I though about this problem again today.

I propose we drill an M8 tapping drill through the Centre of the bung. The screw in a cap screw and throw a bit of fizz onto where the head meets the bung. Then hit the capscrew with the duggadugga gun. Profit.

how you gunna get the swarf out from drilling that  hole and tapping it..?

just pull the sump off. be faster than fucking around moving welding gear  and power cords and shit.  if bashing an impact socket on wont work. you  ladies are spending more time talking about then just getting it sorted! ;)

It's genius, the flow of oil out of the sump will flush the swarf out. I would just use that bung as the new smaller sump plug

Once the bung is out I would have poked a telescopic magnet in the hole and removed the tiny bit of swarf.

And a left hand thread capscrew would be a bit of a unicorn.

I'd weld a bit of ten mm bar to.it in a heartbeat.  It's just my welder isn't very portable

Interestingly, @yetchh and me were chatting about a small hand-held battery welder at Nats...
