yoeddynz
Hiya, Pretty bloody good really. Sitting here on sofa surfing the nerdnet looking at Germans racing contraptions powered by a Bosch cordless drill... http://www.gizmag.com/renholz-drill-pow ... ike/22186/ Housetruck is great but will be better when winter is properly here. I felt a little cold after riding home from work so got the fire going. Sat down and read old classic car magazines with a cup of tea. Hannah baked potatoes in little grill oven we bought- using that instead of gas oven because our $50 bucks a week rent includes as much power as we want. It ended up getting to hot inside so I opened the door and can now hear the creek flowing peacefully outside. Tonnes of moreporks outside calling. And lots of bloody possums too. I set a timms trap last night and didn't catch the latest noisy possum. Woke up to find yet another hedgehog dead. Hannah gave the outside of the truck a autumn clean the other day and even put shiny stuff on the tyres. It's looking pretty darn flash. Hows that? yoeddynz
It's not luck. We just built it. And other people on this forum have got far madder skills than me and could build awesomer houses I'm sure. I would love to see more mad creations being built by kiwis. From what I know nz is the only place left in the world where housetrucks in the classic style are being built anymore. We must like sheds.... I was linked to this website by a friend in the uk. It's all about cabins around the world. Fuck there are so many wicked places with stunning views that I would love to live in.... http://freecabinporn.com/

yoeddynz
Yeah I think that does help. But it's not a truck. It's a house in very close proximity to a truck...
KKtrips
I'm still going to build a house trailer and enjoy this dream one day... Can I ask - materials and compliancing wise what did it cost from whoa to go?
SP450andLE
Pretty much unrelated, but my Dad's friend made an outboard motor from a drill. You should do this.

House with Hino chassis foundations.. this thing is just AMAZING. reread the built thread a few times now, blown away everytime.
yoeddynz
A friend of a friend built a slightly smaller housetruck but kept the house part completely removable off the deck of his truck. It has legs. Great idea. He can park house and then drive truck away and have useful 5 meter deck for work or hauling shit. We wanted to do something similar but with the slides outs and our height it was gonna end up using way to much steel/be a headfuck to keep stiff. The whole house including purchase price of the truck, which was $6500, cost no more than $25,000. That max. So pretty cheap i think. We did a lot of reserch for cheap stuff and mainly used second hand timber which saved a heap. We sold the Bedford to in England to some bloke from France and that was $14,000 towards the build. ProZac
I'll say first hand that this definitely qualifies as a house in close proximity to a truck. The amount of room inside once you're in there is truly astounding. I've also been very few other places that have such a warm and cosy feel to them . nick_m
spent about two hours last night drinking a cuppa tea and reading the thread from start to finish. Im so bloody impressed, you and Hannah have done such an amazing job. Those pictures of your little spot next to the creek, look idyllic. Well done guys. Only thing i wondered was where and how do you work on all your cars? Or is that the next phase get hannah her truck license and then build a garage truck for you and your cars! Stu
House swap holiday? Man I love your truck so so much Can just imagine coming off a snowboard run in bad conditions, walking to carpark, watching everyone else look miserable undressing/packing for drive down, then you just go 'you know, I think a nice cuppa in front of the fire is what I need' and 5mins later thats what your doing. That and first man on the hill for powpow in the mornings. Bad. Ass.
yoeddynz
Hell yeah- I have thought many times about driving it up the mt Hutton access road and spending week or more up there boarding. Gets bloody windy up there though. Nick-m. Most car work now is done out in the sunshine with the pleasant company of many sandflies. Or at work or at mates places. But most of the work on my viva took place while working on building the housetruck at my parents place in Blenheim. I long for my own garage and we have both seriously been thinking about building a mobile workshop on a trailer.
nick_m
That sounds like a stellar idea to me!
yoeddynz
Yeah I have spent many a hour not sleeping thinking through designs. Biggest problem would be the weight but I figure a lightweight construction filled with a workbench and tools is gonna weigh no more than a tandem trailer carrying a big car. I would like to have slide outs. One on each sidegoing out a metre or easier would be one big one that slides out two meters with legs. Then it's a potential 4m by 4m workshop space. KKtrips
Would it be better to have a trailer that can carry workbench and tools along with a 2 car sized ez-up shelter and enough ply for a decent floor?
