was young, he said 'fuck this' and moved to Wellington and became a builder haha
